    I had a somewhat-severe stroke at age 34--no warning, no reason, utter mystery. All the docs could say was I should have died, but didn't. So how do you make peace with living, after being told you should be dead? Every day is a bonus, every minute is a gift. I've been allowed to stay up past my bedtime, in a way. Thanks for this episode. It feels like coming home.

      valhala56 I liked the scenery that this interview took place in. Very calming. Now as far as excellance or people having to be told how to process this information. I find that kind of odd. Do Cancer patients do the same thing with the Dr that informs them of their terminal illness? Well Dr what do I do now? Well you could start scratching off your bucket list, or Go to Vegas and play high stakes Poker for the thrill or climb Everest before it is devoid of snow. Or you could open up a can a whup ass on Climate change deniers or well what I am going to do myself is in the hedonism=Nihilism catory of Sex, DRUGS, Rock and Roll.go to whole foods for every meal. Drink lotsa of Starbucks flirt with the hot baristas, go to strip clubs and get drunk, Ride my electric bicycle with abandon. Just have fun till the chickens come home to roost and like in the movie "Melancholia" the Kiefer Sutlerand character down a bottle of sleeping pills and go to sleep forever.

      Thank you for this video! We must come together to rapidly reduce carbon emissions, live more sustainable lifestyles and revise the systems that brought us to this place. It is a time for revitalizing change, and urgent action. We can do this, but we must act now! "Somewhere between 5°C and 7°C of temperature increase, it starts to become likely that hot places will experience conditions that are fatal even for people lying down in the shade.
      On a high emissions pathway where the most likely temperature increase is estimated to be 5°C by 2100, anything from 3°C to 7°C may be possible. However, while on this pathway the chances of staying below 3°C will become vanishingly small over time, the chances of exceeding 7°C will increase, and this extreme outcome could become more likely than not within the following century..."
      One of these 'hot places' is the southwest US.

      Even were you right, the world depauperate of our fellow species would be dreadful. You are like most, apparently, anthropogenically centred.
      I am Australian, for what it's worth, and I found out today that some of our once hugely common bird species are disappearing or at least diminishing remarkably in numbers. Our iconic Laughing Kookaburra, our warbling Piping Shrikes and others. The thought of many of the iconic species of the world disappearing is crushing, as is of course all the species of plants and animals, organisms prokaryotic and eukaryotic which are going and are gone.

      resistance and conservation a hopeless battle. This is true. Unless a
      way is found to stabilize the nation's (world's) population, the parks can not be
      saved. Or anything else worth a damn. Wilderness preservation, like a
      hundred other good causes, will be forgotten under the overwhelming
      pressure of a struggle for mere survival and sanity in a completely
      urbanized, completely industrialized, ever more crowded environment.

    If I may offer some philosophical reflections on this existentially important conversation. First, regarding Excellence. The English word comes through the Greek Arete, which is practical: Justice, Courage, Temperance, Fortitude. Then, with Christendom in 324 AD, the virtues of Faith Hope and Love. Thus, the Pursuit of Excellence entails seven key western virtues and , well, ethical norms. As for Death and Dying, see Elizabeth Kubler-Ross and Robert Jay Lifton. The latter, especially, given the Denial of Climate Change and the Death of Species. "Psychic Numbing" worse than Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We still have options.... Right Thought. Right Action. Love

      Jackie Fullerton John Masters is right. The hypothesis that CO2 plus posited positive feedbacks are presently driving climate has been falsified by the failure of the models. You can cling to the idea that mysterious but temporary forces are preventing inevitable warming, but the broader hypothesis that climate scientists understand climate well enough to predict future climate has definitely been falsified.
      skepticalscience.com is perhaps the flagship propaganda site for AGW. Read any of the articles there and you will see misinformation, misinterpretation, misdirection, cherry picking, and rhetorical and statistical flourishes designed to simply reassure lay believers. It is run by a psychologist, not a climate scientist.

    The most significant comments here where those regarding the self-important notion that all of creation is for the benefit of the human species. We humans are largely believed to be "created in the image of God" or in other words human embodiment is some how equal to our higher essence? It is time for all of mankind to accept that human embodiment is not the be all and end all of existence. We are spiritual beings having a human experience. Did you know there are at least a dozen or more days in the US when both the coldest and hottest records in the 24 hour period were broken for the same location? So, were these days at these locations and time hotter or colder than normal? You get the picture blanket head!

    It is like owning a fine clock for years and finally one day, you decide to open the cover for the first time, peer inside the lovely, precision mechanism, finally see how it really works.
    That is excellence~~~>SELF KNOWING.
    Knowing how to make this clock is ultimate excellence.
    Knowledge, not fun or even joy, is the true goal of life and the mechanism of spirit transition to the "other" dimensions ultimately.
    The only difference is now, the time dimension is changing, slowing down.
    Therefore our mass, biomass must speed up and be satisfied with what we can see, learn and know at last, inside our clock, our time keeper pendulum~~~~>OUR BREATHING..

      +SBS “Aspergican” man I like this philosophy as you've presented. Logical with an element of whimsy. I'm wondering, is this philosophy tied to a religion, movement, person, group, exc... or is it derived from your own logic? Genuinely curious.

