As one who danced with Jose, I saw that he was not only a great dancer, and choreographer, but also, a great human being. Whenever you met him, in the dance studio or outside in passing, he always wanted to know "How are you? Did you get a good night's rest?" He exuded kindness in rehearsals and outside. Working on Missa Brevis for Lincoln Center's first dance performance in the then brand new Avery Fischer Hall What a grand vision he had. Bless you Jose.
I had the good fortune to see Jose Limon's powerhouse performance at the 92nd Street in the forties-No other dancer since has impacted on my memory. It was no surprise to learn that he embraced sculpture. Every gesture from head to toe was a composition that was breathtakingly beautiful.
Lucas Hoving influenced my dance style and choreography so much through Limon technique. I was in Lucas' dance company in San Francisco for 7 years. I still consider his work and all of those in Limon's dance company. Jose Limon also had a wonderful Spanish flair. Since I am also a flamenco dancer and choreographer, my works often move into both styles.
Your info.brings Joy as I was friends with Gitanos from Almeria,Limon sometimes gave rhe impression that he admired flamenco and you by mixing both cultures there will be a lot of beauty and emotions. That is the art of dance.

I want to ask you some questions but I can't figure out how to message you.

This brings tears to my eyes....Thankyou for putting this out there!
Limon choreography is so passionate. That is what is missing in so much dance today.
In a word; Brilliant!

I love Limon...
Jose Limon probably knew that there would still be performances of his work. I wish I could see at least one of them!
