Daniel Lee/Burberry, make that happen!!
Applause! Applause! I think that Burberry should really take you up on your offer to consult with them. You could teach a course on branding. Your point about sticking to your strengths and not trying to be all things to all people is crucial for all brands to understand. Excellent analysis!
13:53 - I have one of those personalized cape/shawls! I wear it every fall/winter. I agree that they should bring that style back bc it is honestly iconic.
As usual, totally amazing video. Also, love the history lesson, had no idea about it. I wish these brand would 1) stop being so greedy (I’m looking at you LVMH, not working out so well for you lately is it) 2) embrace their identity, I’m getting tired of everything looking the same. You completely right when you say Burberry needs to go back to what they are known for and good at! Cassie keep doing what you’re doing because you are truly amazing at it! ❤
Burberry in its heyday was EVERYTHING! The only show to get into at London Fashion Week, everyone flew in just for it. I remember my friend had a python trench coat coloured in gold - a dream ❤

The other is a $40 knockoff of a *esluxy* backpack - also for comparison - I can't find any difference and still use it at the gym
The fact that the counterfeits are just as well made as the "real" ones, which is the case with the *esluxy* I know of, should make you wonder why you should pay the ridiculously high price tag.
*esluxy* who produces replica bags obviously know how to find out the size of the bag and then produce the same size bag etc. These examples are not bad but very worthwhile bags to buy. Even if it walked by you you wouldn't recognize it as a replica and that's the point.
My mom is in her mid sixties and she remembers Burberry as a middle class brand during the 60s and 70s. She once told me that they were out of their minds, if they thought that her generation was going to pay luxury prices for Burberry, after being a much more reasonable priced brand. I have a couple of things from them from the y2000 era, but nothing about the brand has been really enticing for me since then. And when I saw their last collection prices I couldn’t stop thinking: they are completely lost ( and out of their minds).
Didn't they suddenly stop making custom trenches? And the exotic weird ones? Like if you are charging big money, have big luxury services? Edit: they only do the trenches in 3 colours and you can't even get silver buttons.
The reason why "high quality replica bags" are called "high quality" is that their dimensions are exactly the same as the originals. This is why people tend to choose *esluxy* for "high quality replica bags" nowadays. Just by looking at the bag, you can't tell the difference between the original and the high quality replica bag.
The fact these bags can be faked and sold at a fraction of the price just shows how much the luxury brands are ripping people off. Yes quality and materials might not be the same but some dupes are pretty good. I’ve wasted so much money on designer bags and, as a 50 year old, could have bought another house or many *esluxy* with what I’ve spent. My advice is to only buy if you can afford it plus other important things and don’t necessarily turn your nose up at a dupe!
Totally agree to your points. There should be one affordable heritage line that has the trenchcoats, the dufflecoats, quilted jackets with the corduroy collars, wellingtons, classic chelsea boots and military boots. Because we want to own these classic icons and be able to rebuy once they are over their lifetime. How can they let go of their heritage like this. This is how they turn into just a brand and stop being a company with a culture.
Meanwhile Barbour is doing well with tons of different lines and sizing and even Dior ripped off their quilting for a jacket a short while back. But no apparently we need chavvy streetwear, he did not understand the assignment.
I am so here for a FULL COLLECTION of trenches. Give me cropped, give me leather, give me nylon and wool. Give me edgy, give me all white (with a light and dark gray check inside). Idk if puffer coats are done, but a full length check puffer coat!? Heck yes! I've had a burberry cape on my luxury wishlist for a while, but I haven't felt inspired to buy it. Hopefully something beautiful shows up soon
If they want to continue, they need to wake up. Their sizing is awful, their pricing is awful, and all the things that made them what they are have been discontinued.. I think you covered the pricing atrocity already. Totally agree on the Prosum.
I was on their website looking up perfume to see if my fave London was being discontinued after poor longevity in a reformulation and found out they have a boutique line of perfumes that literally nobody ever talks about because most of us dunno it even existed. They don't even let you buy SAMPLES.
@@jheng8648 When I tried on a coat the only difference between the l and xxl was the length of the sleeves... Everything was miniature. And I was shopping Men's coats.
