Hydrochloric acid is easy to get at the hardware store - it's called Muriatic Acid for etching concrete - and it works so much faster than vinegar at cleaning equipment. Citric Acid would also work a lot faster - there's really no reason to subject your equipment to vinegar anymore.

Citric acid works GREAT for cleaning equipment! I switched early this year and now I won’t use anything else. 👍🏻

How about heavily stained glass? I got some really bad cloudy areas on this tank I got a while ago and I’ve tried razors, barkeepers friend, 1000 grit sandpaper, and even the vinegar and it’s still cloudy. I found that if I used a razor at a extreme angle like 75° I can scrape the glass and the cloudiness does come off but it’s a lot of work. One little area took my like an hour. Would muriatic acid be good for this situation?

You could try it. Sometimes glass can be etched though, so hopefully you're not to that point.

Great video and info!! I have always used vinegar to clean my equipment, but I recently bought a used nano tank that I want to clean up, and the seller threw in some citric acid for me to try out. Can't wait to see how it works out. To clean hard deposits on the side of aquarium glass, would you recommend soaking a rag and letting it sit as opposed to filling whole tank with a solution? Thanks again for great video!!

Yea, I’ve used the soaked rag trick. It should work, just be careful if you use HCL.

Fantastic video (as always)... I highly recommend switching to citric acid. It makes light work of gear and those hard to reach spots. One thing - it works better in hot water then cold water ;)

I need to buy some when my HCl is used up. Interesting that it works better in hot water. That's a good tip!

Gloves would be fine, and if you're planning on fragging them or trying to remove them from their rock maybe something to cover your eyes on case there's any mist.
