Here MO we too pay "personal property tax". It's am annual tax on cars, boats, planes (if you have those), horses, cattle, tractors, etc. etc. The list is long. And of course if you don't pay the tax you can renew your car/truck registration, driver's license, and some other stuff. Then there are the property taxes here. If you're behind for over three years the county will auction your property off. With all this in mind do we actually own anything?? ...or are we paying government for the privilege of "ownership"?
@@agenblr Interesting. How will the revenue be replaced for local governments?? That will be the big question. Every county & district in the state relies on those revenues & some don't have enough sales to switch to sales taxes which has been the other source of local revenue.

Hi Man, I would love to visit your farm!!! I'm a first generation land owner...In NC as well! And like to get some ideas from experienced guys like you. Subscribed!!!
When you are starting up in farming, you are basically mostly using your day job to pay for stuff for your farm job. This means the first and possibly second year you might not show any income for the farm, partly because the first year is basically paying for land, acreage, etc, and animal and equipment startups. (Legitimately) Is this going to be a problem when you go to claim those expenses and show it as a second job? You can't start up without lots of costs up front. I thought others have already been in this boat. Thanks.
Thanks for the info... I have a 300 acre woodlot in south east Canada the way the pay out for wood here is roughly in 1/3rds the land owner, trucking/logger company, mill split the profit equally...

I had an unexpected tax charge. Two years ago I bought a new motor home in New Mexico and was charged around $1800.00 sales tax, As I live in Texas I went and registered it here and was charged $1600.00 more sales tax. When i disputed it, I was told if I want licenses on it so I can drive it I would have to pay the tax. I told them that was double taxation. If I bought a house full of furniture or several thousand dollars of jewelry in New Mexico they wouldn't charge me sales tax in Texas. so how can they get away with charging it on motor vehicles. She told me "Because we can" Pissed, I was forced to pay the tax.
If you lived in Texas when you bought the motor home then you got screwed by the dealership. You shouldn't have been charged for the New Mexico sales tax.
You sold pulpwood.... that doesn’t give too much money.... but if you are able to re plant various species you could make descent money every fifteen to twenty years.

Now that I'm done complaining about license fees you have an awesome channel and I've been an avid subscribe for a while now and you and your family have a Happy New Year
We don’t have that tax on vehicles in Michigan, only tags once a year plus regular vehicle insurance.
Looking forward to seeing you fix the Massey.
Have a great 2020.
MEEEEE TOOOOO, and ol' Popcorn
Funny how things differ in different areas. I was told to cut the trees along my creek by the conservation dept.
Very good video, thanks for sharing...need to find a piece of land like that. Can you share were to find or who to contact for buying a piece of land in North Carolina or SC?
I have an uncle with 800 acres in pine trees. He gets around $40k a year from this same method.
They are completly mad how in thw world can 1 year differce models make such a differance. Good luck brother.
Good stuff. Surprisingly few discussions online along this line.
Happy new year's from Ireland give us a hi
Glad we don't have that vehicle tax in Michigan. That's crazy values. My 2003 Ram Rumble Bee is only worth about $3,500. We have horrible rust here.
Yes, wetlands must be protected, not sure of limits here but I know there are limits.
Michigan set asaide program pays you not to plant your fields. But it must be brush hogged once a year.
Happy New Year 🎊 Josh 💯✊🏽💯
Hey Josh thank you for the video I enjoyed it and it's good to have the video here because I can always look back down the road when I need to and happy New Year to you and your whole family y'all stay safe now
I agree about not understanding the taxes in NC
Thanks for the info Josh. My and my family are big time supporters of you, your family and your farm. WOOO
Hi from yamba Australia enjoy your videos interesting about vehicle taxes happy New Year to you and your family
Holy. What percentage is that personal property tax?
@@Fdjt4ever no not high taxes in MO, just tax everthing. Perhaps because state has long dixi-crat heritage, still burbling just under the surface...
Legislation is being drafted to repeal the PP tax in MO, would be voted on in November 2020 I believe.
@@agenblr Interesting. How will the revenue be replaced for local governments?? That will be the big question. Every county & district in the state relies on those revenues & some don't have enough sales to switch to sales taxes which has been the other source of local revenue.
Awesome video thank you. No one else will do this
I believe there has to be a fire set in the field and burn everything for those pines to properly grow. “I think” if I’m wrong just let me know. 👍🏻 Happy Freakin’ New Years Josh and family and of course everyone else too! Lol
No ya don't have to do a controlled burn for these trees...but it will stimulate growth and lots of areas in eastern NC do that. The NC long leaf pine really like controlled burning
Stoney Ridge Farmer Ahh okay. I knew it was some type of pine that likes to be on fire, lol. I just didn’t know which one. I stayed in Wilmington, NC for 14 years and my neighbor use to grow pines and sell them. 🤷🏻♂️ But he would try to teach us stuff and his son and I wasn’t really that interested because we were unaware of the importance.