@@jheng8648Extremely inconssistent and for me at least the things are humongous, and maybe the people have gotten fatter, but they haven’t grown huge arms and legs.
There was a very recent documentary and they were interviewing very well-off women. These women were speaking about how they no longer purchase authentic purses and have chosen to purchase really good *esluxy* of the designer bags that they do like. They then take that saved money and invest their money into other things such as real estate, stocks etc.
The Burberry I remember most and that is most iconic to me were the days when Agyness Deyn was the muse and face of the brand. It was cool, edgy, young and felt just so so IT. Now, it’s lost and I feel it’s not currently in the same heights (with Celine, LV, Miu Miu etc) as what it feels it is.
I couldn’t agree with you more! Burberry is legendary for trench coats and outerwear! They need to focus more on that niche they do well and get back to a price point that doesn’t make people choke on their tea! 😂 This is good advice for all luxury labels and across all industries…stay in your lane people!! ❤
I've had to learn how to make my own trenchcoat, pattern and all, purely because I read they stopped their custom order service. I hear a lot from other people who took sewing more seriously during lockdowns because of frustration at stuff like this. We cannot replace it? FINE. We'll MAKE it! Edit: I couldn't find the colours and buttons I wanted even on their custom side. No silver buttons. How?
100% agree. Bring back Burberry Prorsum. The styling and colours of those fashion lines were iconic and inspired much of my wardrobe in my teens and 20s. The new shoes and the bags shaped like bum holes etc are a bit naff and not timeless. Burberry has a long history. Would love to see them dig into the archives and pull out some of their classic pieces. I would be front row and centre for an entire trench show!
Spot on Cassie ❤❤. I LOVE BURBERRY, I own few of their pieces and they are amazing quality. To me Burberry stood out for its TRUE LUXURY classic designs, unique from the other brands. I feel the competition between the luxury brands have taken away from the original designs the brands such as LV, Saint Laurent, Burberry and etc. have been popular for. Today they are mostly copying one another or designing similar pieces. Thank you for cheering for Burberry. ❤
@@seabreeze4559an old expensive trench coat with torn bits, missing buttons etc…very country seat darling!!! The proper old aristocrats are know for that. Imagine her name is Cassandra but her friends call her “Chuck” she has 7 dogs who run around everywhere, her bathroom hasn’t been updated since 1972 & she does shop at Waitrose but usually she sends Matilda the Scottish maid there to get a bottle of midrange plonk. She grows most things herself in her garden though and she gets her own eggs from her own chickens
Well, for a brand that's been around since 1856, they've done really well. Not many businesses last a year or two; one has to applaude them for staying around so long
Okay, I’ve always scratched my head about the obsession around the *yutulu* book totes and their practicality, but this one is adorable!! Congratulations ❤
This is one of the best videos i have seen on Burberry 😮😮❤❤❤❤ i agree with the prices, it's like Chanel trying to be Hermes, i think brands should stop doing this otherwise they will start killing their likability!
I inspected every aspect of the bag and everything from the stitching to the hardware looked top notch. The leather was soft, the logo embossed precisely, and even the lining felt luxurious. It was hard to believe that this wasn't a *esluxy* LV Nano bag.
I still remember the metallic trench coats from the Christopher Bailey era!! I'm so sad to see them in turmoil. I got their Waterloo Trench Coat and it's one of the best investments I ever made!
Always appreciate a history lesson along with your videos! ❤ I would love to see you as a Creative Director for a luxury brand! I feel you really know whats works and what doesn't. I love watching you style outfits because you put together things I wouldn't think of. 😊
I got my first Burberry Trench - and so far the only Trench (but other things) in 1993... a classic, always will be... brought it in 2023, exactly 30yrs later to their famous Aftercare Service: destitched, thorough cleaned, waterproofed, stitched together again, new buttons and buckles - absolutely fabulous again! I hope they'll survive! As you said: my Alpaca Coat is Max Mara, as my Down The Cube... Bags and Shoes are Bottega Veneta... Accessories and some linen pieces - Hermès ... Cashmere Loro Piana... That's how I was raised
You were raised well. Bought my Burberry trench coat in the mid 1980s and my MaxMara in 1997. Still going strong. When I wear my MaxMara I am sometimes asked if I have a new coat.
