Ben Folds Five at their peak. Man, these guys were good.
Still best for me. 벤뽈즈파이브 포레버!
Fuck yes
Those harmonies would make The Beach Boys proud.
Ben folds five is too amazing of a band to be so under appreciated
One of the greatest bands in history.
And I am a Metalhead who loves real music too
. Ben Folds Five you
are amazing
I’ve literally spent 23 years trying to learn this on piano and today I finally got it. Love the song as much now as I did the first time I heard it
been trying the same on acoustic guitar... even though Ben says that instrument is "illegal" 😅
How did you learn it??
@@jenzeck8660 a bit of a mix of having the sheet music (since the album came out!), by ear and finally some brilliant tutorials on youtube. It was always the bridge bit I struggled with. Have a watch of this one if you're trying to learn it ua-cam.com/video/-03ClTL3yjw/v-deo.html
Thank you so much!!
@@jenzeck8660 you're welcome
Ah the classic trio: Ben, Darren, and Shaggy.
these songs are the soundtrack to my very first heartbreak. I haven't listened to them in 20 years because of it. they are amazing and timeless but the pain of that grief is freshened by them as if I was 23 only weeks ago not decades..
oh yeah, but you moved on and survived
"the shaking voice that tells him 'go' .. still thinks he might- he knows he won't"....chills...
Then the way Jesse punches the drums at the end of that verse is pure perfection and punctuates the meaning!
I’m so glad I got to see these guys in concert before they broke up. They played First Ave in Minneapolis with Train and Fleming & John. Jesse Ventura was our governor at the time, and Ben kept saying “Body slam!” and slamming his arm across the piano keys. It was so funny. Great memories.
The bass player and drummer in this band are highly underrated, excellent musicians themselves. These three-part harmonies are top notch.
Darren and Jesse! They're the best.
@Brian Paterson nah man that's just the drummers name, Darren Jesse. The bassists name is Robert Sledge. I get the confusion though.
To be fair, they were so good they were counted as two people each.
This tune on this PBS show on that night just made my jaw drop. It was honestly a "Beatles on Ed Sullivan" moment for me as a singer/songwriter.
I'm happy to see the Sessions at West 54th online. My introduction to Ben Folds was from a friend's DVD of this show many years ago and it still sounds great. The vocal arrangements really fill out the trio sound!
I wish I could have seen them play live
Seen them live at Sheffield Leadmill. Don't remember Jesse pounding the drums like that,. Astounding. All my focus was on Ben; he was virtually spitting in my face though. Great band.
I just discovered Ben Folds Five. I'm very glad.
This song is timeless. Everyone can relate to this.
I'm a huge Ben Folds fan and I'm a hard rock musician. He's just too good not to be liked. Genius!!
He cracks me up the way he always spreads out his legs and straddles the piano stool. It's like he's ready to hop up at any time and leave the piano.
This song is such a sleeper hit. It's so good.
These guys were incredible. When you compare the talent of the 90’s to nowadays it’s scary
Darren Jessee on FIRE!!
One of my absolute favorite songs by this group. "The shaking voice that tells him 'go' still thinks he might, he knows he won't." That line kills me every time. Suffering from lack of ambition and a seemingly oppressive society, that line always hits home.
Are you talking about american society? If so, it isn't oppressive. Go to the middle east if you think here is oppressive. America is a blessing
@@gratefram8130 ok... You really told me.
@@bikeweiss glad finally someone told you
@@gratefram8130 yep and you've completely changed my mind. America is perfect. How could I not see
@@bikeweiss well i tried responding twice saying "Well hopefully you'll wake up and see how lucky you are. I never said America is perfect. I said it was better than alot of countries." But youtube keeps deleting my comments. Let's see if it deletes this
The fact that they did this live is amazing. Unbelievable!
Who else but BFF could bring joy listening to a power-pop lament which is both original and an homage to the Beatles (yes, a contradiction)?
He has a very melodic voice.
i've watched this dvd so many times
Thank you for this. I love you.
Awesome song & performance!...
All with just Piano, Bass, Drums & great vocals!🎼
All these years and I never knew he had dimples! In fact I was todays year old when I saw him for the first time, but this whole album was so impactful in my teens. 🤩
I had this recorded on VHS. Watched it over and over again. Thanks Biden.
'she who must be oberyed' and I saw him live recently- just him and a piano- it was amazing, and the audience supplied harmonies- sometimes with a subtle cue from the stage, and a couple of times with a brief master class/rehearsal right before the song. The boss said there must've been a bunch of conservatory grads in the audience, bc the backing vocal were in time and in tune!
Insane harmonies
That one dislike still bothers me
There are three now D=
That’s because they missed the thumbs up
Wonderful musicians, love and respect from Santiago Chile.
Love Ben's polo shirt.
so much more depth and feeling with live version... touching.
so Nilsson thank you Ben Harry with a smile on everyone's face
Esta canción no me gustaba al principio, pero cuanto más la escuchaba, más me gustaba
this song made me fall in love with these five gentlemen
There's only 3
This live is like the best I swear
This song always gets to me and hits me in the feels!
What a perfect song.
One of my all time favorite songs
ben looks so fucking handsome in these oh my god
Great moment in music history!
Just great!
So much time so little to say ...
My fave BF5 song ❤
They have this song in Battlefield 5?
@@misteraxeman2680 i wish.
Ben looking for this. Also I didn't miss the war.
Been looking Folds Five
I believe the "war" he's speaking of is that of post adolescent fuckery.
@@adamhagen5704 I didn't miss ether one of them.
@@adamhagen5704 I know bro, but this was the only CD,that I had in Iraq. Also Weezer.
whoever disliked this...
c'mon bro
Hits home😐
Reminds me of Neil Sedake's Solitaire. Great song!
Thoroughly enjoyed this! Well done guys, super tight. Thinking of potentially covering this 😍... Perhaps in a different genre 🤔
june 1997 *
The harmonies are very Beatlesque
Sounds like an Andy Williams song.
Three dislikes? Are you fuckin’ kidding me?
wow, Evan Hansen is a pretty good musician
So many people are saying the phrase "sleeper" hits & band... Please I hope you're younger than 30? (Which is fine, there is only no excuse for never discovering good music😱)
Robert Sledge looks like Jack White and I never noticed it
Ben folds FIVE? I only see THREE? Which one is Pink? ...😜
..
[This comment was brought to you by obscure Pink Floyd Lyric / Ben Folds Literal Name bad joke enterprises. I hope you enjoyed your journey!].
i see why he fired those guys.
He didn’t fire anyone, he had kids and they wanted to do their own thing.
Yeah I know I didn't give you any frame of reference to understand that I was saying that facetiously with the intent of humor... but ... well.. disclaimer.
Hinarf Narfy Whoops, my bad, sorry man.
He was still a baby here!!
