I did this one directly on buttercream but I would recommend to do it on fondant.

Yes but in the box.
Is it better to apply edible images on fondant ?
Yes I would say so.
Where do you buy the wafer patern ?
I get them printed locally.

Hi I use high humidity buttercream. Yes I place my images in the fridge all the time. Just make sure your fridge doesn’t drip water.

How far in advance can you cover in edible images? I have a customer who wants to pick up a day ahead of the party?
Hi I do them the day before. Make sure your refrigerator is cool and dry so no water or moisture gets on the image.

Is the smoothing to prevent the edible image from bubbling? Since it’s on buttercream. I have one to make similar and I’m scared of the paper bubbling up on me lol.
Yes! This for my sister lol if I made it for a client , I would cover the cake in Fondant first. It will be smoother, prevent bubbling and give it a longer time window to sit out on display.