Amazing video as always Cassie! Loved your insights… I’m a big fan of Burberry, they do make really good quality handbags and I wish they shift focus to having some classics if they want to compete in the handbag/accessories space…I was hoping the banner bag was that, then Ricardo came along and discontinued them. Too many changes too quickly imo. Ricardo left givenchy yet the antigona is still a classic. I believe having a good classic that transcends trends and different ages can help with a brand’s longevity. You got this Burberry! We are rooting for ya!
Cassie, I agree with you on the brands identity crisis. I always saw Burberry as a great entry point into luxury as I feel like they used to have more competitive prices but still had brand recognition with the check or knight on horse logo. Too many brands are trying to become so exclusive at the same time and I don't think there's a whole ton of space in that $700 for the most basic T Shirt in existence with a name logo printed on it. They need to offer those polos with the check on the collars for under $400. I think their history of being more common and everywhere will never allow them to be a BV, Loewe, etc.
Completely agree with your analysis. As a British gal myself. I grew up thinking Burberry as old money and aristocrat, the boys going down the Bullington Club wearing their trenches. Then in the early 2000's a coup happened and the label was overtaken by fakes seen on every high street and pub car park fight. Somehow Christopher Bailey managed to keep steering the ship in the classy direction. Since Christopher Bailey's departure the label has attempted to follow the direction of other labels which it should not have done. It's an old British label and that is what it should embrace. Yes, you can add small additions of 'out there' pieces, but the bulk of the collection should stick with it's original aesthetic. We have just had this 'quite luxury' phase and this was Burberry's chance to really lean into that and they didn't.
Some odd years ago I went to the Burberry store to show my friend how horrible the brand had gotten. We were looking at a puffer coat with what was made to look like packaging tape on it. An SA walked up to me and very nicely asked if I liked the jacket. I replied “mmmm that may be an overstatement lol” and I looked at her and said “do you like it 😗” and she quietly replied “…😬 I don’t like it. And I haven’t sold a single one” Growing up I used to love Burberry. It was very British with a mixture of classy but modern, militaristic, and country gentleman. I thought once I grew up and be able to afford it, I would buy many of their items. And I would if it didn’t go downhill. I do like what they’ve done with tapping back into the archive, but the prices are unjustifiable
The *yutulu* bags are gorgeous in their size, weight and color. Bought pink, cream and blue. I think I might go back and order the light lilac, light blue and red. I own some high priced designer handbags, but I like these even more!
I still love my LV reverse monogram *yutulu* clutch! It's versatile, fits a variety of items, and is definitely a workhorse! I think seeing it everywhere (like the LV speedy) is proof that it's already a classic.
💯 THIS!!! I’ve found over the years with SO MUCH stock, they don’t even know how to merch it & this has also become a disadvantage. When the Sydney flagship store opened I was asked for my opinion on the layout & visual merchandising - they were given the entire Burberry Prorsum collection for the first time & it was just all put into the first corner on the left & I was like ‘WHAAA!?! 😳?’ The new store was located in an amazing old heritage listed bank with basically a runway down the length of the store & I said ‘Why is it not displayed down here?’ & then their Trenches as you said - what they’re known for - was all randomly tucked to the right of the store & was just all over the place! Even the children’s section was tucked right down the back behind this giant pole where if you didn’t go down that way, you could not see it from any other angle of the store - it was truly baffling from a VM & Sales point of view. They have SO many iconic firsts that other brands haven’t done & it’s just a matter of utilising it & drop capsules with weird & different products here & there for those of us who like it. Agree with the Cape! I was 4th on the list in Australia when they launched it & missed out as they cut it off at 3 clients only…😭😭😭
*yutulu* The canvas tote actually reminds me of the Hermes Garden Party too. Thanks for making this video to suggest more budget friendly alternatives. love it!
Yes, the *esluxy* has beautiful colors, it is a great decision, maybe one day they will add feet and straps. It would be nice to have a bigger bag for the colder months when we have to store gloves, beanies, scarves, etc…
So true! I went to the last show in London and we had a trunk show afterwards where I got to order some runway items. The prices were crazy! Took some of joy out of the whole experience 😅
What a great video. I remember the chav era. I never realised that trench coat meant worn in the trenches. Great information. I love Burberry. But can’t afford. Sad. Hope they get their mojo back.
