This car is a big step up from your already stratospheric design standards at Icon. Very well done indeed, sir. It might be the highlight of your design career (so far). I love it!
It’s my 70th bday, the perfect gift, I’d say. No doubt a fantastic build. The entertainment value will surely suffice. Thx Jonathan & crew at ICON……..The episode proved ICON legendary in style and integrity
That goofy old farmer made some excellent points. I admired that you engaged with him at the car show. Now, to hear you badmouth him after the fact… makes you look weak

Jonathan. I can appreciate the design of the engine bay. When I first saw the engine bay I assumed it was part of the cooling or battery system designed to look like a standard motor. The fact that you guys took the time to craft it to match the original is a testament to your attention to detail. This is great. This was my dad’s high school car (class of 57). The reason he did t play football or baseball his junior and senior year ( working instead for parts and gas money). No pictures exist….only stories and the old Motors repair manual with greasy fingerprints on the intake manifold and transmission pages. My older brother was not interested in cars, so when I came of age and showed interest, my Dad jumped right in with me and we fixed up my 71 mustang. Some of my best memories.
Jonathan, love your work and the amount of time and effort that goes into each and every build. All those little details that you make and although not everyone will see them you still go that extra mile. Keep up the fantastic work that you and your team do each and every day.
You’ve got a realistic outlook on EVs and because of that see them differently to the big players. Of course the outcomes are a progression of the different approach to design & creation. Loved that you included old mate interjecting during your interview. The way you have edited this episode frames a lot of view points in almost perfect arrangement. A fantastic discussion of ideas that I’m thankful to have watched and listened to.
If anyone can do this type of retrofit it is you. The future is electric and your creations will be around for much longer as EV's. Looking forward to more of your genius creations
I love the fact that someone as dedicated to craft as Jonathan is "the buck stops here" guy at his company! So many executives/owners cop out when it comes to the old dollars vs results competition. It is so easy to stop at "good enough". I've loved the ICON concept and philosophy from the get-go, and every vehicle I've seen so far is a work of art... which is so rare nowadays! Thank you for what you do, and what you stand for...
Knocked it outta the park again! It would have been cool to keep analog gauges but certainly understand complications with that. Thanks so much Jonathan for taking the time to take us through this amazing one off with a timeless and iconic Mercury design. It looks good from any angle, LOVE the lines inside and out of those cars.
Canada here: Most of us don't burn coal. In fact, it's being phased out. We're not ''short on carbon'', but he's short a few marbles for sure. Nice Merc, Johnathan.
I have loved the 1949 Mercury since I first built AMT model. This car is a great leap forward for Icon, and I look forward to seeing Jonathan's next electric car.
I imagine there are a lot of terrific things about being rich. Being able to afford to fund an ICON would be pretty high on my to do list. I really appreciate the owner and ICON sharing it with us so we can enjoy the cool work that’s been done.
I watch your cars on anything i can fiind online….. FOR a few years until now And just wanted to say that YOU are one of my heroes . Respect and good vibes all day everyday
Truly an exceptional build! Your attention to design, engineering, and quality really make ICON what it is. You take advantage of the latest tech, incorporate it into a classic car and give it a soul! Well done as usual, keep up the great work!
Very nice.. thanks for sharing. Some of us will never be able to afford such beautiful gorgeous works of art. But just like going to a museum (sometimes online) to see one of Van Gogh's paintings, we can vicariously enjoy the fruits of your labor and admire the beauty and the attention to detail. Someday in the next life maybe we shall get to own something like this. Keep up the good work, I know you have a long order book so you will be plenty busy & making great pieces for years to come.
Thank you for your time designing and building amazing vehicles. It's a privilege to watch these videos as you share your work. The colors of the interior are amazing. This is one project for sure that came out looking like you left the interior untouched and original. It has such a lovely old school feel, until you look at the cluster and realize it's not Grandpa's Merc. And the exterior for sure has that old lead sled look about it, simple and elegant. I remember a shop tour a few years ago and seeing the 'engine' mocked up in this car and being excited about seeing the finished product. I think it exceeds any expectations I had at that time. I love the concept and I would say it's worth every moment of those five years. Oh and that intro was hilarious. :P
