IKR! Moreover, I love their 'USEFUL UPGRADES' & 'GIVE REAL VALUE' model, rather than Adobe's (pre-subscription days) where they release an update every friggin' year to add useless features just to get you to re-buy.

@@Rivanni Depends on your needs. I like having my software not expiring. And I can still use the old version on other computers! :) I'm also sure that they will not release a new version every year.
So now we have to repurchase the software? This is exactly what they were saying we wouldn’t have to do when we started using it. I get it… eventually you need to get the customer base to buy in again for all the time spent upgrading. Slippery slope going to exactly where Adobe ended up eventually. I’ll end up doing the upgrade and see where it goes. To be honest though, Adobe really got so much better once they started the subscriptions. It enabled them to improve the product to a higher quality more rapidly and consistently. Competition is good for the consumer especially when choices for high quality design software is slim.
@@davidharris3407 Sorry, absolutely not agreeing. Is there a reason to complain for a 7 years (or more) _very_ cheap upgrade? Is 100 euros/dollars every 7 years a problem? :O . Even when they don't force you to, like Adobe does (they even force you have nothing, but just rent) ?. Software versions have existed since the day software started to be developed. I remember this being so back in the 80s and 90s. What do you want them, to live out of ... air? The old system always meant to purchase big integer number versions, upgrades, and they have been generously giving us MANY free version in the middle. That Adobe got better after subscriptions? Extremely debatable, and definitively not the global consensus.
I get all the functionality I need as graphic designer, illustrator/painter and even for texture work for my game 3D art needs. Full time freelancers get so a much, much cheaper suite than Adobe's. And I don't need a ton of the fancy stuff Adobe has been adding recently, but yes the core features in graphic design, image editing, painting and publishing that I get with Affinity's suite.
I bought the whole suite during the pandemics. I had used Adobe previously and honestly I was looking forward to an affordable alternative. The guys at Affinity offered it at a more than honest price and since then I am more than grateful for such a marvelous software at human prices ! Can't wait to try these new mega update. You guys rock and I just wanted to be part of the promo and say THANKS!
Yeah you bought something for a lot of money, now no one with the old version gets updates again. Every new tutorial will have the new tools. This is utterly disappointing. I personally will switch to a cracked version of Adobe CC. I am also stuck there with the current version, but with a much more broader Ecosystem and many more tutorials. Such a waste of money.

I have bought the CS 6 for A LOT of money and all of a sudden I couldn’t use it anymore because of the upgrades that some do and other don’t and Adobe didn’t care to help, so I found a way to keep using their apps anyway. I feel like I am a cow they want to milk endlessly. Totally fed up!

I have nothing against paying for a product (maybe even a little more than usual, if it is really worth it), but then it should be done. No subscription models, no "new innovative update" where you have to pay again. I am so disappointed in Affinity and I feel so dumb that I promoted them when I had the chance to do so.
@Numbnuts you bought a car in 2021. In 2022, the car manufacturer brought out a new model of it. They instantly stopped the support of your car (your car broke and they don't want to fix it). They tell u to F* off, just buy a new one.

Affinity let me cut ties with Adobe and their miserable subscription model after they essentially robbed me of the software I owned outright originally. It's been great using your products and watching them evolve and improve over the years, I was more than happy to upgrade to the V2 suite today. Thanks for all the great work you're doing Affinity team!
I got Photo in 2016 and was surprised I never had to pay for one upgrade. Then I got Designer during the 1st lockdown and it changed my life. I learned to draw because of it and I use it every day now. Going to get the bundle just because you're awesome and I wanted to try Publisher. Thanks to all the Affinity team!
Not paying for minor updates is basically the norm. I can't think of any case where you had to pay for one.
And I mean "minor" in the sense of major update, minor update, and bugfix update. Version 2.8.1 is major version 2, minor version 8, and bugfix version 1.
@@juschu85 you are almost right... with Adobe and autodesk you don't pay for MINOR updates... you pay it every time, updated or not... congrats, you just fool yourself.

