this "did it affect play" garbage needs to go. if the offense picked a defender, and the defender was STILL able to get the D like at 1:03:21, why in the world should the advantage go to the offense? i really think "did it affect play" should mean "did it affect the defense"
I think that is the USAU rule. I do like the WFDF rule, because offensive receivers often stop automatically upon hearing pick, even after the disc has been thrown. If this rule was changed, then everyone would have to act like a pick is not a stoppage, which might lead to some dangerous contact. I'm not sure what the solution is, apart from being honest as players and upholding exemplary spirit, even when so much is at stake.
@@steffen1405 I didn't know there was a difference in pick rulings so thanks for the enlightenment. I would prefer that it be universal that all pick calls are immediate stoppages of play and that any continuation of play after the pick is called is nullified. This is mostly due to the fact that if you are on offense and not everyone hears the pick call at the same time, you can have dropped or missed passes due to the disruption of focus between players. And that leads to unfair turnovers. Whatever the solution can we just have consistency please? lol
The unclear or just overly difficult to learn rules and expectation on the players to notice their opponents cheating is something that holds Ultimate back IMO. If I could just go out on the field and try my hardest without having to deal with the likes of Garveys bullshit calls then I would enjoy the game more.
I guess he argued that because his defender called pick, he wasn't playing offence at 100% (e.g. running to the disc), assuming his defender was out of contention. Which begs the question: Did he really know it was *his* defender that called pick? And would he genuinely have played differently had he not heard the call? Only Garvey knows the truth... The other aspect, may be that the defender continued to play D despite calling pick, (thereby invalidating the call?) so offence can claim to be indirectly affected, but D wasn't (apparently, as he played on), thereby giving D a (psychological) advantage?
1:03:20 The cutter from the #2 spot benefitted from the pick (#1 cutter in the way of #2 defender), drops the disc or gets d'd regardless....then wants to honor the pick call for a redo.
1:49:34 If the defender hadn't called it out, I think Jagt would have carried on playing! (his body language suggested so as he picked up the disc off the floor!), despite knowing full well that he had dropped the disc. This win-at-all-cost mentality is painful to watch :(

Liam said 'room for interpretation' but meant 'abuse'. Yes, dishonest, win-at-all-cost call-making is perhaps the worst side of ultimate :(

1:03:03 How/ Why didn't Taylor call an offensive receiving foul?! He was taken out by Babbitt
1:03:20 - Thats just a straight up wrong call. Its not in the spirit of the game. Garvey just straight up dropped it - should have been a turnover
1:03:20 Can anyone explain why that pick call was valid from Harper Garvey????

Terrible pick calls. They are the bane of the sport. Please figure out a solution to them, all powerful rule makers I beg you.

As a PoNY fan, this statement is rough but true, his win-at-all cost attitude gets the better of him
Is this 2 American teams playing?
Yeah it is PoNY from New York area, and Ring of Fire from North Carolina.

Ring deserves to lose for that awful call on match point.
Pony with some POOR calls. Yikes.
Was rooting for Pony until...
ur not supposed to call grass down thats not fun
What a great freakin game! Tired of Ring just dominating everybody.
Don't you mean tired of PoNY dominating everybody? I'd rather any team other than PoNY win every day of the week.
@@robtaylor7212 PoNY's reign isn't even that long... They didn't win 2019 or 2021 major club titles...
