Big fan of the channel - please consider that part of the appeal is the honest, down to earth and genuine style, hopefully your snazzy new equipment won't make it too glitzy!!! Glad it's going well for you, always watch your vids.
Very interesting as always, and surprised with the apparent ease with which you made your wax. I always imagined it to be more complicated. All the best for 2018, looking forward to seeing the channel's continued expansion.
it can get a lot more complicated rob. this is a basic wax that is relying on the Nuba to provide the performance. however the wax is not too dissimilar to a lot of waxes you can go and pay decent money for. And also the old school waxes are kind of nice in lots of ways. but in terms of durability and maintaining the hydrophobididity this wax is limited. When you start down the road of blending in other specialty chemicals it can get tricky in terms of the way you have to control temperatures for some components which you cannot exceed certain temps against others which you need to raise certain temps to disperse properly. Also the more things you add in the more considerations there are on performance and application factors etc.. specially when you start adding things which improve durability. you can make the wax unusable or hard to apply with some durability components. you can also make the wax like smeary with certain synthetic components you might add for gloss (not always though). It can start very simple but can get complicated and expensive quickly.
I'm liking the look of the home brewed wax Jon :-) , I personally can't wait to see the new content on the channel in 2018 , as for the patron that's just a added bonus for us all . Thanks again and a happy new year to you and the family 👍

hey patrick you just have to blend everything togther theres no real process to show the key thing is the ingredients in it though and these are sort of speciality chems rather than things you can readily source or things you could potentially make at home. could maybe do a homemade wax emulsion spray wax type video though that would be cool.
One of my favorite videos to date... just one question. What should I do when I am pouring my wax and the solvent starts to separate from the wax before it solidifies? I heard freezing it is not ideal
hey carson it should not do that.. I dont think thats ever happened to me. sounds like you have components in there that are seperating.. EG like oil and water dont mix and need emulsifers. a wax solvent oil blend does not need emulsifying. it might be possible you have not blended them togther enough. It might also be possible that the wax blend has too much solvent and oil so it OOZES like liquid out of the pours of the wax when you press it. so it could be a balancing issue, or it could be a product compatability issue, or could be as simple as needing more blending. very hard to say without kjnowing the method you are using and whats in it though buddy
I gotcha. I am doing the same process as you and I have two heating devices. I have a magnetic stirrer that mixes the liquid for around 5 minutes. The only thing I am doing different than you is that I can’t get my hands on the CarChem phase (I wish I could) because I’m in the USA. So I am using odorless mineral spirits which could be the problem. Also have you ever thought about making this type of wax in a spray form? Thought that’d be cool.
odourless mineral spirit. Its possible that could be the problem. so odourless mineral spirit could be a lot of different things. If you have bought like a solvent from a hardware store there could be some other things in that solvent blend. I would switch solvents. Try a pure odourless keresene (which I know is mineral spirits) but if you get that specific product its less likely to have other things in there.. I think the problem is with your solvent

too lazy phil, too old as well.. no plans to sell a product range. not sticky but greasy.. and yes too much oil stop or reduces the cure.. so even after say 30 minutes the finger swipe can fail and its "wet" still.. Too much oily can also make it doing buffer trail wipe marks/hologram type things.
hey there you could use a wax emulsion product made from a particular wax like montan nuba etc.. then heat the emulsions just below boiling point. Add water, then drop it down in temp to 70-80 deg and blend in hydrocarbon solvent, silicon oil etc.. blend it for 5-10 mins then let it cool. you can also blend waxes togther then add your own emulsifier and then blend in the water, then the rest like above.
Thanks for the info. I'm having trouble on finding Phase wax in my country ( I live in the Philippines) can you recommend an alternative brand or a generic wax solvent as a replacement for the carchem phase? I appreciate your reply. thanks a lot!
got it. thanks. I still have a few questions I hope you can help me with this. you said that "you can also blend waxes togther then add your own emulsifier and then blend in the water, then the rest like above" to make a carnauba spray wax. If I'm going to make a 100ml of carnauba spray wax, what will be the ratio of the wax, emulsifier, and water?
tell you what Ill shoot a video on making a spray wax emulsion as some point to give a starting point for anyone interested. your talking about 30-40% wax emulsion 30-40% water 10-20% hydrocarbon plus other additives for slip, gloss, repelency durability etc..
Hey their, you would probably want an abrasive in the wax like aluminium oxide... But I would buy something.. try buying a product called rupes advanced
Brilliant video Jon keep them coming mate wouldn’t worry too much about better camera shots content is the most important thing that’s the feedback I get from guys on my channel looking forward to 2018👍🏻🎥🎬
its just a simple sort of oily organic wax blend it wont last as long as a commercial wax.. its a bit like R222. will last like a month or something, we have done durability waxes though but they can be a bugger to apply.

