Methinks by progressing the ball slowly City and Arsenal force or even allow opponents to park the bus. By playing Saka deeper you force opponents to play a high line which gives Jesus, Martinelli and Havertz space to run into. Liverpool, man utd, chelsea and tottenham have it easy because they always have space in behind to run into.
Need to use Jorginho's line breaking passes more. I reckon when Partey comes back Arsenal will be deadly. Rice is not made to make those passes, but Thomas is.

Arsenal need a striker who has to be outside of England..Mikel just needs to adjust his style of play and use players like he did against Palace..I've said many times Mikel doesn't let Jesus back down like a midfielder or defender.. Jesus must always fight up front.. Opponents are happy to see Jesus running away from their goal.,this is one of Mikel's bad things.
Here it fucking comes, Arsenal are title challengers again and will win the league! If they lose the next game, then they'll moan. Fucks sake, bipolar fanbase.
Great observation; Think Arteta has switched Martinelli and Saka's role. The overload to isolate was usually done to create space for Martinelli while getting Saka in shooting positions but now the reverse is the case.
what Arteta has been saying about sharing goals will pay off massively in the long term. Last yr at the end of the season Arsenal were unproductive when Saka or Odegaard had a bad game, now there's much more attacking versatility because everyone is a creative weapon, everyone is a scoring weapon. Also puts less pressure on Eddie, Reiss, Fabio and Emile who can impact games without being expected to be super subs, giving Arsenal even more weapons
Great analysis, still I wouldn’t use one game as a datapoint as to if he fixed the team or not. Specially against a team that comes from a 1-4-5 record in their last 10. But did he tweeked a few things? Yes. Fixed? We’ll see
Watching that game from the first 5 minutes I noticed something was different. You are 100% right that it was Crystal Palace, however they have come back from their break with a tweak to their system. Saka deep was the most obvious, he will get kicked less and when teams start to set up that he will be deeper, we can go back to 2023 set up if need be. Brilliant vid, keep em coming!
Would this make him a less useful player in FPL terms now? I might have to let him go as I doubt arteta will change from making Saka play the sacrificial role from now on considering how well they played
I don't know much about FPL, but in the first half of the season he was scoring a lot less than last season, so I'm guessing that this change will actually result in him getting more goals, because he'll be in more space.
But instead of only going down the wing, now Jesus was breaking out right and Saka would come down the middle. So it could also lead to more production. He's too good to drop, so if anything just sit him.
Good defensive numbers (Arsenal are much better at resisting transitions), he's also tall so can bring high balls down for those around. Last season Arsenal's attack was all shorties. Havertz is also great at making space for his teammates.
That’s the reality. It’s like every one became blind because of the end score. We played crap and were happy to score thanks to Jover’s corner tactics and after Palace couldn’t be so deep and playing low block wich lead to Leo and Marti x2 goals and not because he became great again or whatever bs
I’m not saying we should actually do it, but imagine if we did move Saka back to left back… Martinelli cutting in with him on the overlap…. Teams would shit themselves lol
This is exactly the thing I've seen United do with Antony about a billion times this season. Ball goes from Onana to Wan-Bissaka, really deep and wide, then ball goes down the line to Antony, and just as he takes a touch to control it, the full back just smashes into the back of him. Either gives away a foul with no card and you've got a really tricky to manufacture anything halfway line set piece, or it's no foul and the opposition breaks forward and gets a half decent chance from all the space available. Either way, once the opposition knows thats the pattern of play, unless the referee gives out a card, you aren't going to keep doing it.
The difference is arsenal still balances it with central progression and ball carriers. The bald man in Manchester is adamant on wide progression into wall passes
been saying this all friggin season - same with martinelli they lose so much space and playing potential by forcing them out wide and where then their only option is to cut in or take to the line which the defenders are looking for so it just ends up going back and into midfield then switching and that's it... having more versatility is a good thing makes us less predictable and harder for opponents to defend against
I’m not saying we should actually do it, but imagine if we did move Saka back to left back… Martinelli cutting in with him on the overlap…. Teams would shit themselves lol

For real. I think he can be a great target man. Kieffer Moore also played CB for exemple. We could have take him for peanuts this winter as our back up ST for low blocks but hey trust the process and be ready for phase 239394
they also need to work on getting Odegarrd into more effective positions also. His contribution in creating has been far less also due to the lack of space and awareness of his ability from other teams. Only time you see him come to life is when we counter or a defender makes a mistake and he laches onto it.
I think you have it way off. Declan Rice isn’t facing high criticism at all. He’s been one of the best players in the prem this season. Partey was irreplaceable last year and he comes in at 6 and replaces him perfect. Rice has one of the best progression stats in Europe. Sure his passing isn’t elite but his tackling and dribbling is. He shouldn’t be expected to do everything. What about Kai Havertz ? What exactly is he doing? He doesn’t get on the ball enough and when he does, recycles possession. I don’t think build up play from the back has been an issue at all this season. Our biggest issues are at LB because zinchenko has been exposed defensively with Timber and Tomiyasu out. LCM and Striker have been the key issues. Lazy analysis by four four two. Can’t expect Rice to do a 3 man job 😂
This is nothing new. Palace and Fulham defended in completely opposite ways (palace pressing man to man as opposed to Fulham in a mid block). It was completely natural for saka to come short against palace where there was space to play that pass in behind the man which would've been impossible against Fulham because there was no space in behind even if he did come short. This is like comparing apples with oranges. And it's really not true that using a tactic that we've seen used since the beginning of last year against opposition presses against a very struggling palace side AT home suddenly 'fixes' Arsenal forever. That is way too simplistic for reality.
I cannot watch anymore of this. Total nonsense. Arsenal need a player like Izak, Toney or osimen. That’s the solution. If they don’t get a top scorer, they are going nowhere.

I think the biggest issue is still trying to break low blocks. Breaking through presses and progressing to the final third isn't an issue I associate with Arsenal. That said, it is a nice improvement because it results in the progression being faster and giving the opponent less time to recover their shape.
Martinelli on the left. ESR on the right cuting inside. Saka at LB overlapping to give Marti space and bring danger. Zinchenko as 8 with Rice as double pivot. Problems solved.

The other team mates stepping up is a good thing. Teams are allowed to double team Saka because we do not punish double teaming Saka.
