Overcoming Bad Buys and The Cost Of Doing Business

  • In this video I discuss my current situation involving bad buys and instead of settling for the L (loss), I am going to do everything in my power to turn the bad buy into at least a break even proposition, just as I have in the past. Eventually, we all have to accept and cut ties with a bad buy and take the L as a final and last resort. In the end, we chalk it up as "the cost of doing business".
How do you handle situations where you realize you made a bad buy or when you buy an item that isn't what you thought it was? Comment down below...

Having a bad buy is normal for me. I do not let it "ruin my day" However, like you, I have a limited amount of space for my business. So these long tail slow movers (or non-movers) eventually just have to be donated or trashed.
Example - I have access to quite a large amount of military surplus items. Bought in lots at auction, I have learned that digital camo pants and shirts just do not sell, and woodland camo pants and shirts sell well. Normally, there is plenty of good stuff in the lots to make a large profit. So it's no problem to just throw out the digital camo stuff.
Another Example - I purchased 1,728 toothbrush holders (the travel type) They are not selling. But I only paid $11.00 for all making each cost less than a penny. So it's soon to be a no-brainer to donate or trash them.
    Thanks for a good video!

I would consider a storage shed for the back yard before paying for a monthly storage fee. Can’t help but feel you are spending your profits. You could always sell the storage shed later if not used. 🤗♌️

All dependent on the “bad buy”. I do clothing. I make it a point to source only good items with little to no flaws and if I accidentally do then I list it but it’s always a good brand

Summer slow down means about 200-500 Dollars a day net take home for me. Can't wait till 4th quarter for the 700 to 1000 dollar day average net take home. Just enjoying the summer as best we can right now. No complaints.with your toilet seats, in title use key words retro vintage STYLE color. They'll sell quicker.

I would try to repair something if it is defective or missing a part; clothing can easily be repaired by a good seamstress to the point it looks perfect. If something like a ceramic has a small chip, etc., I will sell pointing out the chip in a photo. Otherwise, donate if useable or recycle it. I love the way you take something apart and sell its parts, Jon. That is ingenious.

If we have inventory that has flaws I lot them up and sell them or if it is not worth it we donate them and write it off at the end of the year........Note: Lotting up lower end or flawed inventory is only done if there is value....9 times out of 10 we donate them and write it off........at the end of the year my inventory waste (flawed, low end and or just garbage) accounts for about 17%.....

I buy in a lot of bulk, but I probably list 99% of my items individually. Even a damaged antique has its price, as long as it’s not a cheap and common item. In the very worst cases, I rebulk the bad items and probably still get a little better than my buy cost on that unlistable 1%.

Can I use my PayPal balance to pay for my insertion fees on eBay?

@@vynilrob9719 when I go into “selling costs” in my sellers account, it doesn’t give me the option to use PayPal. So I would say no. You works have to transfer those funds from PayPal to the bank account on file.

I enjoy hearing success stories from other entrepreneurs. Not everything will ever go perfect. It's how you figure it out no matter what the problem at hand is and make it happen that shows who are smart and successful ones. Never give up on your dreams and you will always find a way to the freedom you seek.

    1. If I can fix it I will. 2, If I can't I'll ask friends and family if they know how to. 3. If unfixable part out what I can. 4. Sort and scrap/recycle. 5. Donate it if usable but I don't want to spend time on it. 6. trash it if all else fails.
edit: I don't keep track of individually bought items if buying large amounts in sales, so I just need to make more than I spent overall and not worry about if individual items were losers other than don't buy again or pay less for them.

If i have a bad buy that I discovered later, depending on the issue I may try to sell it, or if it's too bad I will use it as a learning experience and remember it to watch out for in the future.

If it has value even if less than perfect (or for Parts or Not Working), then list it that way. I would think defective clothing would automatically get pitched. But something that has residual value, then list them, but accurately.

@@joshuatiwari6529 I am very careful when I drive, give extra space to the cars in front of me, drive the speed limit, etc. I you ever eat in your car or have a passenger in your front seat, that is more distracting than this. But thank you for the concern.

Oh wait...now he's gaining speed 😊 either way. Do you know in drivers Ed class they taught us we should be looking in our rear view mirror every five seconds? ( or something crazy like that) Point is the eyes are always shifting all over the place to check your surroundings or whatever. If you fix your eyes only on the road ahead you'll put yourself in a trance. That's not good
