I’ve heard through a mate that 3x3 has been confirmed to be just for the starter set. Apparently said on a Facebook comment by the middle earth manager.
General Targg is indeed in the background of the trailers by either Wulf or Freca. It's quick, but I double checked he wasn't an original character and found him. There's another Dunlending general shown in the back in some shots, So maybe that could be another hero? Other heroes for the WOTR edition I could see are a new Helm (multiple versions), Hera (multiple versions), Frealaf, Hild. Also, plastic Riders of Rohan, elite Hill Tribesmen guard with those skull masks, plus Hill tribe Cavalry, Mumakil and Siege Ramps. A new Watcher, Snow Troll, Orc ring-finders, and a massive White Eagle would make fine editions as well. Due to the revamped Dunland profiles, the old Dunland models that look like Vikings or evil Rohirrim (Warrioirs, Horsemen, Huscarls, Frida, Gorulf, Thyrdan) could now be used as either Hillmen of Rhudaur, Men of the Anduin Vales, Woodmen of Mirkwood or Eotheod. I also wonder if metal wild-men will be phased out for these new ones, though I bet the Oathmaker will stay.
I am so happy that they ignore the rings of power. Apparently the war of the rohirrim might be interesting after all… inly…the rohirrim didn’t drove the dunlending from their land. They were just upset they didn’t got the land INSTEAD of the rohirrim.
In the Middle Ages the most powerful horses were used for work or war, Wulf's horse looks similar to a Friesian. Maybe it can appears to be similar to the old model Archaon's Nightmare.

Fingers crossed I don't end up being alone in my friend group. The new minis look cool, I really hope a 150 pages in a rule book is inductive to a simple game with a nice solid ruleset that's easy to pick up and play. I hope I can get my friends to play. 40k is the main game among my group. Might we see you post some How To Play games with this set?
Thanks for the comment, I had a long conversation about this yesterday and I reckon it depends on if royal guard feature in the movies. I am very hopeful
Thanks for the comment, I think one of the big motivations for going to a smaller board would be to reduce the power of shooting. I reckon the current shooting strength on smaller boards will make it a lot more fun to play with
Looks great! Thanks for the overview. What about making the saxonia rock bases in the same size as the Rohan houses? We could purchase the bases to elevate the houses that come with the box set.
This is great timing, I was thinking of starting a Dunland force with mostly Victrix minis, but since a friend of mine started Rohan we will be splitting this! I do kind of wish the starter came with some Rohan cavalry though, I understand it's a siege but it's obviously not an infantry heavy faction
"If you are not interested in my thoughts..." I really thought you were going to say "Why the hell are you watching the channel then?" lol. Good stuff. This is a pretty cool set mainly because it shows that they are willing to spend money and invest in MESBG still.
I was surprised there was a lack of model diversity in this box set - surely having a form of riders for each faction would've given more depth and a introduction to cavalry rulesets to start with
I was hoping to have a few more troop types but I am sure that they will come with future releases. We have the mounted heroes to learn the Cavalry rules but I was hoping for a monster. I reckon we will have a new great eagle and new Mumaks on the way soon
I fully expect that the existing Dunland army will end up as a Legends faction, with Wildmen and Crebain absorbed into the White Hand army (as in the article). The new plastics are so good! I can’t help but compare them to the Men of Carn Dum and think those sculpts are amateurish and an after-thought compared to these.
I like my Rohan HQs to wear a helmet on a horse, then helmless on foot. This set looks decent, guessing it's the standard $230 US that all the big boxes have been this year. If so its not quite the good deal that Osgiliath and Pellinor were. Hoping they price it a little lower to try and expand the player base.
I gotta say I expected GW to recycle the old Rohan models but I'm very happily surprised by these new sculpts. Also wasn't too interested in getting any new models but damn those wildmen are awesome. Hoping we'll get more plastics (especially a potential new Watcher for my Moria army) but I'm guessing the other non-hero models that'll come out for the movie will be FW resin.
Héra's absence in the starter box doesn't necessarily say anything about her role in the movie. Neither of the last two starter boxes contained the main characters of the films.
