Beautiful how it fell away from the house. Questions 1) Was the hinge direction and the winch line at 90° to each other? 2) was the hinge cut level ( parallel to the ground surface)?
I forget what the hinge cut was like but usually it's 90 degrees to the grain of the tree so it wouldn't be quite parallel to ground. The guy line was roughly 90 degrees as you described to achieve a firm back pull and make the tree honor the notch.
