Not really. South asians are genetically not similar unlike east and south east asian. That's why people tend to not refer south asian as "asian" since they are phenotypically different(they look different) Geographically speaking, arabs are also asian and europeans too are also asian. In fact, arabs and europeans are geographically more asian since they sit on the same tectonic plates as EA/SEA meanwhile majority of south asia sits on the indian subcontinent. Culturally speaking, South Asia did influence EA/SEA through buddhism, but other than the religion itself, EA and SEA are vastly different from South Asia even in the variation of buddhism.

The citizen of each nation on average thinks highly of each other. It's different with south asia and east asia. For example, India vs Pakistan for south asia or Japan vs South Korea for east asia. While government-wise these countries seems to be fine, their citizen have a lot of hate for each other steming from past conflicts. South east asia are also blessed with fertile lands and other natural resources while also not being overpopulated. If I'm gonna bet which region are going to be developed first, I'm betting for south east asia. Though, India also got good prospects if we are not counting for the whole region.

Gdp per capita will matter if you have low gdp ppp which most western countries have which is why they found basic things like housing unaffordable there they also find groceries education etc expensive.
