The rapid rate of improvement from Affinity just from 2.0 to 2.5 has been amazing. Having paid for the bundle for all 3 on windows/mac/iOS, I feel like i got my money's worth at least thrice over.
Downloading and installing new fonts is, for some unfathomable reason, something I have always had problems with but you have explained the process so clearly I don't think I will have any further problems, thank you. The variable fonts do indeed look like a lot of fun.
Thanks for the showcase ! 0:38 I think it is an "OV" button, not "CV", it is just that they put the "v" in front of the "O", "O" for OpenFont, as on the button on the left
There always has been, below the colour palette circle there is a wiggly line which allows you to do quite a lot to the outline from width to pressure arrows and more, but there hasn’t been a toolbar tool you can be specific where the stroke varies 😊😊 at least the iPad Pro app had this and I used it a lot, I didn’t even know there was this toolbar tool until this video which is going to be useful and interesting to play with! 😊😊
great video, as always. On a Mac, you can simply double-click on the downloaded/unzipped font (the ttf or otf) and it brings up an 'install font' window automagically.
oooohhhh.. stroke width adjustment!!!! I'm happy to have the QR code, of course... and the variable fonts... but I think this stroke width adjustment is a game changer.
I've already put the QR Code to good use. My friend is getting married and wanted to put cards on the tables with a QR Code to direct guest to a shared photo album. Thank you Affinity.
I just played about with all the options of the QR code generator and I must say I love it. Long are the days in battling ads or looking for free QR code generators online.
Thank you so much for this review of version 2.5. As always a great and clear review. This is my list in order of importance: 1. Stroke width tool 2. Variable fonts 3. QR code tool Can I ask you, if possible, to create a tutorial for those tools or add them to your online classes? I can recommend all the Affinity Revolution classes, they are very good. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to your next tutorial. Chris
The QR code tool just cleared up two tabs on my favorites bar.. Awesome The strike width tool is great.. But I could already some what do that in the strokes panel graph..
I may be being thick, but I used to be able to search in the help menu and it would give me whatever I needed without having to remember what menu it’s under. Now I can’t search, is the feature gone or is it somewhere else?
I love the QR Code generator. I'm curious if there is a way to customize the looks of it (I used to put a miniature of my mascotte on the code and will like to continue to do so)
The reason I've never upgraded is that Affinity lacks a font-related feature I need. I work in Japanese and English, and when Affinity rasterizes a PDF it is incapable of retaining the Japanese fonts. It's something I've requested, but I doubt this version has remedied this issue. Thanks for your presentation!
Actually you can install a font on the Mac by simply double-clicking on the font file. This with bring up a small preview window with an "install" button. Click the button and the font will automatically be installed in Font Book.
Beware! 2.5 has a bug that does not allow any of the Affinity programs to start in some computers. Continue using 2.4.2 until they work out the bug. Hopefully 2.5.1 will be out soon to take care of this bug.
I was most excited about the bug fixes. 😄Unfortunately, there were no new or updated features in this update that I use for my daily work. A search bar would be fantastic to easily find/filter layers by name, color or type. This shouldn't be that hard to implement, I think.
I'm loving this! awesome stuff! would you guys ever consider a tool that helps us turn our ink drawings into a vector? I know that there are ways of doing it in other places, but it would be sweet to have a way to do it within the Affinity suite. you guys are amazing! thank you
I love stroke width tool!!! I only need smooth tool, i cant wait to see it in the toolbar.I hope we cant have it in the next version of affinity designer.
"Variable" fonts? Sounds like what Adobe was trying to do with Multiple Masters in the '90s. The QR code tool looks really useful. I hope the stroke width tool will allow me to change widths uniformly across the entire line.
The QR code generator will definitely be useful!
I design landing pages around QR codes as it is now. I wonder if two tools are compatible....hmmmm
I'm not seeing a qr code precision feature. Has anyone seen it on there?
Finally a stroke width tool. I’ve been waiting for this. Thank you for going over these changes with the version releases. It’s really helpful.
100% agreed!
Like How would you add Width to your strokes before this ?
I am Inkscape beginner though.
You can change the width of the stroke in properties. Nothing new in this.

I also feel the same! So much better package than adobe's subscription model

Ohhhh, that makes sense! Thanks for letting me know! 😅
Thank you very much for freeing us from Adobe
In-built QR codes and STROKE WIDTH!! I've been waiting for these two for s while
The variable fonts look good. They remind me of the old Multiple Master fonts Adobe introduced in the early 90s.
Just yesterday I was thinking, why on earth there is no stroke width tool in Designer :). Great update, thank you!