if the wax blend contains oil, does that mean that it will be sticky once you apply it? so it will never dry????
not sticky but greasy.. and yes too much oil stop or reduces the cure.. so even after say 30 minutes the finger swipe can fail and its "wet" still.. Too much oily can also make it doing buffer trail wipe marks/hologram type things.
Pretty good John, will result in a nice useable wax.
Its no Enigma but its a good start :) cheers john happy new crimbo and new year mate.
In what steps would you add dye to add color and/or scents to enhance the smell?
I would do that after all components are in so you can judge color.
Great Video! Can you please make a video on how to make a carnauba spray wax.
hey there you could use a wax emulsion product made from a particular wax like montan nuba etc.. then heat the emulsions just below boiling point.
I'm having trouble on finding Phase wax in my country ( I live in the Philippines)
can you recommend an alternative brand or a generic wax solvent as a replacement for the carchem phase? I appreciate your reply. thanks a lot!
odourless keresene flash point 77 deg lorenzo. that would be a decent starting point
got it.
Confused about the phase solvent.. scientific name? Anyone? What do i have to say when i purchase phase solvent?
What would you add to make a nice grip/polish for lawn bowls?
Hey their, you would probably want an abrasive in the wax like aluminium oxide... But I would buy something.. try buying a product called rupes advanced
@@ForensicDetailing So, mix the Rupes in with the wax?
Excellent tutorial. Thank you.
Jojoba Esters is great for Balms

its there any replacement for the car chem phase solvent? (im from Argentina and AFAIK... we dont have it here)
odourless keresene
Instead of the car chem phase what else could I use ?? As they don't seem to sell this now
odourless keresene mate.
@@ForensicDetailing thank you for the quick reply much appreciated 🤙
have you tested this vs Bilt Hamber DS or anything else?
its just a simple sort of oily organic wax blend it wont last as long as a commercial wax.. its a bit like R222. will last like a month or something, we have done durability waxes though but they can be a bugger to apply.
Great video as usual John =) and the best of luck whit patreon
cheers guys appreciate it
Hola y cera liquida?
Hi Jon. Trying to subscribe to Patreon and I'd like to make a one time 'donation' and not a recurring, monthly one. Is that possible? Thanks for all you do.
thanks go trixie thats really kind. To do that you sign up and set the pledge. Then patreon goes and collects the pledges each month. After its collected the pledge you just cancel. theres no like one time pledge option. thats the only way to do it. you can sign up for 1 dollar pledge and then access the content for a few months and cancel whenever you like. every contribution is much appreciated the take ups been fantastic and Im putting a fair amount of time in it to try and give value.
could you use autoglanz links solvent instead?
im not sure what that solvent is and how it behaves compares to phase.. Im sure you probably could use it with oil and wax.. but I dont fully understand it to be able to say definetivly or how you might need to re balance the recipe if you used that instead.. have a play. Im guessing it will work fine.
What size are the wax tins you are using ?
30ml (have some 50 ml) check out lucemill in scotland
Can I Use IPA INSTEAD of car chm phase
no IPA is a water miscible non polar solvent. phase is polar mate. odourless keresene you can use if you cant get phase. get D80.
This night , iam trying this
The links are dead
Hi Jon
I’m followed you from when there was 150 subscribers.
I have watched all the video that have been posted and have took it on board and learned so much from them.
Went on to your patreons page it’s at 68% for the wide angle lens.
Can you pm on Facebook if you have paypal please I’ll make a donation to your camera lens fund.
Billy fraser Glasgow.
I’m the one asks about your guitars and stuff lol.
Hope you have had a great Christmas and have a great newyear
hey billy I remember mate. you can just pledge on patreon and then delete the pledge after the first payment. this way you can also have a peek at the content we done so far. really trying to make it so the patreons want to stay. So gonna be doing loads more wax brews and and slowly send them out to all the patreons over time as we do them. my PP email is rover8200@hotmail.com but I feel more confortable with the patreon thing because I can give something back in return with the content.
Patreon subscription done!👍
