  • As our channel has been growing, so have the requests for Redcat Racing product reviews. We admittedly don’t have much experience with Redcat’s vehicles, but that just changed! RC Driver was lucky enough to secure one of the first Redcat Racing Gen8 Scout II scale trail trucks for review. We’ve seen a number of good reports about the Gen7 truck so of course the Gen8 has captured our interest. But this truck is a bit different. It was designed from the ground up in the US unlike Redcat’s previous offerings. It looks like Redcat is really coming on strong and this new Gen8 is turning heads. The truck has a licensed International Harvester Scout II Body and Interco Super Swamper tires. It has portal style axles, metal frame, full ball bearings, waterproof electronics and many cool features. Like what? How about NO BODY CLIPS! Greg went full tilt on this review and gives you all the details you need to know about it. Plus there is plenty of action and of course his final performance thoughts. Are you a Redcat fan or just plain interested in this new scale trail truck? Sit back, relax and get all the info you need from this review.

Tosfabu Thanks! An all encompassing video is not easy. Some people just want action and some want to know all they details before they shell out their hard earned cash. I’ll try and do the time key going forward. At least for the long videos.😊

I fully agree! A very thoughtful, thorough, and detailed video. I really enjoyed how the essential parts of the vehicle were broken down and shown.

Hard plastic front grill and lights, hard plastic rear light lenses, velcro body mounts, inner fender wells, side rock sliders, floor boards, portal axles, spare tire with mount choice, winch mounts, tow hooks, all metal shocks, multiple shock mount points, low cg battery position, chassis mount waterproof server with metal arm, all metal links with adjustable toe, reinforced body with wheel arches, lockable slipper clutch, mod 1 gears, steel axle and portal gears, aluminum spools, metal axle covers, 47' steering, true bead locks, Interco Super Swamper tires, the list goes on and on for ridiculously cheap. It's setting the bar. Shut up and take my money.

I like when people make a detailed description of an rc car and one of these persons is you. So after i have see some of your videos, i must say that you are one of the most best rc persons i have see. I learn everything about this car and from some other cars from your channel, so i don't have something to ask , you have cover me in everything. We need rc persons like you.

Look it, body lines too, to divide the actual body panels like a full size vehicle. The one thing I had a hard time getting past on the Traxxas Bronco, no body line indentations on the lexan body. Good job Redcat!! Nice job on the video and size comparison at the end 👍👍

AWESOME Review!! I have a Redcat Gen7 Pro and have loved driving it for over a year now. Everyone's biggest complaint on the Gen7 was the steering and it looks like Redcat has listened and addressed it. The portal axles will be available for upgrading your Gen 7 very soon. Can't wait to try them out. I live over in NY and would love to come drive with you some day.

Wicked review on this rig, well done all round! I know Redcat had sent out portal axle kits to guys for the Gen 7 but it was the same diffs that are on this truck. They tested them, had all sorts of issues & breakages, Redcat made some extremely good (imo) changes to the design & reissued parts to further test. They "seem to be" holding up on the Gen 7's so I'm thinking the ought be great as standard diffs on this new Truck. Otherwise ya'll ain't wrong, it's a sweet looking rig & the price is great!! I am seriously looking at one, but as I rarely buy manufactured trucks, I'm going to save up & keep watching very closely to see how the Gen 8 stands up before I pull the trigger.

YES! Death to body clips! They have been taking notes without a doubt. I really like it! This is what the scale crawlers have been needing for awhile. comes with the right amount of technology and scale looks for a builder or someone new to the hobby. Only a few things that I didnt care for that are minor. No spot for a lanyard to clip to the radio(at least from what I can see. As a crawler, i like being able to drop my radio and catch myself or my rig without worrying about dropping my radio on the ground. Also, id love to see it without the windows painted. I am curious why they went with a 17t motor, im assuming its geared quite low. Id love to get behind the wheel of one of these beautiful machines! Great job! The scale details are well done.👏 Im genuinely impressed.

Honestly I think I would have been happy with either of those purchases, but we'll see how this one goes. In the end, I didn't want to buy shorty batteries as a further investment, and body style also edged the Redcat.

Not complaining a whole lot about this rig. Near as I can tell, Redcat did a remarkable job in design, material and minimal compromise for the $$$.
Got four on back order for my group and have plans that we have to run them stock until things start breaking. So should get a good comparison for durability and driving style.
I can tell that the review was done in the cold, memory foam, that was one of my dang it moments. @23:40 Experience has taught my group that we start losing noticeable tire contact when temperature starts dropping below 45 degrees, if it wasn't for the tire themselves, may as well run plastic tires.
The spare tire was a surprise, not sure that I care for the mounting and see that this will pose the same problems that the TRX-4 Defender has when it comes to snagging it on steep entry and exit angles.
People will complain about the windows of course, but I would rather see those than no interiors.
The body didn't flex as much as I expected when you popped the body off. Going to irritate the OCD, when putting the body on though, trying to get it aligned perfectly back on the chassis.
Servo winch spot, that was another nice surprise.
I knew about the shackles and here we go, hate it when the shackle is so tight that it doesn't move freely.. a little fitting work to do but not complaining.
Do we really have to go there.. stock steer servo, I thought it was the same one as on the Gen7. Yes its got enough torque but out of the two in the group.. both quite working with less than 20 miles of running. Metal servo horn, that is great news though.
Thanks for the review, and I am not feeling like I need to cancel the back orders.

Greg, Thank u! I've been waiting to see a running video on this one n someones first thoughts on the rig n if its as good as its all hyped up to be. Great unboxing n test run, im still on the fence with this one, I like it mostly for the portal axles, but I do have a TRX4 kit that has them too. I think ill wait a bit n see if these things r gonna last n if they r worth it. Thanks for sharing bro Happy Holidays!!

Joel Sanford or at least a removable top like my dads scout one day. We jumped a hill at the gravel pit in snow roof flew off we went back toed a rope to it and he pulled us around the field the scouts were made from iron nothing wore it down just father time!

NmRcTrailingNOutdoors awesome story for the memory books! Thanks for sharing, my old friend grew up with a half cab, it had a ratchet strap wrapped around the frame up and around the floor board holding up the flint stone floor boards 😉 we would chainsaw new trails in his fathers backwood lot throughout the summers in high school. The old Dana transfer case and axles would get you through just about anything 😁 Have a good new year !!

A crawler is definitely my next rig. I have a short course a monster truck and a touring car. I just can't decide what brand I was leaning words axial just for the aftermarket support but I like the trx4 and this is a cool rig too.

Great video. Looking at grabbing one of these models. What battery did you run in it? Thanks.

I built a Rubicon out of an axial AX10 years ago (my avatar) and made velcro body mounts. It sure looked cool and worked great. A lot stronger than this one. So this can be fitted with heavy duty velcro. Great video here!

G'day, i gota say ive been looking at getting a trail truck, but all i saw was mid to high $$ stuff. Recently i found out about Redcat Racing and after a few reviews, i gotta say mate Redcat is the AMD of the RC Crawler industry, and if i had the $$ i'd like a Gen-7 pro. Gen-8 just to expensive for me. Cheers for the in depth reviews.....From The Land Downunder!!

That drop in the battery tray looks big enough for the warn winch controller box has cutouts on both sides for wires

The size of the drop in the battery box is 50mm x 40mm x 10mm so there is room for the Warn controller box. You can also use a small Lipo battery in that space for your lights or other things.
