WKAQ-TV first signed on March 28, 1954, as the first television station in Puerto Rico. The station was founded by Ángel Ramos, owner of El Mundo (The World) and Puerto Rico's first licensed radio station, WKAQ. Ramos wanted to maintain a consistent branding inter-proprietorially using the "mundo" theme, and decided to brand WKAQ-TV as Telemundo ("Tele-World"). Ramos had tried to obtain a television station license as early as the mid-1940s, but due to a licensing freeze for all new American television stations imposed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Ramos had to wait until 1954. Initially, WKAQ-TV was affiliated with CBS until 1967. WKAQ began broadcasting in color in 1968.

it was, but wrong year... WSJU on Ch. 18 (owned by EW Scripps, back then owners of the San Juan Star newspaper) debuted in 1964 as an NBC affiliate (with shows on tape, as it was too costly then to broadcast via satellite) , it did last until 1972. WSJU (v.2), again on Ch. 18, but with another owner, became in July 29th.1984 The Island's NBC affiliate, making the first Island TV station broadcasting 24 hours / day. Then WPRV "The Bright Spot" (4:46) became first an ABC (on November 29, 1984) and then in '89 a Fox affiliate (they were the first to air The Simpsons in The Island). All of these were direct affiliates of Stateside stations before Comcast bought the Telemundo network, including WKAQ (Ch. 2) and in 2014 (22:23) Comcast brought a 24/7 simulcast of WNBC (4 New York) on Ch. 2-3, which has remained ever since. At about the same time Comcast brought "NBC4" to The Island, WORA (Ch. 5) got the ABC affiliation and began to broadcast it on Ch. 5-2, which moved to Ch. 5-1 after January 1st, 2021 when they didn't renew the affiliation contract with Comcast's WKAQ / Telemundo PR. NBC and ABC are the only US broadcast networks available full-time over-the-air on large parts of The Island with an antenna, not just Cable TV and / or Satellite service.
@@syxepop sadly, NBC can only be seen on the Eastern half of the island. That's because the station that once had Telemundo, WORA, already had an ABC station
@@gars129 - at the same time (late '21) WORA didn't renew affiliation contracts for Telemundo and Punto 2 they contracted WAPA's owners to lease space for those channels (shown as 2-11, 2-12, 2-21 and 2-22), but Comcast couldn't arrange for NBC's simulcasts (from WNBC 4 New York). So, yes, NBC can't be seen in the Western half of The Island, while ABC can be seen on WORA / WRFB in the whole of The Island. WHY??? Comcast need to lease space from somewhere else in Western PR to put the NBC simulcasts.
The logo for WAPA TV seen at :53 was created, designed and painted by my mother Gilda Trinidad de Dominguez who worked as the first art director of WAPA TV from 1954 until 1957 months before she gave birth to my sister. Love you Mom ❤❤❤❤

That time WAPA and WIPR on the 90s and 2000s using names like Televicentro, TV6, TUTV and PRTV really didn't work out, as most of their audience kept using the callsigns. Only reporters called it Televicentro.
I've almost forgot to mention it was SO CREATIVE of making that intro taking a '90s intro of Las Noticias (WLII's newscast brand at the time) and add many logos of MOST of the stations involved. GRACIAS!! Now a Part 2 with other ID's not found before would be wonderful...
Pretty good job, taking into consideration that there were station IDs from earlier years missing. Maybe if they were to be found, they could be used for a part two of this great compilation. Congratulations!
Man it wasn't until Univision PR became Tele11 that I realized how much money Univision invested onto WLII. The downgrade in logo ids, sets and commercials was inmediate, but WLII had been a bloated money sink for years. Univision's early years were pretty goodtelenovela. they really bet on increasingly stagnant Mexican telenovelas.
And Univisión LO$T a lot of money on the process. Reportedly Lieberman Media bought WLII and its' 2 repeaters for U$3 Mln about a couple of years ago. Less than 2 years before that Univisión bought WOLE (12-1, the Aguadilla-based repeater) for U$4.5 Mln. By that measure I figure the whole mini-network was worth like U$12-15 Mln. in the mid-late 2010's. Now Univisión only owns WSTE (7-1, broadcasting mostly infomercials) and are waiting for a buyer.
Univisión PR actually switched back to Tele11 as shown in the video (I'm referring to the middle section, focusing on the 1980's), but I get your point
