I’m sick of the people claiming motorsports isn’t real sports because they’re just driving around.
Don’t compare yourself driving 80mph on a highway to driving 200mph for 500 miles. Nobody comes close to driving 500 miles going to and from work in a day.
I don’t think people understand what goes into being a professional driver. NASCAR requires patience, strategy and endurance. Majority of us would never be able to run an entire Daytona 500 or Coke 600 race, the inside of a car gets up to 120 Fahrenheit plus wearing a firs suit and helmet, this would just be on a good day. Indy and F1 drivers constantly deal with the same G-forces a fighter jet pilot endures if not more. Absolutely none of us (non-racers) would be able to do that without getting killed unless you’re a fighter pilot or astronaut.

NASCAR drivers have longer careers than most sports (besides Golf). You are also competitive for longer. In sports like baseball, basketball, hockey, and football by the time you are in your late 30s to early 40s, you are already retired or are close to been retired. Even in F1, by the time you are in your late 30's you are "old" by F1 standards. Guys are winning races and championships into their 40s and winning races into their early 50s (Harry Gant did that, I don't think anyone else can come close to that now).

NASCAR today has shifted a lot from what it used to be. It's no longer like Indycar and Formula 1 where the focus is having a fair competition. It's become more like Monster Jam where, while it is still a competition, the focus for the series is to entertain the fans. This is very evident when you look at how many cautions they throw every race. They use them like it's a blue shell in Mario Kart. Simply just to pull the leader back with everyone else and give other drivers multiple opportunities to take the lead of the race. Because that's entertaining.

Most of us only know NASCAR from movies like "Days of Thunder" or maybe this "Ricky Bobby" Movie (sorry, i dont know the correct tiltle). If you talk to them it's always "how boring, how stupid. They only drive around in circles". Yes, so does F1, so does MotoGP and other Motorsports, maybe except for Rally. In soccer 22 guys run across a field chasing a ball....and so on. There are many many sports where you could say "how stupid is that" or "how boring, all they do is.......". Several years ago, i gave NASCAR a chance, got into it, learned about drafting and all those things that make NASCAR interesting. I even had some favorite drivers like Dale Sr. , Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin and some others. It is an interesting sport and people should give it a chance.

I think the ignorance with NASCAR is due to people not realizing the skill required to drive like they do. With other sports (baseball for example), people realize that practically anyone can throw a baseball or even learn to hit one, but they won’t be able to throw nearly as fast and accurate or hit nearly as hard and consistently as the professionals.
But with NASCAR, everyone seems to think it’s just driving. And “hey, I can drive well, so they’re just driving faster and in circles. How hard could it be?”, not realizing how much more difficult it is to not only drive those stock cars, but to drive them so close to the edge of their limits that they’re within milliseconds of the fastest humanly possible time around a track.

I proudly admit that I love NASCAR and it’s gotten to the point where the left turn jokes are so annoying I don’t even talk to those kids anymore. Then they say “F1 is way harder” like bro, they have never watched an F1 or NASCAR race in their lives.

As a British Nascar fan, this hit home. The sheer amount of other motorsport fans (mainly from 1 certain series) have said the same thing is absurd. The worst part is they dont care if you actually show their point is wrong.
SVG winning last year while great came with so much hate that Nascar drivers are bad at right turns, but these same people havent seen how SVG is doing in Xfinity this year. He has had a 3rd place and a 6th place at Atlanta and Phoenix but hasn't been in the top 10 at any other races. And then at Indy last year and COTA this year in the Cup he got 10th and 20th. If anything his performance at Chicago showed how he is in mixed conditions ratger than Nascar drivers are bad at road/street races.

I have always been proud to show I was a fan. Even in school when kids would make fun of me I would just ask them have they ever bothered to even watch a race for more than a minute. Usually it is no and I explain that I don’t expect everyone to like a sport but I will never understand why people will go out of their way to make fun of NASCAR. Like I don’t see people purposely try to talk trash about tennis or track yet with NASCAR (sometimes all motorsports) they have to let you know it is stupid.
The only reason I can think of why that happens is because almost everyone drives a car so therefore they are like “well I can go 80mph and turn the car so it must not be hard”. They never bother to actually see how much work the driver is doing behind the wheel or how big of a difference 80 mph is to 190 mph. However I will say that direct hate for the sport has died off a bit and now most of it comes from F1 fans that have to make sure and tell you why F1 is the greatest motorsport ever and everything else is garbage 😂

I could not pay my friends to go to a race. It's sad when it's something you love deeply and the sports they enjoy have as much depth and lore if not less.

