- I've had several days to explore the country as I make my way to the coast. I'm here for the Namib Desert Race, a 7-day 250km stage race, part of the Racing the Planet 4 Desert Series. I'll now be joining the other runners at camp as we prepare to run across one of the oldest deserts in the world.

I'm not a sentimental person, but Vladmi's story made me tear up and left me in deep contemplation. Thank you. I'm a big fan of your journeys! Lately, when hiking and running around Vancouver I look at the runner's faces hoping I'd meet you to just say hi and thanks :)

I felt as if I was watching a National Geographic special. Since finding this channel I have been fully engaged with the high level of videography but this Namibia Race series is next level! You have really captured the spirit of the race and the participants in it. Quality work, you deserve many millions of subscribers who are looking for nature, inspiration and the love of the long run!!

I participated in the 35th edition of the MDS and unfortunately I decided not to continue after the second stage in respect of a deceased competitor. I have to go back to the desert ...

Story telling at its finest. What an inspiration Vladmi is. A reminder to us all that anything is possible, but more so for me, that we should remember to feel and be aware of our surroundings beyond what our eyes tell us.

I can't remember the last time I was so excited about the next part of a series. You've done an amazing job with this so far Jeff, it was great to meet some of the other runners and you really made me feel like I could have actually been there, waiting in suspense for the start of the race. One remark, if I may, I wish these videos were a little longer, or just one long video covering the entire race. By the time I'm all excited, ready for action, it's over 😔
Thanks Val, I appreciate that feedback. I hope the episodes will feel more natural once the race starts, with a separate one for each stage. I wanted to give the same feeling in watching it that we had in racing, where there’s a break in between each day/stage to sleep, reset, and start fresh on the next stage. I felt that separating that by episode would help to give you that same feeling.

You can feel emotions building before the race starts up and that camaraderie unique to theese multistage races. Great footage :)

On multi-stage nutrition...what do we think of adding a teaspoon worth of a 'solid' fat (like coconut oil) to each bag of freeze-dried food?
Adds extra Cals and fat without adding too much extra weight (~10g/meal)...might even jazz up the taste of some of them.
I've added it to carb/fructose sport drink mixes on long days with no negatives...except on colder days 😏
It’s a great idea. I forgot to mention it in the video, but I did have a small bottle of olive oil which I added to each meal. You can actually buy individual packets of olive oil to avoid the potential mess of using a bottle. Great way to add some fat and additional calories as you say, along with a bit of flavour 👍

Excellent pace. Loved the featurette in the middle of the Brazilian guy. Fun to watch! Trying to tell what camera is used for what. Did you use your go pro? Obviously the DSLR/Mirrorless and the insta.
Thanks Dan! Mostly filmed on the Sony a6600, but a fair bit was also filmed on the GoPro - anything moving, as well as the secondary angles during the interviews. I don’t think I used the 360 camera at all in this one.
@@JeffPelletier right I saw a few angles with the insta in the first episode. That a6600 is really high quality.
@@UltraDad it’s a nice little camera for travel, and the lenses are so much lighter than their full frame equivalent. Not the best in low light but it does the job.
