Such a cool story! Great program, and even better kids carrying on this legacy. Kudos!
More of this, please! These young people are inspiring and we could all use some inspiration and good news in this day and age. Glen is an excellent example of what an American values look like when they are lived and not just debated.
Congrats Jackson and Kolie! Well deserved.
Historic 👏
This is inspiring proud them to continue this legacy
(Inspired to write this piece after meeting my first Black Figher Pilot in 1997 after nearly 20 years in the Air Force)
“A Taste Of Soul”
by
Rodger L. Hilliard
I ascend to the skies with Spirits of Tuskegee…by the grace of God…and those who soared before me.
Men who broke down more than the barrier of sound…men of honor and dignity…men whose skin were various shades of brown.
American heroes, one and all….these were men of great courage and pride, who all answered the warriors call.
These were men who made their marks on battlefields and not instead of arenas and playing fields…they picked off enemies for men who thought they should be back home in cotton fields.
These were valiant men, men whose actions and heroism shall not be forgotten. Black pioneers of the throttle…they grabbed lightning and placed it in a bottle…these Airmen of Tuskegee, their Spirits soaring along side me…if not for them…I might not be.
So now as I prepare for takeoff and get the tower’s “A OKAY”…the sun is over my shoulder…there’s not a cloud in the sky.
I think of those Airmen…and
I begin to cry...those men who sacrificed their lives…the ones that paved the way…they opened up the doors for me…so I may soar today.
They earned those silver wings and their bars of gold…so set the records straight and get all their stories told.
The Airman from Tuskegee…they gave Aviation History…a little Taste Of Soul.

Is there any program like this in the Metro Detroit, MI area, Wayne County, for black youths? Possibly out of Willow Run Airport?
What is that trainer they are flying in?

I had no idea it took so much money to train as a pilot. No wonder it's such a white industry.