We moved our of louden County VA because between a regular home and 2 regular cars we were paying almost 10k a year in property tax
Happy New year Josh. Good video 👍
Josh, you should research your property's land patent. Once you acquire the original land patent your property is erased from the tax rolls.
hmmm
Hey Josh! The Family Dollar that they built on your family land in Meadows of Dan, is finally opening next Thursday! It has taken forever!
Thanks for the reminder about taxes. I had entirely forgotten about them and would not have if not for your "public service" announcement. Looking forward to your videos for the coming year. Happy New year to you and the Mrs.
lol get your checkbook!
Taxes are a bummer so is homeowners insurance in northeastern California!! My insurance just went from eleven hundred dollars to seventy-five hundred on an 1800 square foot house all this because Pacific Gas and Electric don't maintain their equipment!!!
I paid my tax last Monday. Iredell county North Carolina raises my tax bill $500 this year. Every 4 years they reappraise the value. It was to late to dispute mine
Our tax values are actually dropping here...crazy huh
Stoney Ridge Farmer my house value went from 177k to 207k so that’s why it raised so much. Statesville Nc is in a good area for house value increase I guess. I wanted land and wife wanted neighbors. Since I’m not home but once a week for day in half. Wife won. Happy wife hope happy life. Happy new year
I recently watched a video that said those NADA rates are too high now because they are selling used cars. At the dealer they could be $15,000 because it’s being financed but if you pay cash to an individual you can buy it for $5000
My state, you pay county taxes. Which the county taxes go towards maintaining all the roads that are not state highways as well as the taxes go towards schools and any local government thing in taking care of and paying salaries
I'm honestly not sure where all the vehicle taxes go....but I have no problem with property tax...just a problem with personal property tax. I'll gladly pay my part for roads, schools and first responder services
My dad and our family planted apples trees and one pear tree my grandma makes a lot of apple butter and can a lot of apple sauce and we also have vegetables that we can my grandpa has a milk cow I love taking care of Sadie ! My grandpa and my family grow popcorn corn mostly for family ! Made homemade piccadilly ! Love when my family have wild duck with winter squash and pickle cauliflower and onions ! Take care Stoney ridge farmer 👩🏻🌾👨🏼🌾🐔🦆🦆🌲🌲🌲🍏🍏🍏🍎🍎🍉🍿🍿🍿🌽🌽🌽🌽🍅
Hi Man, I would love to visit your farm!!! I'm a first generation land owner...In NC as well! And like to get some ideas from experienced guys like you.
Subscribed!!!
Welcome to the channel...buddy this has been a journey for sure
Great video love the idea on logging your land and the taxes on the truck is bs in my book
Always hate doing that. Taxes stink.
Geez. I thought Minnesota was the Land Of 10,000 Taxes...I mean lakes
When you are starting up in farming, you are basically mostly using your day job to pay for stuff for your farm job. This means the first and possibly second year you might not show any income for the farm, partly because the first year is basically paying for land, acreage, etc, and animal and equipment startups. (Legitimately)
Is this going to be a problem when you go to claim those expenses and show it as a second job? You can't start up without lots of costs up front. I thought others have already been in this boat.
Thanks.
Nubuck leather boots are great you never have to clean or polish them.
You have great videos that are very instructional which makes you and your channel unique -- HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Thanks for the info... I have a 300 acre woodlot in south east Canada the way the pay out for wood here is roughly in 1/3rds the land owner, trucking/logger company, mill split the profit equally...
our loggers typically haul the lumber
Good tips Josh very good video thanks Happy New Year to you and family
Happy new year and awesome video
Good stuff josh. Good info that we would not have known
Much love brother nice to find this great channel
Happy New Year Josh, good luck with the illness, you can beat that if ya try, don't give up, keep trying, am cheering for you. trust me you will feel better
You mean...being chubby? LOL...working on it brotha lol
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer you are clever / smart, good job reading between the lines, i was trying to Not be rude, and PC at same time, lol, glad ya got it correctly, Happy New Year perhaps some may ask about the "illness", it was refered to as big boned when I was a youngen ? who needs 6 pack abbs when ya got a kegger going on. go ahead make me lol good stuff 4 sure, Live stream today?
