    Curious about modular synthesis, electronic music, and sound design, but unsure how to get started? I have something for you! Join my free "intro to synthesis" mini course here: www.soundandsynthesis.com/firstpatch2022
    PS: You don't need any special gear to do this-just a computer with VCV Rack (which is free to download).

    I made it to patch number 2 and I lost my mind. The first think I thought when looked at the module was to modulate the bands could be cool. You did it amazingly. This is right up my street.

    Oh...as soon as you showed the close-up of the module, with those six linear pots, I was transported back to my teens, doing no-input stuff using just a boom box that had RCA ins AND RCA jacks for the detachable speakers. Putting the tape into record mode with the five band EQ pots in the minimal position, then slowly increasing them until the system started farting or sputting (depending on the freq), and then going taking the sliders up until the system would start squealing around the fixed freq of the EQ band.
    Gawd, I hadn't thought of that in years.
    Also: that's a lovely module, that F3DB.

    This is a gnarly module. Seems like it needs a lot of finesse to get musical results but once you hit those islands of musicality, the textures and tones are exceptionally good

    this has to be one of the most 'the point of modular' video's ive seen. ty heaps.

    My gosh?!! I’m thinking that my Spectral Multiband Resonator needs some grimy noises to be piped through it, so that it too might produce some louder drones that sound a little more like this one! I must remind myself that it’s likely never the case that I need a new module, I just need a more cohabitable mindset?! THANKS FOR SHARING!!

    Absolutely brilliant. I recently had a 70s Roland System 700 on loan that has a fixed filter bank that I was fiddling with, so I was intrigued by this.
    The VC F3DB has a lot more going on than the old 700. The clipping patches in particular that you created were amazing.
    Also love the envelope follower stuff. Dynamic envelopes like that are seemingly so underused and it only takes 30 seconds of watching you vocally manipulate the synth to see the power of it. I always wonder why they're not more common.
    Anyway, great presentation. Thanks!

    • @sarahbellereid
      @sarahbellereid  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! The clipping stuff on this module is definitely super fun. And yes...I personally am going to explore the envelope follower side of this a lot more...curious to see how it responds to voice vs other instruments like trumpet as well!

    Wait...did my comment get deleted because I posted a link to a product that was not the one in the video? Or did the comment just not post for some reason? I am just a fan, not someone trying to sell my or another company's modules. Just enthusiastic about FFBs, which I discovered a few months ago.
    Regardless, I enjoyed the two videos of yours that I have seen, and you have inspired me to try to do some no input mixing on my Eurorack setup. Peace.

      @@sarahbellereid Yeah, I had just posted links to a few modules that you might have been interested in, the MMI Modular Two Nine Five (a clone of the Buchla of the same name that you reference in the video), and the Scandeck by the same company, which gets the pair in the same territory as the 296. Check them out if you are so inclined. Did not post the links this time.

    Sorry for the stupid question but..... how are you inputing your microphone to your rack? How are you getting it to modular level? Is it dynamic?

    • @sarahbellereid
      @sarahbellereid  2 роки тому

      Not a stupid question at all! My setup for this video was actually a bit weird in that regard -- I was running my mic (SM58) into a Mackie mixer, then from there into the pre-amp on the Strega, then out from the Strega and into the F3DB, because the pre-amp on the Mackie doesn't have enough gain to get the mic up to modular level. If the eurorack case I was using for this video had been a little bit bigger I would've used a Doepfer A119, which is what I normally use for connecting dynamic mics to my modular system.

      I got instantly intrigued when looking at your set-up on how were things entering the modular.
      Much clarified now, thanks!
