Strongly recommended, whole NW concert Wacken 2013 again but this time looking together with your wife Sarah. Her comments on UA-cam make sense all the time. The same request for the other whole NW concerts with her, London Wembley Arena 2016, Buenos Aires 2018, Tampere in Finland 2015, and so on.
It is pretty damn impressive Emppu pushes out that finger fast solo at the end of the set list.
Yes Floor does exercises recommended by a physical therapist before and after a performance.

Yes, Tuomas writes wonderful lyrics...but this line goes back to Eleanor Roosevelt, early American preacher William Watkinson, and possibly Confucius.

Windmilling is actually less strenuous than the more typical headbanging, as there are no sudden jerks in the movement. Also, Floor always braces herself with her hands on knees or thighs to do it. To me, what is most impressive about her performance here is that when she is moving back over towards her mic stand from putting her arm around Tuomas, she is skipping, in heels which she has admitted bringing her height to 2 full metres, at the end of a 90-minute show. and it is still lighthearted and graceful! Then she goes and lays her head on Marco's shoulder. Emppu actually is very short compared to Floor, as he is 163cm so 8" shorter even if she were not in heels! A great place to see the difference in their heights is in "I Want My Tears Back" from this show where Floor faces him down after he playfully flicks the jack-plug of her in-ear monitors out of her wireless pack as he runs behind her. She shows great dexterity in plugging them back in behind her back before her next vocal passage, as that is more commonly a crew call. His solo in this is a rare chance to hear him playing fast, because his solos are always designed to add to and fit into the song, rather than distract from it, and this is a song where a fast solo makes musical sense.
The DVD "Showtime, Storytime" was actually the first item on sale with her and Troy listed as bandmembers rather than additional touring or (in Troy's case) recording musicians. It was a couple of months after this, on 9th October 2013 that they were both announced as permanent members. Apparently, the offer was made and agreed to in the hotel bar at Tampere after the Sauna Open Air festival back in June but was not made public "for contractual reasons" until later. That may have been connected to Floor's as-yet-unreleased 2nd album "Wildcard" with her own band, ReVamp, which came out between the end of the tour and her announcement as a permanent member of Nightwish. If she had a rider on her contract with the label preventing her from joining any other band until after its release, it would explain it. That is my best guess, for what it is worth (every penny you paid for it!).
It had been pretty obvious since the end of 2012 that Floor was the perfect fit with Nightwish, so the formal announcement was hardly a huge surprise.
Very nice post - The "family" feel of this band is unique and genuine. The "facedown" between Floor and Empuu is my favorite thing too - he lloks like a mouse caught by the cat.
And banging your head like a windmill is older than the Band Nightwish. Nothing to so with Floor and she's dutch.

This song ended the entire Wacken 2013 Open Air Festival - which Nightwish was headlining.
About Floor's windmilling - Floor is always a Olympic shape. She is a really great swimmer, has been doing bodybuilding earlier in her life, she is working out and training almost every day on tours. As she put it herself "my body is a well oiled machine, optimized to these performances" - otherwise she couldn't sing and go on like this for 2 hours (newer shows are 2 full hours), doing Ghost love Score and Greatest Show on Earth at the end.
Try to imagine remembering 2 setlists on 2 days, like she did on the Virtual Shows!! (I know she had placed small notes outside the camera angel's - but still!!)
And on stage, simultaneously remembering the pyros in each song!!
She is simply so unimaginable professional..

Couldn't agree more. Tuomas puts a lot of thoght in the lyrics. And Tom missing out after MULTIPLE requests, I've just given him up. He's missing out so much is ridicolous. But hey, his show, not mine.

Actually... the song was the last on a movie they made called imaginarium. IT was based on the album with the same name and its worth a peek. So it's this dark and suspenseful musical.

You've already made so many videos with Sarah and we all love you, but we all know by now that she needs the lyrics. Why don't you look for this video of this concert with this song a version with subtitles.
There are. So she can do both, watch video and see lyrics at the same time. Not all songs have subtitles that's clear, but many have. Not just Nightwish. I mean in general. If your wife sits next to you, then just look for appropriate video with suptitles. Enter directly into the search. 😁

It's funny that Sarah says the song reminds her of a rollercoaster ride. The song is part of the album "Imaginaerum", which is also the title of the film (Imaginaerum by Nightwish) that the band worked on back in 2012, and the album contains all the music used in this film.
"Last ride of the day" is actually used in the film during a kind of roller coaster ride, but I don't want to spoil you there :D So if you like Nightwish, you will have a very special experience with this complex and metaphor-pumped film, which consists of a mix of dark drama and fantasy. Just like the music Nightwish is known for. It's brilliant, you need to watch it!

