Becky S… will fight for justice, hold you accountable, raise you up, and tell you what couch to buy! Is anyone as much of the Complete Package as she is? ❤
I really enjoy Becky and Sam together… as well as Lynn. This website is a great women’s soccer website combining USWNT expertise and insight with a sense of humor! Well done!
34:17 Completely agree. I think the team would have done MUCH better at WC2023 if Mal Swanson had been with the team. She was scoring goals like crazy before the injury. Hoping she remains healthy!
If someone were to ask me a person I admire, the first name I’d say is Becky Sauerbrunn. Endless admiration for this woman. I never miss an episode she’s in. From her passion about Pride to her actionable advice and even book recommendations… Becky is a gift to this audience. 😍 Ok, I’ll stop gushing now. 😅
happy birthday, Becky!! thanks for spending some of your day with us! I love this podcast, love watching y’all be insightful and goofy and kind, love Sam committing to singing the bangers of our adolescence. can’t wait to see how the live show went!
Happy Birthday Becky! And thank you for your thoughtful insightful answer on being a leader who also happens to be an introvert and the advantage that can bring when spotting a teammate who may be quietly struggling.
Emma Haye's pressers were fantastic ---- very emotionally intelligent and caring --- also loved the Americanism of slowing down the attack by "showing patience" -- seemed Emma had never encoutered that and then right after that mentioned some one said 'we have to put the pedall to the metal' ---- and so Emma tried to echo that by saying 'you have to put the pedal on the metal' --- and someone said to never use that expressio again -- everyone in the pressroom roared.
To hear Becky talk about the team's "spine"......duh......Girma and Davidson are the "Mini-Brooms" of the team. Those two are because of you, Becky Sauerbrunn.
Hello Sam and happy birthday Becky. From watching history videos, I know Kansas City is the home of US WW1 Museum. It is also 80th anniversary of D Day today. I normally dismiss such references for football, but the link between UK and US ought to make it understandable that someone from UK working class like Emma having a no nonsense, get it done, must win attitude should not be too surprising. Looking forward, I hope Emma Hayes gets a fair go at improving football in general in US, since I think she has already impressed and I hope expectations do not get ahead of the plans she has. It is good for world football to have the game taken seriously in such an influential country. Unfortunately my first name for the roster would have been Midge Purce, as she seems such an intelligent player, but she is injured.
All these people talking about "Macario will be the 9. It has to be Smith at the 9" meanwhile the Mal Swanson Pugh Pugh Pugh Stans are here like Dre and Eminem. We've been here the whole time, come on in, the water is still hot, been that way since 2016. Becky spitting mad truths. OG prodigy. Missed her at the WC 😢
The key reason why Lily Yohannes will not play for Netherlands is simple (and thanks to you guys & your generation!): she is now earning EQUAL PAY DOLLARS! 🇺🇸💵⚖️💰🇺🇸 For friendlies, it’s $8K per match + $10K for a win, so she just banked $36K for this camp & 2 matches. I think she’s sticking around.
People confuse introvert with shy. So I would say to make sure you can differentiate that with yourself and/or your children. In a nutshell, an introvert tends to be more queit but not because of shyness, but because they gain energy, or spend energy the best when interactng with others in smaller settings. This doesn't mean an introvert can't give a speach at the ESPYs or something like that - it just means they are probablly going to not feel energized after doing it. So, Becky describes this idea to a T. This next idea i think is so key. Parents and coaches overvalue this idea of being "the leader", but the truth is, you can't have 23 leaders. I think before we teach leadership, we should focus on teaching our kids and adults for that matter how to be the best "responder" or "team player". The over hype on leadership seems like a waste because in your entire lifetime you will be the responder/team player far more often than you will be the leader. And I find the best leaders are the people who are the absolute best responders/team players. Lastly, nobody should wait to wear the armband. Its a great idea to have your child think of somethng they are either good at, or passionate about, and then ask the people in leadership if you could help out (sort of like a junor leader) in that speciifc area. Most