First there were people who loved making music.
then there were people who realised that you could make money with it, signing these musicians.
Then they got greedy and couldn't find more talents to make even more money, so they started casting "talents" and faking it (aka pop-music)
Now we're so used to seeing these fake, untalented idiots that got casted by the big industry, that we're actually surprised when we see one of these original talents, that once were all the music that was out there...

music has always been about a career. James Brown especially.
Lance Daniels Yeah, it was always about a career, but back in the 60s and 70s it was all about character and talent. There was no formulae and people were starting record labels in a loft or one room office. The talent drove the business now the business part is driving the talent or lack thereof. The morons running the industry manufacture talent by grabbing a look and recreating their last hit by remodeling it with a new face different but similar lyrics and almost the same sound.
Its hysterical when they put a new artist or group on stage in a live performance and in spite off all the electronic magic they use its obvious in the first 2 minutes they actually are talentless and can't sing.
In the old days the label would work with the talent to build their career, their "brand". Now the labels pump out an album or two and if they aren't instant hits they dump them and look for the next one hit wonder. There is a reason shy sales are off y0% and the industry is panicking.
Actually an unusual raw character like Coutney scares them to death because she is so far outside their norm they're not sure why she's so popular, just that she is.I guarantee that after her first album, if she even gets a deal, they will start trying to change what she does to start to conform to what they know and kill her popularity. Its the very thing that over time killed creativity and uniqueness in the music scene and brought us to the almost musical desert we live in today. He'll Zinio would even argue you see more and better talent in general on UA-cam then are found in the industry today.
Your starting to see more and more talent like Courtney starting to emerge. They are looking back to the future so to speak. The question is, will the industry capitalize on it or smother it. One can only hope.

Also when she says people don't "get" her, she's talking about where she grew up and a lot of British people. She came to America partly because she thought Americans would appreciate her musical performance more. Obviously we do!
British people do get her. She was well received on The Voice, and in the opinion of many was the winner. What Britain is bad at is encouraging Brits. Had Courtney been a moslem the press, TV stations and uncle tom cobblers and all would have covered her like a rash. That is one unfortunate aspect of Traitors heading Government and media, that and the fact Foreign aid takes precedence over home entertainment.

Among AGT 2018 singers, Courtney and Glennis and everybody else at this point. I felt like I was at an 80,000 people concert instead of a contest. You guys are very entertaining yourselves and unlike some reaction hosts, who try to analyize every little "nuance" of a performance, you let the performer perform, without adding useless drivel. I'm 56 yrs old.. lots of people comparing her to Janis Joplin... I saw Janis as a kid... I remember her very well.. and.. Yes.. Courtney has got Janis all over her.. I want to remind the haters... Janis Joplin was a character.. a performer.. she had soul.. BUT MANY people did NOT like her voice.. it was raspy.. and she screamed a lot.. but her energy.. her soul.. her love of music.. her stage performance... was what made her FAMOUS.. and Janis ONLY produced 3 albums.. she sold over 15million... and is in the rock and roll hall of fame.. and she did this all in 3 years...Janis died at 27yrs old.. in 1970.. her 3rd and last album came out AFTER she died.
