Quick lesson to find out which syllable is the stressed one. There are a lot more grammar rules and exceptions but I'm keeping it simple (believe it or not haha). And to the people who reply to this, do not complicate it. The point to help them try to figure out how to pronounce basic words and not teach them things even a lot of Brazilians don't know. The rule of thumb is, if a word has no accents on it, then the second to last syllable is the stressed one. So it's "a-va-nhan-DA-va". That's the standard syllable stress. Examples: cai-pi-RI-nha ca-CHA-ça fei-jo-A-da res-tau-RAN-te (restaurant) i-ta-li-A-no (Italian) If any other syllables are stressed there will be an accent on the vowel. The accent will indicate the syllable stress and the vowel's sound quality (ignore the latter, it's advanced pronunciation). The accent/vowel combinations are: Á,  and Ã/ É and Ê / Í / Ó, Ô AND Õ / Ú (no need to memorise this, if you see an accent, stress that syllable) Examples: CLÁ-ssi-co (clasic) CÂ-me-ra (camera) ma-ra-ca-Nà (Maracanã stadium) ca-FÉ (coffee) GÊ-ne-sis (genesis) ÍN-ti-mo (intimate) TÓ-xi-co (toxic) CRÔ-ni-co (cronic) NÚ-me-ro (number) If a word ends in ÃO or à but it also has another type of accent on a previous syllable, then the previous syllable becomes the stressed one. Examples: ÓR-fão (orphan) Í-mã (magnet) Fun fact: as kids, we learn to tell which syllable is the stressed one by calling it like we're calling someone we see out in the streets. So, avanhanDAAAAAAva. But that works mostly for native Brazilians as we speak with a certain intonation that is different from English speakers. Cute fun fact: again, as kids, we learn the words AVÓ (grandmother) and AVÔ (grandfather). Ó has an open sound like the -augh- in "caught" and Ô has a closed sound like the -o- in "abode". To remember which is which we are told that the Ó of grandmother has a hair clip and the Ô of grandfather has a hat.

Wow, your apartment is super expensive, especially for Brazilian standards and for how small it looks. You're definitely paying more for the location than for the apartment itself (that's a great neighborhood). Fun fact, I know exactly where that is because one of my best friends used to live just down that street, so I'd always play on that water fountain. And by the way, that AvanhanDAva (the DA is the stressed part) name is just one of thousands of place names with indigenous origins, so that's why it's kinda hard even for Brazilians to say it. São Paulo has those everywhere, like Ibirapuera, Tatuapé, Anhangabaú, etc. Also, to this day it still surprises me when people freak out after seeing an electric shower. Having grown up around it, I never really knew anything different and didn't know it was not the norm. 😂 That restaurant made my mouth water... It reminded of another restaurant I once saw where they would cook the pasta inside that wheel of cheese and then as the cheese melted it would become almost like a sauce in the middle of the pasta strings. That was insanely good. Anyways, happy birthday!
Happy Birthday Steve! Not sure why one of the folks commented in a recent live video you guys did, that Steve was hyper? I certainly do NOT think so. I think Steve has GREAT POSITIVE energy - a wonderful person to have around. And Ivana, you have a beautiful smile. Keep safe you two, and enjoy yourselves!
Guys, few things I'd like to tell u: The eletric shower is one thing that we totally would like to have the same kind of the north contries have, and some places here even have this, but some how, is a bit expensive for us yet, so it is a lot more comum this eletric kind. Also, São Paulo has this kind of rainner weather in the summer or when the summer is not rainner is very hot, I really think u guys would not take the hot weather, is pretty hot. At last, I wish I had knowing u guys early, cause I'm from São Paulo and I'm an History teacher as well, so I could had u guys a tour around some historic neighborhoods here and São Paulo just because I like to do this. To bad u guys already left. Safe travels!
I've used many times the gas heater in the shower in Europe and the USA and it's not really good 'cause in most of them the warm water just ends after people use it. So if you are the last to take a shower to bad but you will have to shower in the cold. Because of this I would take the electric shower (which is completely safe by the way) any day to the gas ones in Europe/North America.
@@clz__7647 yes that's true, my brother has one in his house and it's amazing. I was just answering the comment because a gas shower is not necessarily better (or safer) than the electrical ones.
@@clz__7647 And I can guarantee by my own experience that it's not better than taking a shower while the water gets colder (try washing your hair like that) when it's bellow zero outside. Now I'm not saying gas showers are bad. I'm just saying what they have "on the north countries" are not necessarily better than a electrical shower. And it is completely safe to have electrical showers, only foreigners are scared of them cause they have no idea how it works.
I agree regarding the design, they have squeezed a lot of features into a small space. Speaking as a former electrician, I presume the shower head is fed from a low voltage isolating transformer, the same as most shaver sockets so I would assume it to be safe too. I would assume that there is some sort of cover gone missing that hid the wires. Great place to eat, I'm with Steve on the cheese, difficult to get enough. Great food, lots of cheese great company perfect birthday. Glad you had a good one. I also prefer to eat at the times you did.

