- The KOVAL EVO is one of the most successful roll racing cars in Australia and has seen a few iterations, owners, and a couple of catch cans over the years, as well as 80-90PSI of boost and up to 11,000rpm.

At GTR Fest, where Andre pretty much only looked at EVOs (he knows his type) we caught up with Dom Rigoli of Tony Rigoli Performance (TRP), a world-famous in Australia full service workshop with a proven history of getting incredible power out of many platforms including this venerable EMtron controlled 4g63.
Dom's answer here are short, sharp and accurate covering a range of topics from dry blocks, billet vs cast, head cylinder sealing with bronze aluminium rings aka fire rings along with some insight into what a car like this might do if it was fully setup for drag racing rather than the street too.
Previously, the car had made 1200hp at the hubs but now pushes over 1500hp and uses methanol or ethanol blends depending on the legalities of the event/location with 8.8 passes so far and plenty more to come if the owner wants to upgrade the car to safely compete at 1/4 racing, which are requirements that differ from roll racing events.

This definitely is bad to the bone racing. Dom is a genius and really knows the 4G63. Wishing him every success. This was a top interview Andre, thank you for this.
“That’s correct.” 🗿
Legendary 💀
😂
Love the willingness to share knowledge.
Lets not forget HPA asking all the right questions. Thanks guys.
This guy had so much info to share 😂
Short, sharp and accurate 😉 - Taz.
me in school, nervous, called upon blackboard to say stuff from last class lesson
Great interview and Dom is a character with great knowledge and very open about the car that does alot of chopping, wish him well with success because he certainly knows his stuff !!
Lots of good info to learn from, thanks very much
Y’know
Great interview as always Andre, and in all honestly I really liked Dom’s concise way of delivering info. Profound knowledge but easy to follow!
That was a great interview. Wild car!😂😂😂
🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼🍀☮️
Install the sleeves 0.5 mm taller than the deck of the block. Redesign the block and cylinder bolt holes to accommodate larger, stronger head bolts. BME aluminum rods for the win. Much respect for running aluminum rods, definitely more frequency of maintenance than steel/titanium. Use those big V8 engines and use half . Two for one engine block. Don't listen to me. the last sentences are jokes. 😂 stay blessed, awesome coverage, Boss Taz (my bad, i meant, Boss Andre)🤙🏽👍🏼
Andre your interviews and podcasts are very well done with tons of useful information i thank you very much! How can i ask about idle ignition timing such as when is too much idle timing?
I love the catch can into cath can into catch can setup.
I believe that TRP built the backyard ae82 race car.
I'm building an EVO1 7-bolt right now. ARP supplies washers for the their 8740 head studs that are smaller than the 7/8 dia OEM ones. I'm going to fit the maximum diameter washer, about 0.980. From my math the stud isn't the limiting factor in holding down the head, it's the aluminum of the head under the washer. I wonder how much stud stretch occurs compared to head flex and how each contributes to pressurizing the coolant jacket.
This man gave away too many secrets
Sharing information is what grows the scene
@@ragingslav It’s nice to have the edge
it pushes people to continuously improve.@@Jamxknife
that little bit of info was nothing for a guy like him, and the success that workshop has had
@@slow26gtr I'm sure its one of those things where the car's just been so dominant for so long they just don't care
Sick video guys 🥳
I think at one point Andre was asking question for himself 😂😂. amazing info as always
True died in the wool club racer. "We could go faster but were not allowed"
No safety equipment 👌
Imagine that in the UK. Clerk of the course would be having kittens.
Probably still not happy about it there but until you break out you haven't done anything wrong yet.
The rules for safety in roll racing are more relaxed however for better or worse - Taz.
Hhahahahah you can still rev it but knownone there absolutely killed me
@hpa101 What type of ignition setup is used here?
Basically, just send it!
I really wish I could hear that thing screaming- great interview regardless
UA-cam Koval Evo and plenty will come up
❤
Do you still have your Evo Andre ? If so can you do a video showing it ? It would be cool to see everything you had back when you raced it
He does but sadly she's engineless as that was sold some years ago. We do have the parts to build one for it, had hoped 2023 but it's been pushed back a fair bit by the FJ40.
It will never race for a world record again but Andre does want to do a few passes in it again at some stage and we'll film some of that for sure at the time 😎 - Taz.
@@hpa101 would love to see it when it gets revived! Thanks
Would have liked to have heard what sort of cam lift and duration he's running, LSA, and advance or retard on intake and exhaust. What sort of spring pressure that takes on the seat and nose, TI or SS valves, single or duel springs. That's probably all the really secret stuff he wouldn't give away though. Also if he's logging exhaust pressure in some way and the ratio to boost.
Why they don't talk about passes instead of months?, one can do two passes in 12 months or you can do 20 passes in two months 😢
Holy catch cans. That’s just negligent and a fire waiting to happen
They are currently building a AE93. Going to make close to 1000hp at the front wheels 😂
i don't understand why it's being said a car is not setup for drag racing or roll racing, when technically the only difference is launching/acceleration point. both has to build boost, upgrade gearbox etc. Tuning shouldn't be what differentiates from a roll/drag car.
i think he meant in order to push for 7 sec that setup really needs to be in a tube chassis
@@najstephy5565 I wasn't speaking directly at this car was in general he's not the 1st one I heard saying this. You don't need a tube frame car to run 7secs. Factory frames run 7s
Launching is harder on the drivetrain and chassis
@@Ryan-hf9qz so what you're saying is gearbox and chassis strength is what defferentiates a drag car for roll racing car
Catch can
Yes 😂
Thought it made closer to 1450🤔
I think it's over 1500hp according to some other sources. Weapon - Taz.
🤔
KOVAL is cool but its no CampDog