I bought Affinity Universal license a couple of weeks ago! I'm so impressed I get an iOS license with it! Thank you for making your product consumer-friendly with an intuitive UI, artist-driven, and powerful and all at a fair cost. I predict Affinity is going to dominate the market for years. Also, I'm glad to be Adobe-free, free of Adobe's toxic monetary scheme and ridiculous bloatware. Consider me a new Affinity die-hard fan.
Ok, why there is not an upgrade price version from 1 to 2? Every software i own have this option, it,s a great way to care about loyal customers.
Well we tried our best - the 40% discount was what we wanted to offer existing customers. Fact is though - considering so many purchases are done through the App Stores - Apple do not offer any upgrade mechanisms. So the only way to do it was a blanket discount. Sure that means some new customers end up getting a bonza deal, but it's more that way round rather that us not trying our best for our existing customers.

Make people verify that they bought V1 and V2 and give them some money back.
Of course, that's more work for you. Okay, so give them a smaller discount so you are paid for that additional work.
Nobody has to use the app store. If people want to do it, fine, but if that is causing problems they have to pay the price for it. For the same reason, I think it would be absolutely legit if you make the apps more expensive in the app store since Apple takes 30%.
You also didn't think about people who would upgrade but don't have the money right now or people who just live their lives, do their work and are not checking constantly if there's a new version of their software.
When those people either have the money or noticed there's a new version, the discount is already gone.
Also, what's stopping you from at least offering a permanently discounted upgrade price for existing customers who bought the software on your website?
Not doing that is like going to a shoe store with your two kids, they both want the same shoes, but they only don't have them in the size of your younger kid. There would be another store that has the shoes the size of your smaller kid, but you don't also want to go to another store. So just to make it fair, you also don't buy a pair for your older kid, even though the store you're currently at has them in their size.
I can absolutely see the problem you're facing here. That's one reason why I hate the whole concept of a centralized app store. But your solution for that problem isn't solving the problem. It's just creating new problems.
Guys, I'm so proud of you and your work! 🙏 I've been using your products since 2016 and they've changed my workflow in a really beautiful and professional way. In between, I was a bit worried about how you build your business model. I was happy to buy the new suite because good software has its value. You have shown with V2 that it is also possible without a subscription model and have implemented great new features that are definitely worth buying.
I advertise your products every day and have met many small and large advertising agencies through my UA-cam channel who use your products successfully for their professional work.

Bought all of version 1 as it was released, got tons of updates over the years for free and improvements, good software at a great price. Really hope Affinity captures more of the creative market away from Adobe. Thanks you!

Wait, so this update costs an additional $99 on top of the $120 I already spent when I purchased these a year ago? Will every version update need a new license purchase? In which case I'll just stick with V1. I think an update price for those who already spent $120+ for each license (and for iPad licenses when they were separate) would be nice...

@Nathan Cunningham come on, with inflation and everything, all prices worldwide are up anyway, they have to survive as well to pay all devs, designers etc of their team, without a subscription model.
@@Larry98 I'd be upset too, there should have been some indication a new version is about to drop or offer some forward protection. Not uncommon in the software world. Maybe raise it with them directly for a refund-repurchase?

Completely switched to Affinity Suite 2 years ago and have never looked back! A seriously outstanding set of Graphic Design Software. Keep up the great work team and look forward to using Version 2 of the Suite and Publisher for iPad as well!
So glad you guys exist i HATE subscriptions on almost everything… “You will own nothing and be happy” is one of those sayings i fear is inevitable but im glad yall are keeping that at bay for the time being. As soon as i saw this i upgraded no questions.

Ok. I am not a fanboy. And I am real. And I had some bad experiences in the past. But you guys from Affinity delivered in the past since I bought Photo, Designer and Publisher and kept updating. And that is the reason why I am happily sending you that universal-order in a minute. You are doing a good job and deserve every success in the world.
Sadly there is no way to upgrade for a cheaper price. Just 4 weeks ago I first purchased Designer, Photo and Publisher.

It feels better than Christmas :) Once again my actual projects will have to take a backseat for a time, while I fan girl away with tutorials and videos. I am not a very pro user, and I am so pleased to see that one tiny tool from my personal wishlist made to the new version - the style picker tool! Thought it was just me being lazy :)
I wish there was a discount for the V1 users that want to upgrade to V2.

Haven't seen any upgrade options. I own licenses affinity photo and designer, both for windows and Ipad. Do i need to buy new licenses to have V2 software or there's an option to upgrade it?
Yeah, they’ve managed to fool a lot into thinking it’s a one off payment then getting them to pay for a new version rather than updating the existing. How many times will they do this before everyone realises they are in a subscription?

