This form of questioning before sales is big in many different retail business around the world I’m surprised more people haven’t recognized it when used against them. We used this a lot when I worked at GNC. We’d ask what are your health goals, what have you taken before, what part of your diet do you think you’re lacking in, what’s your caffeine tolerance, how many grams of protein do you take a day. Mostly it was all “smoke and mirrors” to give the illusion that the products are being tailored to fit you personally but, really it was more likely the higher ticketed items or items with a vendor incentive (mainly commission) to sell.
Just so you know if a person was already in the GNC store chances are they were already some what sold on buying something. It’s not that people didn’t recognize they were being sold, it’s that they were more open to being sold and hoping the minimum wage worker might help them make an informed decision
That’s different. It works at GNC or retail stores because they are coming to you. This is cold call to a random person who you have no idear what their needs are if they even need a pen. GNC they walk in they probably have some sort of health goal or health oriented or they would be shopping in a bodybuilding/supplement store. So it’s not smoke and mirrors and they customers are it up because they did have health goals and since they drove to your health store. Since the questions worked on so many people it probably seemed like it worked on everybody. Even if you sold them all the same product those are good questions rofl that someone walking ina. Health food store would want to hear you just happened to sell them all the same product lol
Being in sales I totally agree. I’ve never understood the sell the pen thing. Why does the customer want a pen? How would it help them? Have they had precious pens and what did they like about it. Qualify. People think sales people are magicians 😂
Coming up on 15 yrs outside sales experience, 'asking questions' sounds basic, but alludes the MAJORITY of sales people. If questions are asked skillfully, the customer essentially tells you what you need to say.
This is the issue with a lot of sales people they try to sell what you don't want or need. If a person say they are only browsing tell them your available for questions thank them and move on. Some customers egos are so strong they will come find you to see you sell them something or feel like they negotiated a bargain.
I worked for Verizon and AT&T and this is how they want you to sell phones and their other services. Only they don't care if you discover that the person doesn't need or want them they demand that you sell it to them anyway

well most people are sales illiterate. Im the son of a salesman so I quite know the few tricks, I still find myself buying garbage that I dont need.
It's all about the strong fundamentals!
Most people who start their own business or enter a sales force have no idea about the basics of selling. Went to business school and they never taught me the first thing about selling.
No

To be fair he ruined people's lives and remains a millionaire so he can take some shit at the very least
Sean Barker his Wiki page says that he went to jail (after all), even though he only served 36 months, and that out of the 200millions that he made, he had to pay back his victims 110. I guess he kept the remaining 90? Anyway he wrote the book and they made the movie so fuck it lol America for you

As a former sales manager from a larger agency, sales comes down to listening, not speaking... As mentioned, ask questions and shut up and listen.

Using your logic pen and also everything else in this world sells itself. If you don't promote your product you won't get any sales

Sale is made on the questions you ask and he is doing a great job of showing that. Movie scene would never work in real life, but it makes a better a scene.
As a sale optician, I resonate this this. I don’t sell glasses to you unless you need it. And trust me. You need it.
Unless you're selling some whacky products there's almost always a need for a product. You just have to aks the right questions to make that person realize what they are missing in life.
Can't imagine sitting in your car to work with the sun directly in your eyes everyday is something you like and a nice pair of good looking sunglasses can take loads of annoyance out of your daily life😎

Imback 2killu Astronaut pens were made to write upside-down because normal pens won't work in space.
Chris E FLores nice information mate I'll keep that in my mind
Charlsberg the reason astronauts doesn't use pencils in space because it the lead snaps it would be floating around and injure someone, also they need to sharpen it and when they do the sharpening will also be floating around
The story goes that the US spent millions on creating a pen that works in a vacuum, freezing temperatures etc. And the Russians used a pencil
The story is a lie, the US also used pencils and they designed it literally for the fun of it, to see if they could
This is false. The Americans and Soviets used pencils until a man at NASA developed a pen that could be used in zero-gravity, at which point both switched to pens because the graphite/lead dust, pieces, etc. would go into air filters which could cause a fire in a 100% oxygen sealed container.

He literally just told him that you don't try to sell a pen to someone that doesn't what one... That's no big secret
Well, some salesman completely forget this simple fact of life, ye it's no secret, although some people may make you think like it is one.
You can spend your time looking for clients, or trying to convince people to become clients. Seems like good advice.
@@robertcraft1030 I think what he wants to tell us is to know your target group. In this example it's everybody that needs a pen.
I don't need to convince someone to by a pen if don't even want one, BUT I need to convince everyone that what a pen to by MY pen.
These are basic principles that people need to be reminded of. Piers clearly did
It’s common sense; it’s not supposed to be a secret. If you want to sell something you either look for the demand or create the demand. If there’s no demand then there’s no sale. It’s a very simple and basic yet overlooked aspect of marketing and being a salesperson
It's nice to hear an answer like that since I've known guys who have successfully sold shit to people who don't need it.

+Sell me this pen
-do you want a pen?
+Not really

“It defies gravity” 😂

The skill of irresistible influence. ✨✨