When you started the Greatest Show on Earth video, Marco came in screaming immediately and startled you. This was the song that they were wrapping up.
If you see Floor doing the windmills, you see that she takes a few steps back from the microphone, puts her hands on her upper legs and bends forwards. She takes this posture to not hurt herself when she's doing those super fast windmills.

I too also wondered about the effects of her windmilling. Then I heard more than one vocal coach say that for singers, windmilling/headbanging actually relaxes the larynx. So the effects are positive, not negative. Who knew? Of course, if you’re out of shape you risk having your head fall off. 😄😄

Don't feel bad, we love you just as much solo! I think we like to see both of you react to Nightwish videos because we love to see you discover stuff together and the back and forth of what you think of a song. Once we saw you react together, we couldn't help but wonder the other person's take as well when we only see one of you reacting. Especially since there is such a cuteness between you that is fun to watch in your videos. Watching the two of you react together always makes me smile.

Man, you cut out the best part at the end which is their coming back on stage to thank their fans and take the band photo. They are one of the very few bands that actually take the time to come out and thank the fans. Most bands get the hell out the moment its over.

I don't think she was reacting to the DVD comment that way because she's like "wow, that's old tech". I think she just didn't realize because she hasn't watched the concert all the way through that they filmed all the performances specifically to release on DVD. ;) I agree, DVD doesn't sound that old. The first DVDs I saw out on the market were in the mid to late 90's but VHS was still prominent. I still own some VHS tapes (ones I couldn't find on DVD or blu-ray to replace) and I am around the same age as Sarah or possibly even younger. I guess to very young people 20 some years sounds like very long ago, but as I get older, decades don't seem as long a time as they used to.
good morning, Tom and Sarah!!!!! the DVD is "Showtime, Storytime", and, when you get up a few bucks, can be ordered thrugh Amazon.....my copy that I bought a few years back was warehoused in Marseilles, shipped into London, a slight US Customs delay in NYC, the shipped USPS through York, PA; then Greensboro, NC, to Charlotte NC, hence to Rock Hill, SC, where I live.....I have all of their concert DVD's.....4 with Floor, and 1 with Tarja.....I replay them often.....notice 2 things about her windmills; note that she has her knees bent, with hands on thighs, which changes the angle; plus, she has some large neck muscles, as well as deltoids and biceps.....her weight runs 175 to 180, at 6-1 and a half
Try backstage rock shop next time. I get all my nightwish vids and merch from them. Considering I live in Australia, they are pretty quick to deliver.
You can get it direct from the Nuclear Blast store for cheaper than Amazon, no customs, no overseas shipping.
I always buy any band merch from the store on or linked from their own website - it's the band I want to support, not some exec hassling workers to ship a zillion products a day.

I agree about the credits, they were more impactful to me after watching the entire concert.
I find reading lyrics on a first listen to distracting. I prefer to ‘feel’ the music before getting into the lyrics. Music is after all about how it makes you feel

Look at Floor's neck and at her physique in general. The woman is all there musculature-wise. No mere waif here, but a warrior Valkyrie! Seriously though, if you haven't checked out Floor's channel, you should. She speaks about her farm and riding horses. She has a video of her helping build a paddock for her horses. She's swinging an 8-10 pound mallet it looks like, driving posts into the ground. She's very fit, which allows her to windmill to her heart's (and the audience's) delight.
Floor's not just helping build that fencing, she is doing the bulk of it herself. I think it is a 5Kg sledge she is driving the posts with. The help was I think when the base was spread, not with any of the fencing.
And that is a lot of fencing to make a full-sized training arena for her dressage practice.
She also does all the stable work herself, and horses produce a lot of fertiliser. shovelling and barrowing that is enough to keep anyone fit.
Then there is all the gardening. . .
Floor does what’s commonly called a windmill. They just added Dutch bc she is.
You have reacted to 7 Days To The Wolves. Floor is exceptional at windmilling and the only one I have seen who can keep up with her is Tuomas...while playing!!! They are not allowed to windmill within 10 feet of each other because they have spawned small tornadoes. Have Sarah check it out. 7Days to the Wolves...toward the end, oh hell, the whole song is great!!

Always good to listen to some live Nightwish. That live stream of Wacken 2013 you did a little while back was a ton of fun. i could watch/listen to that concert over and over...it's sooooooo good! I saw some of that virtual concert they did and it was excellent, but just wasn't the same without the energy exchange the band has with the crowd. Can't wait to see new them perform in front of a crowd again.