Josh, it’s no better in Alamance Co. They raised my value on a used 2018 camper from $7900 to $79k. I went in and she told me she needed a bill of sale. I handed it to her showing the $15k I paid for it. She informed me that was no good. It had to be from a dealer. I didn’t buy it from a dealer. So she proceeds to get online and wanted to set my value based on what RV dealers were listing the same camper for used. She said oh here’s one for $20k. It was $20k new!! She said I can’t help if you got a good deal. Bunch of crooks! Now to appeal they want me to take it to a dealer to have an appraisal done. Kinda hard when it’s setup permanently 🙄
Rip off!!
Ct goes off the Blue Book value I think ? Even if you only paid 1000 for something and the book says 10k, you pay taxes on the 10k. It's bull loney !
Seems like it takes decades to grow new trees. Thanks for the video....
Happy New Year to you and the Mrs and StoneyRidge Farm!
Oh yeah bro, happy New Year. You have taught me a lot in a short period of time.
Thanks...hope hearing this helps ya...I'm working on a book about the reality of starting a farm and ways to generate income thinking outside the box...also a book concerning soil health and biology
I pay 5200 dollars a year in taxes for 4.3 acers in upsate NY. Makes it hard to think about retiring with enough to keep your home...
Now that's ridiculous isn't it!
The cut area looks like my brother's land when he bought it. He has 35 acres mostly woods. I think he has about 10 acres of cleared land.
Hefty hefty hefty bags plant 🪴👌 then you can replant at 4ft. We're u would like the tree 🌳
Happy New Year to Everyone.
I had an unexpected tax charge. Two years ago I bought a new motor home in New Mexico and was charged around $1800.00 sales tax,
As I live in Texas I went and registered it here and was charged $1600.00 more sales tax. She told me "Because we can"
Pissed, I was forced to pay the tax.
What do you mean they are charging tax on your truck? Ive never heard of such a thing. Hunting leases are great ways to profit! BOOM
I lived in Maryland for 3 years. They had something called a personal property tax maybe that is what this is. You would think his was a blue state
We get taxed on everything and all our vehicles in Ct :(
@@miriambertram2448 Miriam, I am saying this in a nice tone. I live in Maryland now and have for 53 years. We do not and have not had a personal property tax. Maryland has a state "real property tax" (real estate), an annual state income tax, and county annual tax. We pay taxes on purchases but not food. I know Virginia still has a personal property tax and Virginia is our nearest neighbor.
@@kateslippers8289 when I moved to Maryland and registered my car in 1973 I had to pay sales tax on my car. I had just bought that car in 1973 in the state of California. It is possible that the laws have changed since them but somehow I doubt that blue state laws have become more forgiving. And I live in a blue state
@@miriambertram2448 Yeap on the sales tax. It is a bummer and a shock. We just got a new car last year. We did live in Fla. briefly and we paid a tax on both cars when we moved there, I guess it was a transfer tax. When we moved back to MD the Florida DMV sent us a note stating we'd paid that tax and if we moved back and presented that letter we would not have to pay the transfer tax again. That was fair and a big surprise.
Great information Josh....Thanks!
Good ol NC. Pay taxes when you buy it, then pay taxes every year afterwords.
Hi..... Thank you 🎥👍👍👍
Messed up , Missouri taxes like this !
I'd start a revolution over that!
I never understood why you pay taxes when you buy the truck. Then they tax you every year after. That's like taxing on taxes.
Really helpful. I appreciate it Josh.
Do you have farm plates there.? Should pay 1 price on the plates. Did they try to raise taxes on the other truck?
Used old truck tax schools be around 1500 -2000 county is taxing you for a brand new truck.
Just sales tax on cars in Pa only land/buildings taxed yearly
But will bet your property tax less than I pay on 2bd ranch
Yeah, my in-laws live in western PA (Windber) and they told me PENN can really get inside their pockets with taxes! I feel ya brother👍I’m in KY. Property taxes aren’t near what they are in your state, that’s fer sure✌️
Ok, Professor.... Thanks for the inclusion on the ways to make money!!!!! Why are you being taxed on your trucks..... I thought DMV of North Carolina did the taxing on vehicles!!!!!! Did I miss something at the start??????????? Wooooooooooooo!!!!! (YOU FORGOT AGAIN!!!!) HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You pay your property taxes at the DMV every year...but the tax evaluation is through the county tax department
Taxes, I live in California and I pay tax because I own a dog, car, land and everything yoy list you get tax on. Looking forward to move from here asap, let me know if you have any good suggestions.
Move somewhere that makes you happy.....I have friends in the Bay Area...they live in a 1000 sq ft house that they are paying $2500 per month for....jobs aren't paying that much more...so ya work hard....go home and rest...plenty of cool places to eat....and things to do right? The exact think that everyone else is doing....think about the last time your hands were in the soil...not a flower pot...the actual soil....find a place you can get back in touch with the earth...that's my suggestion
