Doubledeckeranton catches up with retired former work colleague Ken Farrington. 🚍🤗🚍
Ken has worked in the bus industry for over 50 years.
He has served the passengers, of Huddersfield driving buses, whilst also representing drivers, as a union rep.
His new book 'Diary Of A Hero', in Ken's words, is a 'Second World War Commentary', a kind-of love letter to his hero father, who passed away, while Ken and his siblings were of school age.
A diary, hidden unnoticed in a drawer for 50 years, describing one man's experience of the Second World War conflict, which became even more special to his children following his tragic death in 1960 at the age of 37, leaving behind his dear wife Margaret and her four children under the age of 12 in poverty-stricken inner-city Liverpool.
The book deals with how his wife and children coped with loss, with little assistance from the state, when putting food into the children was a major exercise.
It also describes the family's passion for Everton Football Club in their dad's legacy, along with happier times playing in the community and the parks and open spaces, that were our playground in those austere times.