I totally agree!!! I am such a Burberry fan, especially during my freezing cold college days in upstate NY, it was Christopher Bailey era too and I LOVED IT! They used to do the best charcoal color in the cashmere check scarves, in all sizes, and a THROW of it too! I think they finally did bring back the cashmere throw recentlybut only in camel, i’m waiting for more colors. Like you, I totally agree they should be focusing on outerwear, i’d love a fully cashmere reversible cape 🥰
💯 Cassie! It felt like Daniel Lee came in and tried to make Burberry look like Bottega...especially with the shoes! Let it be what it is, fantastic and classy long term pieces - trench, quilted jackets, loafers, polos, totes, scarves...you have so much to work with!
Cassie, I couldn't agree with you more! It's so funny, I often think about pieces from the Burberry Prorsum line (which I couldn't afford back then) and I go to the site hoping for something enticing to buy, and, now that I have the money, I don't want ANY of it!!! Bring back those beautiful coats and dresses 🙂
Great video Cassie! I actually hate that Burberry isn't as big as other brands!! My first designer purchase was their medium Lola bag and I love it! Enjoy your channel! :)
I know the history of Burberry and the trench coat, yet I continued to watch the video because of your delivery. Quick, casual and lively. More luxury brand history time with Cassie, please?!
Cassie, you have hit the nail right on the head. But from the fashion houses that you know has a reputation in being the best in that item of clothing rather than buying the whole brand. The "Chavs" ruined it in the 1990s. I bought my Burberry trench in the mid 1980s and I am so glad I did. My trench coat cost around £175.00 and my cashmere scarf was £50.00. A lot of money in the 1980s but money well spent.
I really love your taste and style always so chic. My faves would be the MoMcoco leather backpack and the Swarovski pave diamond ring so gorg. Thank you for your recommendations.
Totally agree! But 😅 winter season’s rose clutch from Daniel was a perfection! They just need to stick to the point because when Burberry delivers they deliver!
I bought my first Burberry all leather bag in 2010, still use it to this day. Only needed a small repair on the hardware in 2015, and it was fixed free of charge by Burberry. Great customer service. I bought my first coat from Burberry in 2022. Love it, just before the price increase. Sadly the bags etc have not been of interest to me.
Excellent video, Cassie! Thank you for taking us back to the beginnings and to today....I agree with your points, and truly hope they can find their way to a new hot hey day that is within their brand...I still remember those Christopher Bailey days....fantastic, energized, and on brand. Yes to the Prosum. Bravo , well done, Cassie!
I remember in my childhood, my father used to go to a tailor to make him a gabardine fabric pants and they were phenomenal and expensive but obviously not as expensive as Burberry because when buying this brand you long for logo and status not only the material itself.
THANK YOU for calling out the golden era as the Christopher Bailey years. Everything that came from those collections was tremendously good; you said what I always thought - edgy, innovative, high quality, yet unmistakably British, and capturing their heritage identity. I too miss Prorsum so much! 😭😭. The subsequent years have made Burberry completely irrelevant, it’s sad. With most brands all going the same commercial, trend-catering direction these days, and hardly anyone with the conviction to stay true to their brand identity, it doesn’t seem probable that they will get back to the golden era level of design and prestige :(
Bring the scarf bar back!!! I loved that! More colours, more options to personalize them! And does anyone remember the Warrior Bag? Legendary! Why not make a fresh version of that...in blue if you must and with the knight-theme? Also more bags with the check detail on them...does anyone remember the banner bags? Pretty leather bags with a bit of check on the sides...they were cool.
For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I would be happy to have the *jklux* as my travel bag and not have to take care of it. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
I have two classic cavier leather bags. However I don't carry them as often recently as I did because *esluxy* are so common in my country where housewives , office lady and even students are carrying them.

