Just donated to get my name on a joist and as it will be there for generations to come and it will be a testament of my involvement with this project. So i would urge all subscribers to make a donation with whatever they can afford and get this project over this road block. Everyone needs a helping hand now and then so lets so lets help this couple out of a hole.
Thank you for the update and explanation. Renovations are complex country to country, and taking the project on yourselves in a mammoth task. Keep up the excellent work! 😊
Perhaps one metaphor top many 😂. Hope your health, physical and mental soon revives. I enjoy your lugubrious humour… a creative melancholy that seems in character rather than truly pathological.
This episode’s edit deserves an award ! I loved it ! Very well managed with the end with the reverse which leads back to the beginning ! I suppose you have been in the post production at some point of your life. I’m a sound editor, by the way. 😏😎😅
I surely hope you reconstruct your stairway from ground floor to top floor. Move your boxed possessions from the sitting room to the first floor of the barn and tarp so you can reclaim the sitting room. The loss of the sitting room is too much everyday hardship.
Don't feel badly Lewis, my wife and I have been living in an open construction site more or less for the last 15 years. One day, I swear I will do the permanent kitchen. Really! All delay is due to finances. (mostly) Makes perfect sense to hang flue pipe as it goes through each floor. There is enough length to that flue pipe that intermediate supports at each floor are a good idea if not required by building codes.
@@TheRenovationProject There is a full "temporary" kitchen that serves us in terms of function. The temporary cabinets and countertops should never have been installed because they've made it far too easy to ignore the fact that they are temporary.
discombobulated - always something new to learn... Can't wait for when the restoration of our 1930 flat begins... With a similar financial and governmental background.
I went to a lot of home-improvements in my life and have experienced that it is very important to have one room without dirt and dust, where it's warm and cozy so you can withdraw from building for a moment and relax😵💫
i know that feeling, when every progress and desicion is dictated by money. We have the same problem. Our house was built "officially" 1924, but its foundry was built somewhere in the 1770s. And what we are doing now, depents mostly on material we have already in stock or within our financial possibilities. But the good thing is, that the building site elements are to a certain degree separated from the living space.
They can just do it where the flue is going to go for the interim they do not need to spend all their time doing it now unless that's all they have to do until the money for the joists is in but still the wall where the flue is going should be the priority for cleaning the stone joints and replacing them!?!
Well a number of people have donated which will help them, but at the end of the day it will be a slog because they want a decent finish and they are doing it themselves, the outside work appears completed to enable the weather to be kept out, which is a very big plus, putting in the timber floor will just take a number of weeks when they get the funds to purchase the joists and they can just clear the pointing and redo were the flue has to go in the meantime, not trying to do the whole thing, so before Xmas could see a big difference and that should be the target to set and aim for to enable them to get their mojo back, little targets to reach the big goal of completion, his partner still seems helpful and enthusiastic also which helps a great deal, onwards and upwards, it's looking a lot less daunting than most renovations (Dan's chateau for example and he's on his own!) and come Spring time they won't know themselves, people who have "stiff upper lips" are generally too shy or proud to ask for help but fair play they tough it out until one day they cannot!?!
Immediate steps to facilitate a way forward: 1. rent a storage unit and move all the stuff in the "study" into it. (Maybe cheaper to temporarily locate a storage container into the garden?) 2. cut out the little access "door" between the attics and install a full size door (a sloping lintel?). 3. decide that the walls are the priority and finish that massive task before starting on the floors. Just saying/suggesting.......
Hey, Sorry to hear you're having a tougher time at the moment, keep your hopes up, courage ! Thanks for all your work, Julien de Belgique
It's like the development loan game, with a self build mortgage - instalments dependent upon progress. It all makes sense to me but the planning and feeling of being on a production line sounds difficult ...to put it mildly.
@ I'm so glad that you're plowing the fertile soil of "utterly haunting and arresting self build." Certainly the world is better off without another royalty-free-blues-guitar-medley powered renovation series 👍
"anything is possible", unfortunately the same applies to a deluded mind (Thinking of the current Russian leader), however the overall view of the house shown in its current state is actually quite reassuring although I understand the living in the mess bit, it's not an overly burdensome project as most of the main structural works are completed, the floor joists and flue is a couple of months rather than several once the joists can be purchased, and the finished works are looking good, having a few hot beverages like tea and the mood will return to positive!?!
Really enjoying watching how you get on.
Thanks for your generosity, it will go towards more renovations and more videos!
Thanks!

Thanks for the ongoing support. A joist is yours!
Congratulations on making maybe your best video yet, while feeling under the weather and being down in the dumps in general. Quite the accomplishment.
Keep on going. Nice climate of the movies, everyday struggling with life challenges.
Thank you.

Every now and then every one needs a bit of help and encouragement. I hope all the bits and bobs give you some critical mass…
Thank you for your support!

Kiitos!
Many thanks!

I enjoy your calm voice with pauses in your videos, We must make the channel grow. !!
These kinds of projects just take on a life of their own. I hope you'll be able to put those puzzle pieces together in a way that keeps you afloat.

Your wife must have great patience, or you, if you are the cook of the house. All the best.

And thank you. :)
The storytelling on this episode was great - good job!

it will all come together
Good update, well explained
You have a very creative approach in your presentation of the renovation. I hope you raise all the funds that you need.
I really enjoy the word play
Yes Sir, renovation and indeed a house maintenance overall is a very expensive game. Be very careful when set any budget for a major renovation.
I know that frustration, but forward you go! Cleaning and those lime works is cheap and important too.

Bedankt
Thank you!
Something wonderful will happen to help you both. Keep on. Xxx🎉🎉🎉

the breaking eggs before the omelette :)
Nous sommes un peu loin en ce moment mais nous pensons bien à vous 🙏
Pascal ! Merci. 😃
What have I clicked on? David Lynch english horror home renovation? Adam Curtis DIY show?
I'm flattered, thanks :)

À cœur vaillant rien d'impossible...

Wouldn’t it be possible to put up a portion of the next floor in, to allow you to fix the flu?
Theoretically, yes. But we may as well put the whole thing in.
👍👍
It really does sound like a ridiculous system. But definitely the sort of system government put in place.
yes this is france ... you are helped to renovate if you already have the money 🙃
Ciao
Thank you.
Sorry you’re not 100%. You can hear in your voice/ breathing. Look at smaller area. One bit at a time. Not the whole. Yet. 😊😊
Il faut rendre a madame un confort minimum soit: un séjour, une salle de bain et un WC correct... Priorité c'est le confort
I did not understand what you wanted to talk about. It is a little bit of jibber jabber
Thanks
Thanks to you.
Thanks
Thank you :)
