- A mini video essay on the character Answer in GGXrd, a 2 step neutral character who has to build his screen control with layers of setplay, then dominates with fast movement, high damage mixups, and strong buttons.

Answer's whole "using the phone while fighting" shtick singlehandedly sold me on the prospect of him getting into Strive. I hope he gets an install there where, instead of any fancy magic, he just puts the call on hold.

One thing that's wholly unique to Answer is that his scarf is one of the few things in the game that is not manually animated it instead follows your path and trajectory. The only times it's animated like the rest of the game is when Answer is doing a move or is standing still. It's actually a huge animation flex when you realize how smooth the transition is between the two states.
It took me like 4 months of maining him to have even noticed that awhile back, Answer IMO is one of the most impressively animated characters Arcsys has done

Find me supers that are worth it in general for this game. Meter is too useful for everything but super.
@@HellecticMojo Venom dark angel is one of the best chip kill supers in the game and a legit win con for him in a lot of matches, ram's spinning sword super is incredibly good at closing out rounds with guys crush on top of allowing for decent mix on block, both of chipp's supers are great for crushing guts, may's while super is an incredibly potent combo tool that deals way too much stun, most reversal supers can be prc or even yrc on whiff which gives them a niche over standard DP, I-no air super enables extremely fucked up left right mix, jam Bao has disgusting minimum damage on a clean hit and is a really common round closer, Ky sacred edge is an absolute nuke on low scaling (easily will do 20%+ damage by itself on top of letting Ky combo after in the corner) , sin voltaic design gives him an unreactable high low as well as ways to keep up offence safer at power calorie levels, there are also plenty of other supers that can lead to pseudo unblockables when combined with other projectiles.
Like yeah, supers are often slightly outclassed but I wouldn't call them a bad use of meter on principle. A lot of the time they are the best thing possible to spend meter on
@@HellecticMojo Ride the Lightning and Sacred Edge are both really useful, RTL for air KD, reversal and damage, while sacred edge is useful for extending combos, damage and anti zoning. Ky's supers are all useful.
@@HellecticMojo DI Tyrant Rave when the opponent blocks but doesn't FD, the hilarity is worth the entire meter

Part of why I love Xrd so much is that as I'm blocking you just get to watch the characters do such cool stuff. I fought an Answer recently (I play Venom and am not very good; he was very good) and as I was blocking I just kept mentally raving about how cool Answer was!
Honestly why I love fighting games as a whole and why I don't care as much about losing online - even as I'm getting whooped I get to see my opponent put on a spectacle. I was so awe struck going online when Johnny came to Strive. I did not give a hoot when a single Johnny sent me down 3-4 floors in ranked, he's so cool!
I love XRD because of that too. I'm a Slayer player and I even get impressed by how fellow Slayer mirror fuck me up good. There was one game where a Slayer I fought had better fundamentals than me so instead of the usual 214P oki setup, I crouch in front of him and then proceeded to use 6P and 2D on wakeup AND I GOT AWAY WITH IT. Slayer players don't know when to block and keep getting him "countered". I felt so cool for adapting and using my brain.
Bro activated his third eye but not even it was spared from the truly dreaded curse of having poor physical eyesight
Answer is a character who oozes swag I love him alot

Even though I'm not a Answer player, I can easily say that his theme is not only my favorite Xrd song, but my favorite GG song overall this song is just perfect.

My favorite part about Answer's phone call is that you can *hear him while he's on the phone*. I have not found a translation of what he's saying, but according to a vague Reddit comment he's just saying "Yes, hello, this is Answer." and a bunch of vague, businessy responses but I'd love to know exactly what he's saying.
I want him in Strive too. No one i know plays xrd and its tragic because I love characters like Answer.
Every time I try and play answer, the chipp brainrot in me comes out, and I screw up thinking I can teleport whenever I want. Regardless, he is really fun. I hadn't played the game in years, but i realized it had rollback, so i figured i should get back into it.

Heh. Weird timing since I was just thinking about Answer's cool visual aesthetic and musical theme a couple of days ago after realizing I no longer had the latter on my phone. I am hoping he gets another shot some day, especially as someone who missed all of _Xrd_ and who feels rather bad for him being stuck in the same game as Elphelt Prime, She Who Oppresses.
I bought GGXRD back in 2019, just a week before Strive was announced (fml), and I went in completely blind, after messing around with a couple characters's combo trials, I was somewhat expecting to end up maining a simple straight foward character simce I thought the game was just way too complex for me.
That's when I tried Answer's trials.... some of the most confusing, overly complicated and unnintuitive stuff I've ever seen in any fighting game... _And I loved it_ . Answer is the only character other than Sol which I completed the trials and remember saying to myself out loud "oh damn, this character is so cool!"

i find it extremely funny that elphelt, someone with like 57 guns on them and wearing thick solid metal is lighter than chipp, a dude with a wrist knife and the worst fit known to man
I'm complete ass with him, but recently I've been slowly getting a little bit better with him and it's the most satisfying shit ever, he's so underrated
I once watched the xrd animations ,and the ones i loved the most were his animations, they're so well made ,if he to ever be in strive i wish they keep the same swag

It would be interesting to see Answer in Strive. His voice would be interesting too as I believe he shares the same english voice actor as Asuka, but I could be wrong.
I do really hope we get Answer in Strive, though I worry they would take away his uniqueness if they did.

I know GBVS is meant to work as an ultra beginner friendly fighting game, but god imagine if Grimnir had this kind of sauce with his vortexes like Answer's scrolls.
Been playing strive for a while now and I wanted to go back and try rev 2. Is the game playable right now? Would I be able to find matches if I were to buy it?
It recently got rollback on steam, you specifically have to buy the rev2 version, NOT rev and the rev2 upgrade kit. If you go to the rev2 store page, it'll have the one you want
Strive moves in slow motion compared to xrd, but if you can vibe with that, it's a fantastic game
You won't be able to find any matches through ranked mode or the generic online lobbies, but in most regions player hosted lobbies are pretty active so you can usually find games through there. There's also plenty of discords if you are fine with using those

nice vid man, as an Answer main its nice to have a role model such as superserious. But while i love the char, is hard to see it climb in the tier list, if not bottom 5, at least belongs on the lower half of the cast. Sometimes it feels as a half baked char that barely got the balance he needs (also the last patch nerfed him lol)

Answer almost made me buy rev 2. I messed around with him solo at someone's setup and thought he SO FUCKING COOL, but I couldn't understand how to use him for the life of me. I assumed the whole game was just as difficult to learn so I left it alone.
