What kind of diplomacy… “You’re beautiful, there are tales about your beauty, everyone talks about your beauty, your beauty is known all over the world, mothers tell their daughters about your beauty”… This is ridiculous!
Unlike the other women in the Harem and even Mahidevran Hatun who was at her Sehzade's Sanjak, Haseki Hurrem Sultan was a confidant to her Padishah. In this case, she was so powerful of course she knew what she was doing, she had her son's ears and she had her husband's also. This was a good diplomatic move for a country whose men were at war and for Sehzade Selim who is not favoured by the men left in the capital and had many other issues to deal with. It made them look wise and generous and hence powerful not just to their enemies but more importantly Sehzade Selim more wise to his Padishah. If they could afford it, why not do so when future alliances for a country at war is a good thing. Also she seemed to be doing it out of her own pockets. Having a daily stipend of over 10x the Sultan's own family when could easily do such a thing. Everything Each member of the dynasty, especially Hurrem Sultan's children did added to their "work portfolio" if they were terrible, then it's as if Sultan Suleiman made the wrong decision to marry their mother and the sons would be less liked, even the Sultan less respected. This was a good diplomatic move Edit: especially given how Sehzade Mustafa would soon fail to correctly stop the Janissaries rebellion 😬 makes Sehzade Selim look AMAZING 🤷🏽♀️ to this Padishah
Anna Jagiellonka córka króla Polski Zygmunta I Starego nigdy nie była w Imperium Osmańskim. Anna Jagiellon, daughter of King Sigismund I the Old of Poland, has never been to the Ottoman Empire.
It is ridiculous to depict the alleged visit of Anna Jagiellon to the harem, i.e. the brothel. In fact, two letters from Hürrem to the Polish king have survived, and of course they were not written in Ruthenian, as it was the language of the plebs. It is also ridiculous to think that a Polish princess of a large, rich and strong country would take any loans from the Turkish sultan. The authors of the series were carried away by fantasy without a basic knowledge of history.
Calling the Ottoman harem a brothel is really, really inaccurate. It was more of a training ground for future wives of Ottoman officials. Sure, some women were selected as concubines for the sultan, and that was an important function, but it wasn’t the sole function, and in any case imperial concubines weren’t prostitutes.

My guess is because of rank and age. She ranks below Hürrem and Mihrimah (and probably Princess Anna). I'm not sure about Gülfem. Since she was a concubine of the ruling Sultan and, according to the show, had a son with him who died young, she might also outrank Nurbanu at this point since Nurbanu only has a grandson of a Sultan (Selim is still only a Sehzade at this point). Even if they are about equal in rank, as far as I understand from this show, age also matters a lot, so since Gülfem is older, she has the right to sit before Nurbanu does if they were of equal rank.
@@munazah9838 well she did have a child (or were it two?) with Suleiman according to the a scene in season 1 but they died before the show begins. The writers just never made clear where that places Gülfem in terms of the hierachy. They sometimes treat her like a sultana and sometimes like a simple concubine. We only know she is definitely below the ranks the blood Sultanas hold and Mahidevran and Hürrem acquired during their lives because she bows to them and/or is always adressed after them. I have not seen her bow to Nurbanu yet (at this point in the story). My assumption is because of that either: - Gülfem still slightly outranks Nurbanu as the mother of deceased children of the current Sultan - OR both are of roughly the same rank but Gülfem takes precedence to sit because she is older than Nurbanu
@@DimSK. well in real life, Gülfem most likely wasn't a concubine of Suleiman either but a high ranking harem steward and was on pretty good terms with Hürrem. But we have to go by what the show made of her here and not the historical Gülfem (no matter how much more interesting she is). In the show, she is a concubine of Suleiman and had children with him that died young.

This was a good diplomatic move
Edit: especially given how Sehzade Mustafa would soon fail to correctly stop the Janissaries rebellion 😬 makes Sehzade Selim look AMAZING 🤷🏽♀️ to this Padishah

Hurrem earned her position and power. She was born with the qualities of a queen so she became one. She owe nobody.
Princess Anna needs a cough syrup....🤣🤣
Epizode?
Sure, some women were selected as concubines for the sultan, and that was an important function, but it wasn’t the sole function, and in any case imperial concubines weren’t prostitutes.
why Sultana Fatma did not bow to Princess Anna? they have the same status ,Princess Anna was equally Princess Fatma

4:11 why Nurbanu is the only one standing?
@@MissDatherinePierce in real life, gulfem would not even sit in that apartment, nurbanu outranks gulfem.
She is mother of royal bloodline. While gulfem is not.
My assumption is because of that either:
- Gülfem still slightly outranks Nurbanu as the mother of deceased children of the current Sultan
- OR both are of roughly the same rank but Gülfem takes precedence to sit because she is older than Nurbanu
@@DimSK. well in real life, Gülfem most likely wasn't a concubine of Suleiman either but a high ranking harem steward and was on pretty good terms with Hürrem.
But we have to go by what the show made of her here and not the historical Gülfem (no matter how much more interesting she is). In the show, she is a concubine of Suleiman and had children with him that died young.
A princesses of some other empire would not bow to a princesses of any empire these dramas really want to shoe thier history superior to others