Great video and I loved the honest lil giggle when you played with the bounce on the variable font.
On Windows you can right click on a font and select "Install Font...", without having to search for the correct folder.
Your tutorials are wonderful. Love all that you do. Thanks
Finally, variable fonts option is a long awaited one. We are grateful.
The QR code generator is amazing !!
03:57 correction for Windows: just double click on the TTTF. And the font will install itself. Not any need to open folders, transfer files etc.
The QR code along with the customizable options is amazing!
Thank you Ally! I get so excited about the Affinity updates and your videos are very helpful!
Finally QR codes. The next feature I want to see is the ability the make fill-able forms. I still create fill-able forms in PagePlus X9.
Thank you Ally, that was very informative. Much appreciated.
Easily the most helpful Affinity channel on the planet! I’m not even a designer (of any kind)! ❤😊
Wow, thank you so much! 🤗
Just dumped Adobe Photoshop and moved to Affinity. Best decision ever!
PAW-SOME! 🐾 Love the QR Code tool addition!! Thank you
Thanks for breaking it down for us - love your videos!
That stroke width tool is great. I always feel like you can't do much with the pressure, without a pen.
*As usual* - briefly, understandably, in pure English, there is nothing extra in the video. Thank you for the update instructions.
Hype for Publisher🎉
Thank you. It is much more fun to listen to you than to rtfm!
Thank you very much for this video, Ally, LOVE the stroke width tool! 😍
Finally some useful changes. Thank you for this video. Greatly appreciated.
great video, as always. On a Mac, you can simply double-click on the downloaded/unzipped font (the ttf or otf) and it brings up an 'install font' window automagically.
Thanks Ally. I find all of these new tools extremely helpful!
Those loook so amazing! Going to definitely use them!

I've already put the QR Code to good use. My friend is getting married and wanted to put cards on the tables with a QR Code to direct guest to a shared photo album. Thank you Affinity.
Super, super - thanks Ally - more useful tools, again! :)
Stroke width tool is very amazing!
Thanks so much for your video! Now I am even more in love with my Affinity. 🥰

Thanks Ally. Very clear and useful as always 🙂( the giggle made me laugh as well).
bonjour, j'attends avec impatience de nouveaux tutos d'affinité photo, merci
They haven’t let me down❤
Variable fonts look cool. Quick way to add some style to shirt designs.
Thank you for the concise tutorial. Love your videos. Thanks
YESSS! The width tool!
Another really useful quick tips video. Thanks Ally 🚁⚓
Wow, the QR code generator is an awesome addition.
Nice and concise. Thank you.
Seems like anything Affinity does is amazing
The width tool is great but I really want a smooth tool. The smooth feature isn't effective enough.
I'm here from the Canva Create workshop - I love this
Děkuji za velmi užitečný tutoriál, generátor QR kodů se bude hodit.👍
bought it recently and i literally have no regrets.......editing power let's goooooo!!!!!!!
The QR code tool just cleared up two tabs on my favorites bar.. Awesome
The strike width tool is great.. But I could already some what do that in the strokes panel graph..
QR code が作成できるの良いですね。ありがとうございます。
Excited for the stroke width tool! I picked up the same pen you use based on your recommendations lol
That's awesome! I hope you enjoy it 😊
WOOWW Thanks for this!!
Thank you Ally .
Great update - thanks.
I'm just happy there's an alternative to Photoshop.
Thanks very much!
I really love this design software, it's my favorite!!! and I loved the new features!!!
👏👏👏
Great video - thanks
they also made adjustment to the pencil tool and when you import files like from AutoCad that have less node and the lines are smoother
Thank you so much, Ally. That was really helpful!! I'm anxious to try the QR Code tool.
really good stuff
Nice overview except you haven’t mentioned the improvement to the pencil tool. Which actually makes it usable.
[Windows] You can just right click on the font and click "install". No need to find the folder to drag and drop.
I may be being thick, but I used to be able to search in the help menu and it would give me whatever I needed without having to remember what menu it’s under.

thank you.
Will download after watching thanks, no favs like them all! GB :)
Since Canva took over Affinity, it is good to see that they have not messed with the progress of the Affinity software.
Thanks.
yepp variable font F yeahhhhhhh!!!!!

NEAT!
Beware! 2.5 has a bug that does not allow any of the Affinity programs to start in some computers. Continue using 2.4.2 until they work out the bug. Hopefully 2.5.1 will be out soon to take care of this bug.
Some really nice updates. However, disappointing they didn't take much of the feedback in the beta on the line width tool. So many bugs still 😞
I hope they add column rules soon! I use columns a lot
For someone who just uses Affinity Photo, do you think it's worth the cost to upgrade?
Comon man, it just 50$ This is a full Photoshop software, not just a cheap App
Thanks again
Great video. It's just a sad that you didn't take a closer look at the new pen support.
Very nice.
Can't wait for the subscription update.
Thanks of this!
Thank you so much for sharing new feature information.
I am a Affinity publisher lover
Affinity publisher have any new feature❓
Take that qr code tool Adobe - this is how it should have been.
I was most excited about the bug fixes. 😄Unfortunately, there were no new or updated features in this update that I use for my daily work. A search bar would be fantastic to easily find/filter layers by name, color or type. This shouldn't be that hard to implement, I think.
Go go go!!!!

I hope you will soon publish a way to have for shapes for fonts. I'd like to do something like the logo of the band Alabama.
To install fonts on Windows, all you should have to do is right click with your mouse and install them from the pop-up menu.
On Windows you just right click the font file and choose "Install". 😉
Awesome!
Thanks for the update :) So, variable fonts only works on... variable fonts? We can't play around with fonts in general?
Three things for Photo? I'm, well, underwhelmed