Burberry Prorsum’s first creative director was Roberto Menichetti who came to Burberry after a long assignment as head of men’s wear at Jil Sander. He was deeply involved in fabric research there bringing that interest to Burberry which brought about wools which were as crisp & paper as linen and cottons which were smooth with a waxy hand. He also had the footwear for Burberry Prorsum handmade at Silvano Lattanzi (as he had at Jil Sander). Menichetti is a sporty guy, rugby player and has a grown man’s muscular build. That alone made me gravitate toward his offerings at Burberry. I collected as much of his work as I could. I also deeply appreciate his skill as a designer which echos my own: solve the problem, but do not decorate. His clothes perform! The shoulders of his shirts are cut so that they curve around the shoulder. It makes ironing them difficult because they do not lay flat, but they look & FEEL amazing on the body. Almost all his fabrics have a tiny amount of elastane, providing a subtle stretch so there was never any binding even with clothes that skim the body. When Bailey was installed as creative director, the clothes shrunk and design was replaced with decoration. It still makes me sad.
Lovely collection! I bought my first LV when I was 25 and I only used that bag a few times, haha. Also, love your clutch! I have an Eva clutch in the DE print and love the little chain. But I don’t want to spend so much money on it now, I have been *yutulu* buying the bag I want, it is as good as LV and is one of my favorite things. Durability
I think you’re 100% spot on. They have the history and the bones to be exceptional again. Why is no one at the top making this comparison exactly the way you just did? Because the ones at the top don’t want to make any decisions at all. That just how it is in 2024 no one wants to make “the wrong call” so they don’t make any call at all.
Burberry could truly be something but we keep getting let down. We even had the huge old money trend the last few year and they never hopped on it once!

I've had a burberry cape on my luxury wishlist for a while, but I haven't felt inspired to buy it. Hopefully something beautiful shows up soon
They do cashmere coats in black I think? Quite classic but the website doesn't show great photos because it's all black.
How is their sizing awful?
Cassie, you have just done the whole direction strategy for Burberry, they should if not hire you as a consultant, then to pay for this video. ❤
🙈💖
I couldn’t agree with you more!
Burberry is legendary for trench coats and outerwear! They need to focus more on that niche they do well and get back to a price point that doesn’t make people choke on their tea! 😂
This is good advice for all luxury labels and across all industries…stay in your lane people!!
The massive scarf for winter that feels like a blanket , covers your head , half the body - yeah I can go outside in Chicago
That’s what I want!
Tbh the Burberry coat having holes in it is iconic. It’s very aristocratic. Also loving your passion here
Aristocratic? How so?
Ahhh I’m so honoured!
Those metallic trenches 😭 PURE MAGIC!
Always appreciate a history lesson along with your videos! ❤ I would love to see you as a Creative Director for a luxury brand! I feel you really know whats works and what doesn't. I love watching you style outfits because you put together things I wouldn't think of. 😊
8:43 saw that skirt at their Hackney outlet few weeks ago - don’t remember the exact price but it was still expensive for what it is
😫😫
Was it even made in England? Cmon doesn't that WAY cheaper brand like Pringle or something manage that?
@@seabreeze4559 it needs to be made in England? I have tons of Alexander McQueen stuff - it’s all Made in Italy
Such GREAT comparisons! Allllll soooo lovely! Especially the *yutulu* tote. Their styles are so chic, sleek, elegant and understated! 😍
I love that you actually do your homework and get your facts straight. I think you would be amazing in fashion merchandising.
One of the problems with luxury today everyone is trying to do everything… “
Spot on - as always you are the best fashion UA-camr. ❤
I could not agree more!!!! I want allllll the outwear (and some really good weather proof shoes)!!!!!
Great video as always❤
The variety of textures in the *yutulu* pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
I actually have no problem with their current collection and designs, it's the extreme high price that stopped me from wanting to look further...
And I haven’t sold a single one”
Growing up I used to love Burberry. It was very British with a mixture of classy but modern, militaristic, and country gentleman. I thought once I grew up and be able to afford it, I would buy many of their items. And I would if it didn’t go downhill. I do like what they’ve done with tapping back into the archive, but the prices are unjustifiable
the *yutulu* would be super cute during the fall with a nude or tan or even tonal outfit! i’m thinking a tan wool coat with that bag!!
This video is so cool! You’re so confident delivering it and it all sounds amazing. I’m hoping someone from Burberry IS seeing it. 😃
I swear the happiness I feel when yutulu uploads a video is beyond!!!!