I’ve dealt with both ignorant people and toxic F1 fans who said things like “NASCAR isn’t a sport” “NASCAR drivers aren’t athletes” “You’re delusional for watching NASCAR” “What’s so fun about watching cars drive in circles for 4-5 hours on end?” It’s annoying to me because I just don’t understand why we can’t all just appreciate each sport instead of slandering the others. NASCAR fans love to slander F1 just as much as F1 fans slander NASCAR. The same goes for stick and ball sports, there is a lot more to it than simply turning left, kicking or shooting a ball into a net, and swinging a bat and hitting it out of the park, so why can’t people just shut up and let us enjoy it. I have friends who tease me about it, but I know they don’t mean it because they watch NASCAR, F1, and stick and ball sports. We all love to playfully roast each other, because we know that we don’t actually mean it. But when it comes to actual people who are ignorant, I try to teach them. If they show me that they don’t want to learn about it, I leave them be because they aren’t worth my time and energy. Everyone that knows me knows I am a proud NASCAR fan, and they couldn’t care less. In fact, they ask me to teach them more about the sport. That is my personal experience with those people, and a bit of what I deal with on a daily basis in my personal life, and on the internet.

NASCAR is a sport, and atheltic sport, people needs to do their research like you said, here are some perfect examples of NASCAR Drivers being Athletes...
Bobby Hamilton, won the 2001 Die Hard 500 at Talladega without a single Caution flag.
Jeff Gordon, won the 1999 Save Mart 350 while not feeling well, but still managed to win.
Ken Schreider, Ran the entire 1998 Daytona 500 with a fractured sternum and had to wear a flak jacket.
Dale Jr., Ran most of the 2002 NASCAR season while having a concussion.
    and the list goes on.

There is also a mental aspect to the sport to also take into account. They have to essentially sit in high speed traffic for three to four hours. I'm tired mentally from driving or two hours at 55 mph, with the comfort these guys don't have.
ETA: As far as the ignorance to the sport. I don't really care. The only time I had a problem with it was when a former employer said it wasn't a sport. I have to remind myself, however, that I didn't really like him for reasons other than that.

I’ve dedicated my life to the sport, every year from May-Oct I race once a week.
I can assure you all- nascar, oval racing, stock car racing, any kind of vehicle racing takes A LOT of skill. A lot of practice. And a lot of understanding how to make a car SAFELY go fast. Anybody can get in a corvette and do 150- it takes talent to do that every week for years of your life and be able to live to tell it.I’ve seen a 14 time track champion smack the wall and lose their life right in front of my eyes.the sport is insane.no argument needed.

McNabb was a competent player when he was with the Eagles, but for him to say that race car drivers are "not athletes" is just dumb and is an incredibly bad take.
I wonder how he'd feel if he knew that a lot of his classmates who never made it to the NFL are probably working on those race cars on Sunday, and if he never made it to the NFL, he might have gone there too.
Those guys can make or break a race team, and they're just as much athletes as the drivers themselves are- carrying the tires and gas cans, being quick with the jack and the air wrench, and having the speed and coordination to do all this in under 10 seconds? That's no easy feat.

EP29 - Can you do a video on this. Texas proved the "new car" is still a complete joke. In it's first year, the back end "slid out" for no reason about 100 times. (Kurt Bush ending?) Texas, a few days ago, was an absolute clown show with the "next-gen." Because Kyle Bush was used to driving a truck (something that sticks,) he lost the back end in the first few minutes of practice. Great drivers slid into the wall all day long on Sunday. Anyone can see Xfinity racing is 100 x better. (Look at the .002 result with Sieg.) Nascar Cup, via the horrible car.......... is a joke.

I drive a 4 cylinder at a quarter mile track with 33 degree banks, but our races are 25 laps long, but I've done a 200 lapper and I could barely support my neck. Elite clearly needs to rage, haha. But bruh, I felt this. Apparently NASCAR was the 2nd most popular sport in the country in the 1990s and 2000s, but I don't know where the hell all those folks were because I'm a lifer in ATLANTA of all places and outside of my family I only ever knew enough NASCAR fans to count on one hand at a time. Dealt with the same garbage of "only turning left" and "I drove to school, I'm an athlete now, right?" Everything in the book has been read to me. As I matured I got to the point where it didn't bother me, I just let them drivel and move on. Y'all the ones missing out, not me. Keep simping for the NFL and boring ass F1.
