  • Rain or shine, ‪@AncientAdventures‬ and I are hunting somewhere. With a spot as epic as Sloth Party, if we can possibly dig for fossils there we are. We showed up to check to see if they drained it and they did so we had the green light despite the rain that conveniently started falling as soon as we parked. Anxious for the opportunity to find a megalodon tooth, we gathered our gear and hopped into the pit. In no time our shovels were slinging slop that got sloppier as the evening went on and the rain continued to fall. You know how dirt and sand mix with rain - it was a new level of filth in no time and even though I found teeth I didn't take my phone out to avoid the destruction of my only connection to humanity. It is better to recover and film later than never to recover or film at all!

My dad and I are planning to go down to Summerville at some point when we can afford to. If you were our guide, it would be an honor.

i don't guide tours, i'm just an amateur collector who likes to share my passion for collecting here. there are lots of people around town who do lead tours though so you shouldn't have a problem finding a guide who can take you to a good spot. look on instagram for options. thanks for watching and for your comment!

Me and my friends hunt a lot in the Summerville area, we’ve found a lot of teeth including some megs. Do you have any suggestions on where to hunt around Summerville? We’re in search of land sites and creeks but never find any good ones nearby

Summerville is great but the spots get a lot of collecting pressure. you should extend your search outside town limits. The fossil bearing formations are present all throughout the lowcountry.

What is the makeup of their teeth, is it bone? Is it calcium? I know they don’t have bones. I love watching your videos but you know that.

the process of fossilization replaces all organic matter with minerals over thousands of years. when that is finished the "tooth" is a rock with the same general makeup as whatever was present when the fossilization occurred. thank you for watching and for your great question!

@blackriverfossils I gotcha. See I love finding teeth on beaches but there always little and I see people digging in creeks and stuff finding huge teeth and I really wanted to try it