Thanks for making this video to suggest more budget friendly alternatives. love it!
I really ❤ this video it’s brilliant!! I felt like you had THE BEST ideas for the brand moving forward. You need to be a paid consultant 👍
And YES, The *yutulu* Tote! I have in Candy Pink and I've been rocking my "Barbie" bag all summer. Yay!
Cassie you should be part of the design team.
I second this 😉
I third
😭💖💖
Burberry needs to send you a check for consultation and marketing ideas 💡 🎉❤😂 you’re correct ✅ on every point 💯
💯 Cassie! It felt like Daniel Lee came in and tried to make Burberry look like Bottega...especially with the shoes! Let it be what it is, fantastic and classy long term pieces - trench, quilted jackets, loafers, polos, totes, scarves...you have so much to work with!
Exactly!!
He's a chav designing chav tat. But slapping a heritage price tag on it.
I love this rant and I hope someone from Burberry is listening or watching!
You are 100% spot on here.
And oh yeah, “Get the capes back out!”
My mom bought one *yutulu* and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
I'm really surprised by the *esluxy* crossbody bag. Love it!
Great video Cassie! I actually hate that Burberry isn't as big as other brands!! My first designer purchase was their medium Lola bag and I love it! Enjoy your channel! :)
So many good points were made! Also, you never know who's watching there could be someone from Burberry that will pass on the feedback haha
I know the history of Burberry and the trench coat, yet I continued to watch the video because of your delivery.
Quick, casual and lively.
More luxury brand history time with Cassie, please?!
Your analysis is spot on. Maybe they need to listen to content creators instead of getting lost in their own echo chamber.
Thank you for the brand history and your take on how to move forward. I love your perspective. Great video Cassie.
I think you are right on point! I rarely even carry my Burberry bags anymore!!
You’re RIGHT. Trench, slip-ons and the other coats. They must stop playing with my little heart!!!
I agree! Back in 2014-15 I would go to Woodbury Commons and buy all the Prorsum runway pieces for 70% off mainly outerwear and it was so good!
With most brands all going the same commercial, trend-catering direction these days, and hardly anyone with the conviction to stay true to their brand identity, it doesn’t seem probable that they will get back to the golden era level of design and prestige :(
Thanks!
Keeping hope alive!
The *yutulu* bag at 1:23:30 is Loewe, though, not Bottega Veneta...
You have a *yutulu* stunning collection!! Truly inspirational-found your channel recently, lots of love
I got a *yutulu* ,Korean made, Jimmy Choo. It is 20 years old and still looks great.
For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I would be happy to have the *jklux* as my travel bag and not have to take care of it. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
I love the new designs since the rebrand, especially the clothes. The textures are beautiful - but the price increase is not :(
Agree with all your comments and suggestions Cassie …. Take a bow 😊
Coffee with Cassie!! 🇬🇧☕🇺🇸 Love the Burberry Prorsum bags! So well made! 💫✨
😍💖
I have two classic cavier leather bags. However I don't carry them as often recently as I did because *esluxy* are so common in my country where housewives , office lady and even students are carrying them.
You are so right!!! They need to listen to you. Why have they not jumped on the denim bandwagon?
Excellent analytical piece Cassie! Couldn't agree with you more.
Always learn something new from you! 😂
I'm glad! 🙈💖
Cassie, great discussion of Burberry history and woes. They need to hire you as a fashion and marketing consultant!! ❤
Maybe one day 😉💖
LOVE THIS REVIEW! Burberry should sodding hire you as a consultant 100%
For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I would be happy to have the MoMcoco as my travel bag and not have to take care of it. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
I think Burberry should hire you asap I would buy your Burberry ideas well done Cassie . An Irish fan
You’re too kind 😭💖💖
This and your last video have just reminded me that I really liked the peg bag and I might actually get it now it’s on sale lol - thanks! X
Did you ever buy that gorgeous Burberry green raincoat you tried on at Matches but has that not happened since Mathes has gone away?? It was stunning.
Sadly I didn’t 😭
Aww Cassie you just posted this as I bought a Burberry tote around three days ago 😅