The rule of thumb is, if a word has no accents on it, then the second to last syllable is the stressed one. So it's "a-va-nhan-DA-va". That's the standard syllable stress. Examples:

The accent/vowel combinations are: Á, Â and Ã/ É and Ê / Í / Ó, Ô AND Õ / Ú (no need to memorise this, if you see an accent, stress that syllable) Examples:

If a word ends in ÃO or à but it also has another type of accent on a previous syllable, then the previous syllable becomes the stressed one. Other accents will always "out-stress" the à accent. These are not as common though, so no need to worry about it too much. Just remember that all other accents are stronger than the snake accent Ã. Examples:

Also, São Paulo has this kind of rainner weather in the summer or when the summer is not rainner is very hot, I really think u guys would not take the hot weather, is pretty hot.
At last, I wish I had knowing u guys early, cause I'm from São Paulo and I'm an History teacher as well, so I could had u guys a tour around some historic neighborhoods
here and São Paulo just because I like to do this.
We don't. To emit carbon and waste water every single time we'll take a shower? It's better keeping the Brazilian way;
Happy birthday Steve.
Happy Birthday Steve!🎂🎉🥳. So happy to see you enjoying your dinner. The food looks amazing.

Happy Birthday, Steve!
4:10 thats our summer, rain and hot sun basically everyday
Feliz aniversário Steve
Famiglia Mancini Trattoria.... Excelente....
220 volt. No isolation transformer. 150 milions showers in Brasil.
Tudo o que estâo comendo é comum no Brasil, não é comida " estrangeira" para nós.... palmito, vários tipos de queijo, azeitonas diversas não são nenhuma novidade.
love palmito!
Happy birthday! Success for you!
happy birthday
Steve "happy new year of life"..🥂
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday 🎂🎈 enjoy your day!
Omg this apartment is really expensive guys, especially for such a small place 😪 for you to know its the price we would pay for a 3 bedroom nice ap at a good sp neighborhood
é um air bnb na bela vista, com tudo incluso, não se trata de um aluguel, é bem mais caro por essas razões.
@@timmyturner1600 still, too expensive, specially in 2022 where prices in small apartments are going down! really expensive.
@@stephfitti prices are going up with people going back to the offices. And that's a pretty regular price for a nice street in São Paulo. It's the price in any high-standard neighborhood in the city
@@stephfitti They are paying a extra for location for sure. But, while for a Brazilian it is expensive, for someone coming from a strong currency fiat, that extra may be worth because it's not that much extra for them and the experience can be nice.
You have to compare with other short-term rentals, not long-term rentals. They're not here for that long.
Happy birthday! 🎂🎁🎊🎉
Parabéns para você!!! Muitas felicidades!
As an Italian, we never use the spoon to eat pasta, it's something fancy Brazilian restaurants made up haha 😆
well I never saw an Italian eat pasta with fork and knife
@@edudasoares O certo é usar apenas o garfo.
@@autumngirl5194 verdade, mas a colher costuma estar lá (com o garfo) para o cliente misturar a massa com o molho e queijo já no prato. Isso alguns italianos fazem também.
we were practically neighbors! So sad that you two are leaving tomorrow/have left already :/ Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip (besides Rio de Janeiro, probably all the next cities will be less dangerous than SP). Excited to see your next videos!!
Happy Birthday Steve, once again hahah hope you had a great time in São Paulo, and I’m sure you will enjoy the rest os Brazil, you guys will always be welcome.
It was so nice to meet you, friends for the whole life.
I'm glad you liked our country! Brazil is a country of continental dimensions, try to know other regions of the country, you will also be very well received!
I miss that place! I went there almost 5 years ago when visiting SP. Glad to know they kept the quality high up!