Even if they didn't make that clear original purchasers of the Affinity Suite would still have access to the software that they had bought. If this was a subscription you would lose access to that software.
As many of our apps are bought through third party App Stores we do not have a mechanism to offer upgrade pricing. This was why we decided to offer such a large launch discount-to give users an opportunity to upgrade at an incredible price.

@@Affinitybyserif If existing customers want an upgrade discount, they should just verify their V1 purchase and buy the upgrade on your website. That way you would also not have to pay the 30% share to Apple. And existing customers who bought V1 on your website could just skip that verification.

Im glad you add the publisher to ipad. But i need to ask if when i have already paid for the affinity photo app but first gen, do i need to pay for the gen two? Thank you so much for answers, and huge thanks to affinity for their great apps.
I was hoping for a reduced upgrade price, because I just use Designer and Photo (both macos) occasionally. As it is I'll use v1 as long as it lasts and then switch to other programs that fit my occasional needs. I liked it, because it is a professional program, but it has become to expensive for my entry to semi-pro. needs.
But to be honest that itch has been scratched with the universal license plus the 40% off. I'm still paying less than making two months payment on my old Creative Cloud subscription from just over a year back.
@@dilzaaaa That sounds like a heavy user and the offer is clearly aimed towards them. There might be something coming for the others down the line too, like all three for macOS for 90€ and something similar for the iPad users. That would make a lot more sense.

@@raphaelsabitzer The universal license for that price cover all 3 PC apps, 3 Mac apps and 3 iPad apps. And if you're a personal user you can install on all the devices that you own.
@@dilzaaaa 40% off is misleading when the app is now $70 MSRP and it was $50 for years. $20 increase is a 40% rate hike. They are showing the 40% off number but that is reflected off of a $70 MSRP which we have never seen from Affinity in the years they have been in business. It makes some sense for the subset of users that are cross platform but other than that, it isn't quite what I bet most of us expected loyalty pricing to be given the feature set on the table at release time.

Amazing softwares, finally a worthy opponent for Adobe. I cant believe i have never heard of them before. I was just randomly navigating through AppStore when i have found the iPad version. For sure, Affinity Photo is miles better than any other app from the AppStore. Need a app to process some videos, though.

I just moved today from Adobe Illustrator to Affinity Designer and I must say...it's night and day. I love how smooth Affinity is compared to the laggy, buggy Adobe software.
Affinity is FAST and does EVERYTHING Adobe does and maybe better. It's a new chapter for me. Can't wait learning all their software.

Probably, because there is already a discount for everyone.
I scoured the site to see if they did too. But at least it's affordable and not a subscription.
It's been knows for years that free upgrades would only be available for all the versions numbered 1.x until version 2 comes out. I think this is much better approach than the Adobe's way.
You can still be using V1 of all the apps, I guess forever.
But for this bargain price I won't hesitate a second to get the Universal Licence.
And I will keep using V2 with all the upgrades again until V3 comes out. And then I will happily pay again. Seems fair to both customers and developers - they put a lot of work to make all of these apps as brilliant as they are.
It's been stated many times over the years that V2 will be a paid upgrade.

I feel like a clown already as I bought Publisher a month ago in the reasonable expectation that a one time purchase included major updates. Now I have version that is no longer supported and I have to pay extra for update and support. Thats a scam.
@@ikwer111 Ngl just testet Version 2 - there are very little new features with actual impact. that builder tool for example adds nothing new, you already could do that stuff with little efford.
Version 1 got free updates since it was released. Their price and update policies are unbeatable tbh.

I love Affinity! My company gives each of us a robust Adobe subscription, but I only use Affinity for my projects (shhh!). Of course I pay for my Affinity subscription out of my own pocket, but it is well worth it. I will be upgrading to the universal license. Thank you, Affinity!
To be very honest, I'm kinda underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, this looks awesome and is a great step up from what we had previously, but I don't really see the value - 119€ is more than the V1 triple pack cost me, and I already have all three versions. Hoped for a sort of "upgrade voucher", found none. I don't think I'll be upgrading because it wouldn't be worth the 119 for me :)

there are some bugs I found in publisher 2.0 which were quite troublesome, and I report them in the official forum. I'm looking forward a new update