leaders would love this - when you are in leadership there are just some tasks that arne't the best use of your time, and so this is just a win win. We've all probably been under a leader who wasn''t ready for the position, and that is not good for anyone. It shakes confidence, it creates mistrust, etc. So this gives you or your kid a smaller stage to gain confidence within, to show that they can be a leader amongst their peers, and prepare them in a way that is gradual. I love this discussion and I think Becky is a top-notch human being, she is a great example of a leader who values the team player, as she herself is the best team player. And, even at the age of 50 yeas old I learn from leaders like Becky, and I call her a role model.
There isn't a travel problem in this Olympics. First three games are in Nice and Marseille which are within an hour's bus ride of each other. If you win group, quarterfinals are in Marseille. Semi-finals will be in Marseille if you win group. Only the final is in Paris. The caveat being that since I have been following women's football as a major interest which began with the advent of ATA Football, USWNT has won only one group in a major tournament and that was in Concacaf. With Spain's injury problems, however, I make USWNT to be the favorites for the Gold.
I do hope you interview all the players that are retiring from club play and maybe even if any are retiring from country play, for this season or ending of 2024 and make that a tradition so that those that are retiring can have their final say. Thanks.
The WC made me so appreciative of Emily Sonnett ---- seeing her on some other occasions i should not be surprised but she is very talented also - i think she might have more memes using her expressions and faces--- so funny, even in her most annoying LOL
Man, I really wanna party with Sam to a bunch of 2010s songs playing in the back. Have her potentially break my [cheap] sunglasses or something, would be such an honor 😂😎
Can I ask about something Becky says here pls: surely nobody is trying to stop trans athletes from playing sport altogether? Nobody has ever suggested that, am I correct? The question is which category they take part in. If you are born male, can you compete in a female category or does there need to be an open category? I hadn't thought that anyone was trying to stop trans athletes from competing altogether.
Totally support the pride cause. However, I have questions about transgender playing with the gender they identify with. Interested in hearing more about how to do this since men are typically larger and stronger. I just don't want to see girls hurt. Currently professional sports have rules that you play with your birth gender.
I found soccer watching my friends daughters play HS soccer in NC at a time the were playing for State Championships in their class, so enjoy watching womens soccer. But what I want to know is why the wmls teams are so atrocious at passing? Also it seems their isn't a 1v1, (or more often 1v3) they are willing to give up trying rather than making, or seemingly trying to make a pass?
Are we going to ignore Becky’s opinion that everyone should play with the gender that they identify with? So is she okay with trans women playing soccer with born women? That will be an unfair advantage
I posted a similar concern. So I think that rules are in the works that documents are needed to prove what age the person transforms, that way hormones and puberty are considered. However, this is a very difficult line to draw. They will most likely be an age cut off. Example 12 yrs and older have to play with their birth gender.
ok - after that ref (ua-cam.com/video/GqNsoGw28lo/v-deo.html) i had to find it - Rose is on youtube (the interet never forgets) --- Rose Lavelle Exclusive Concert (sings Celine Dion) .....ROTFL

I always felt if Sam did not get injured she would have become a captain of USWNT
34:17 Completely agree. I think the team would have done MUCH better at WC2023 if Mal Swanson had been with the team. She was scoring goals like crazy before the injury. Hoping she remains healthy!
disagree. it was the chemistry

I haven’t see too many people saying this, especially after these two friendlies. Most people have her as the starting 10 and Soph as the lock at 9
Happy Birthday to Our Inspiring Team Captain!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BECKY!!!
Hey Sam, Lily's presence in the midfield reminds me of you. It's been a while since we've had that Boss in the midfield.
Happy birthday Becky 🎉

You should update the description text with the names of the books Becky mentioned and their authors.

Yes, Becky is right about dynamism 😁