    • @sbsman4998
      @sbsman4998 9 років тому

      Thanks David for the nice comment, Are you familiar with poetic insight? It is where a very comlicated idea arrives almost intact and instant then creates an internal energy that only writing it out can relieve. Having someone like yourself read it completes this circuit in time and space. This is much different than the type of thinking pushed in our school systems, of testing and set information, that needs to be repeated. So the real question to be explored is exactly where does this intact information come from?? I have my thoughts on this mystery but awaiting a true answer to this question myself someday. Maybe your inquiry might create an archetype, or a coalescing force, to bring forth another poem or "philosophy" as you call it~~~>a drawing forth from many sources deep inside the psyche and outer world to create that which did not exist before. A focus of the internal/external reflections into solid reality. PEACE

    • @David-uc4hc
      @David-uc4hc 9 років тому

      SBS man Quite welcome. And actually yeah, I experience that 'poetic insight' on a regular basis. I play piano and compose music. While my ability to play other's work requires strenuous practice, my ability to compose comes in bursts, usually through a moment of clarity and inspiration. Often times it's not until later that I realize how much complexity there actually is in the piece. Not sure how this bit ties in with what you believe, but the refinement of those compositions does take analytical analysis. My compositions, as instantaneous as their initial creation is, also become more complex the more I've rigorously studied and intuitively understand music theory. I'm pretty sure, if I understood you right, that both elements (inspiration and analysis/logic) match what you described.

    • @sbsman4998
      @sbsman4998 9 років тому

      Exactly yes David, I am sure this is a common factor in all creative work. Mozart claimed that whole compositions arrived intact, nearly and this “nearly” is the hard gap. The sub-conscious is home to the moving mirrors and the deeper area is the eternal flame and source of all reflected light. You are right David, the reasoning is what focuses the mirrors/light into the final form we call consciousness/reality, be it poetry or music compositions or gossip. Being an ASD teen, I loved weekly outings to the library, alone of course, usually picking out stacks of books at random or what I thought then was random. Imagine all those words, in all those books on all those shelves yet I was able to focus my “mirrors” to align with what my reasoning/logical mind was compelled to seek, at that moment in time. The closest thing I have found to explain this process is the word INTENT. Looking back at my late teen and early twenty years, I remember an internal multi-language incessant chatter seemingly competing for my intent and only with focus, grueling focus, were the lights put to silence.

    Methane is short lived. So it would be a series of short lived 12 year pulse per major release. CO2 has little effect on the climate, i.e. via past levels of 1000x ppm did not push us into a runaway climate and the rise in CO2 follows temperature increases. This video exudes biased misinformed science. Contradictory evidence revealing the true natural temperature cycles which are now occurring has been suppressed and ignored. The present warming is a very natural event. So how much heat is stored by roughly 380 ppm CO2:
    Heat Stored by 381 ppmv (0.00069 Kg) of CO2:
    q = m (Cp) (ΔT) (Potter & Somerton. 1993. Page 58) (For a no equilibrium process with Cp rel. constant)
    Introducing magnitudes:
    q = 0.00069 Kg (871 J/Kg*K) (0.01 K) = 0.0060099 J; rounding the cipher, 0.00601 J.
    0.00601 J, which will cause a change of temperature of:
    ΔT = q /m (Cp)
    ΔT = 0.00601 J /0.00069 Kg [871 J/Kg*K] = 0.00601 J / 0.60099 J*K = 0.01 K
    A 0.01K increase is meaningless! Basically, CO2 does not drive climate change. Rather, ocean temperatures drives CO2. The CO2 seen today is due more to the warmer climate that occurred several hundred years ago than to recent anthropogenic releases.

      +Maritza Diaz I've heard that too, and I'm pretty sure it was a credible source (see how good at debating I am?) as the sun does seem to go in cycles of getting brighter and dimmer, which does mildly effect Earth's climate. I really wish I remembered where I read or heard this... but i also remember it saying that the cooling won't impact the global climate, as the effects of greenhouse gasses are significantly greater.
      Also, isn't the inside of the earth very slowly cooling? Isn't that what drives plate techtonics?
      Totally willing to be wrong here, as I don't have sources on hand, and the inner cooling was what i was taught years ago, and science has revealed SO much more since then. I'm just wondering if you can explain 'why' the sun dimming is a myth, and how we know the inside of the earth is in fact heating up?

      I'm closely watching the effects of the drought here in the western US -- fires from Alaska to California, and all across Canada, arctic ice perhaps melting entirely this season. There you will see so little warming That the margin of error might be greater. yes this year has been warmer than 1998 hot El Nino year,but only just.it has delayed the onset of cooling that has started but that will end by late 2016 when the cooling will return with a vengence .So there you have it and as for calling heating horrible,from a human perspective that is so wrong.when it was much warmer than now The medaevil warm period. Europe had a golden era where crops were plentiful the population built magnificent cathedrals ,instead of going to war,the well fed population had less disease a result of the good crp and farming weather so clearly .Hotter is better Not horrible as you so ignorantly claim

    Thanks for your fine work. The only thing that would have a possibility of saving us would be for the world to work together quickly through an empowered United Nations - a mighty Marshall Plan. I know you're saying it's too late for even that, though.

    This hypothesis makes me wish I were some type of theist. Maybe the space aliens will take pity and fix our mess for us. Of course, in an infinite collection of universes this will all happen again given infinite time.

      +Dee Smith I'm sorry to see you go, and to unsubscribe from the whole channel based on one program you don't agree with. You've provided wonderful commentary in "The Vegetarian Myth."
      Of course, you can decide what you choose to watch and don't. Unfortunately, the increasing news from Arctic ice melt, among others, seems to corroborate what McPherson is saying. Not everyone agrees with his opinion on how quickly, or whether, we will reach a tipping point of runaway climate change. ~Janaia

    MrWeirdo66 Well be relieved because it is true.The solar grand minimums happen on a 206 year cycle this one now setting in is expected to be severe.You are extreemly wrong about heat being a greater killer than cold.Do some historical research and you will see just how correct i am .Examples.Black death europe caused by starvation during the cold erratic climate of a solar grand minimum.Napoleon lost half a million troops in a Russian solar minimum winter.Chinese dynastys have collapsed with the onset of solar grand minimums .So there is some research for you using recorded history Clearly your science mind does not work
