When you realise the cars herbie obliterated are priceless now. Ferrari 250 gt Berlinetta, ac cobras, bizzarani, corvette grand sports, e types. Herbie is a hero.
I think it’s all synths and stuff, it probably is designed to sound like an instrument but is played on a computer or something. Idk it was 1969 when they made the first theme so idk
It "still" amazes me on how a casual Volkswagen Beetle can outperform bonafide racing cars. A car that has a top speed of no more than 80 MPH wins races against cars with a top speed of 150 MPH.
I never understood why Jim retired Herbie to drive foreign cars like Mrs Steinmatz said, you would think he learned his lesson about decisions like that after he got that Lambo and Herbie smashed it to bits in the original
Herbie was blocked from entering the Indy 500 in the original movie montage because his intake was too small, perhaps the races that Mrs. Steinmetz mentioned had similar requirements that Herbie didn't meet and Jim needed a substitute for those races because he /had/ to and not because he /wanted/ to
@Ethan Schmid It was one of the many newspaper headlines from the race montage partway through the first movie that wasn't included in the stock footage for this clip ua-cam.com/video/ZPTVDO2v-_k/v-deo.html
I like to think that Mr. Tang Wu, who now owned Thorndyke's car dealership, had sent Jim to Europe to test a new series of racing cars that he intends to import.
I've been doing essays for past film franchises for school. When I was handed this series, I was a little upset. My memories of this series was that it was very forgettable and uninteresting. My reasons for this statement were for the weakest parts of the series. I hated how childish some of the scenes were, the TV remake from the 90s caused a lot of contradiction that made no sense, and the fourth movie was etched in my mind as the corniest things I've ever seen. But for the sake of the essay, I looked past these things, and rewatched everything from the series. And while watching, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I was enjoying the ride! So I realized this series does not get the love, respect, credit, and memory it deserves. The reasons why it's not remembered by most nowadays is because of the last two installments in the series, the 1997 remake/sequel of the original movie, and the Not-So-Great Lindsey Lohan movie Herbie Fully Loaded. The 90s remake/sequel The Love Bug, was a cheap way to reinvigorate interest in Herbie's story and while some of the movie was okay, it added in all this stuff that made the movie seem like it wanted to be a scientific drama rather than an action comedy that Herbie was meant for. It did okay at the box office, but was destroyed by Titanic and Jurassic Park. The 2005 movie, Herbie Fully Loaded, was a soft reboot/remake/sequel to the original series, and it failed at what it tried to do. Disney played it too safe using too many cameo actors, songs, lines, and even scenes that looked like they were from other films. Again, this movie caused contradiction that was confusing for long time fans. It did good at the box office, but wasn't enough to beat out Pixar and the Harry Potter series that was starting to go big at this time. So aside from the last two movies, the TV miniseries and the four mainline movies were great! My favorite is probably the original, but the others are still good. At first, I thought the soundtrack was a lucid, glitchy, experiment from the 60s, but I put that aside for this essay. Instead, the movies were selling strong messages in almost every scene. Something I liked about this series even before rewatching was the romance. Modern romance movies can't hold a candle to what this series does! The awkwardness isn't here because they were made at a time when everything was taken seriously and actors/actresses could leave aside their personal thoughts and let themselves run free, so the romance scenes seem real and can be relatable for some. I haven't even scratched the surface of this yet! I forgot how well done the action scenes were here! Especially in this movie! Since Herbie isn't locked to the race track here, he is involved in almost everything. Even when he's still locked in the race, the action from a good race and the obstacles that cheaters try to throw at Herbie make the movies even better. Especially in the third movie with the Diamond Heist and Herbie's rivals and his girlfriend. Another thing that makes this series great is the special effects. Keep in mind, the series started back in the late 60s, so some things could not be completed in once scene, but with the way the camera is working here, and the lengths Disney went to, all the effects look great and even Marvel could learn a thing or two from this! All in all, it's by no means the best series, but it is pretty high up there. Even though the last two movies caused some contradiction and awkwardness, it's hard to argue with the well done films from the past! I would even go as far out to say that this is probably the best 20th century live action Disney series ever! I hope I have showed you why this series is so great because I was once among those who dismissed this series as a flop and dead end. I have seen the light though, and I hope I have proven why you should give it another shot. Trust me, if you like movies like Fast and Furious, then you will not be disappointed with the Herbie The Love Bug series! In the end, I'm sad to see Herbie never receive attention in the near future even though he celebrated his 50th anniversary last year, but the older movies are still the shining gems they were when they wrapped.
1987AnimeBoy if you look closely at Herbie at the end of the footage, you can feel how sad he is up to the point where he cried. You may not actually see the tear, but the music accompanying it makes you feel like he’s crying at that moment
If you watch the kinda bad West German Superbug films, he went on to have adventures in German East Africa and in Austria, among other places I don't know of because I don't speak German. Still, there's lot's a Grands Prix and other races that would be fun to see Herbie in. As ridiculous as the original American movies might be, they're up to 11/10. Check out this trailer for the first German movie: ua-cam.com/video/W-_Va9GzrDU/v-deo.html
Well, Herbie appeared as a background cameo during Fillmore's flashback in the 2009 Cars Radiator Springs comic by Boom Studios. Link to it worldofcarsdrivein.fandom.com/wiki/Herbie
I really just like the visual of the car, and I think this movie very intentionally emphasized that. From the fleet of different VWs to the nightmare sequence, and then the newspaper "End of the Road" drawing at the end of this scene. I really like the drawing, I realize these things don't just magically happen and wondered about it. The signature at bottom may say Dolan, I'm not sure. But I'd love to get the name and story to how it came about. Obviously made for the movie, but there's always a backstory to how things get created.

I enjoyed all the movies, although the first three were the best. "Herbie Goes Bananas" was ok, although the kid was annoying with the "Ocho" thing through the whole film. The '97 tv movie was nice because we saw Jim Douglas, but the Hate Bug stuff was stupid. The one with Lindsay Lohan wasn't as bad as critics said.

Tons of footage from The Love Bug (1969)
That herbie theme music is fantastic
Great flashback scenes from the original Herbie movie.
I bet he miss those racing days.
This was always my favorite part in Herbie rides again, wish I knew what musical instruments they use to play Herbie's theme song.
I think it’s all synths and stuff, it probably is designed to sound like an instrument but is played on a computer or something. Idk it was 1969 when they made the first theme so idk
From what I can hear it sounds like a groove guitar riffs and a piccolo that is trilled at times and lastly a drum set.
@knightrider4545 I agree. The flute/ piccolo thing is so distinct. I love it.
Grazie papà, mamma e Floriana di avermi registrato nel 1988 questo bellissimo film

Because this is not a common VW Beetle. It's Herbie
they also put a Porsche engine in the VW beetle for the racing scenes. Common for people to do with VW beetles
It's Herbie we're talking about here bud..

Herbie: (sleepily) Good night, Nicole. (yawns and falls asleep, snoring peacefully)

I wonder what Herbie snoring would sound like
I never understood why Jim retired Herbie to drive foreign cars like Mrs Steinmatz said, you would think he learned his lesson about decisions like that after he got that Lambo and Herbie smashed it to bits in the original
Did they want to hire him for the sequel? Maybe he rejected it or was working on other movies they had to work around it.

I think Jim wanted to bring Herbie along but didn't have enough money to have him shipped to Europe until Herbie goes to monte Carlo.
I like to think that Mr. Tang Wu, who now owned Thorndyke's car dealership, had sent Jim to Europe to test a new series of racing cars that he intends to import.
