The Book of Bill and also Fionna and Cake a while ago have been such a breath of fresh air. Like, continuation to the story that's clearly made with so much passion, and that also embraces the more mature audience??? It feels like a dream, honestly.
you probably already know this but i'm saying it anyways for anyone that is curious! i have consumed at least 5 different videos in where Alex talks about this, and as far as i know Alex only managed to make his book right now due to luck since the publishing department at disney were looking for something to publish. He pitched the idea years ago when journal 3 got released and it did well, but disney rejected it (they thought the idea sounded too messed up lol), then some years passed and disney contacted him again asking if he was still interested in making the book of bill and he said yes despite being very busy with netflix and other projects. He says that he wants to experiment with as many mediums as possible (which is why the gf comic and the gf choose your own adventure got released, for example! even tho the choose your own adventure was made by someone else cuz Alex was too busy at the time) and if given the chance he would like to make a gf movie, but disney is too focused on marvel and live actions movies, which are much more profitable when compared to their animations series, which is also why gravity falls barely has merchandise such as toys for example, since disney prefers to produce merchandise for marvel and the like.
There has been Ford and bill old man yaoi since the start. I absolutely love Alex saw all that and clearly went "frfr!" And wrote a book about our favorite pathetic scam artist triangle man. Thank you for making a happy video. I need as much hope core as i can get. I haven't had the strength to draw anything in a year. My factory i work at is in negotiations and planing to go on strike, im stressed about it and our union is doing its best to negotiate our future in a time of economic anxiety and mass layoffs. They fired 40 of us and its been a hell of a year. Well know in a few days if we'll be on strike. Our union pays us to picket, they are genuinely life savers. Our post offices is going on strike the same time we are. Ive been feeling crazy upset about making art because "why draw something someone is going to call their one day" and it just feels like im feeding a machine my work for free. And thats already what my job is, basically asking for. I really needed this. Also, the fandom that's possessing me is LMK still. 😅
I really hope the entire animation industry doesn’t shut down, I’d love to have my own cartoon show and it’d be really sad if it did, this stuff is my childhood and my present!
I didn't even know about the book till I saw a ton of fan animations on UA-cam, which just warms my heart. While I know Alex pitched this book years ago, it's honestly perfect timing that it came out now. Also love Silver. He's such a ploppy baby ❤️
You’re so right about all the indie games coming out being incredible. In Stars and Time being the most emotionally crushing jrpg I’ve ever played and possibly the best game I’ve *ever* played, Nine Sols being a great metroidvania with a solid fan community already, Deltarune and Hollow Knight: Silksong being some of the most anticipated games of all time, and all of them are twenty dollars or less. Compare that to Tears of the Kingdom or Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, and it’s pretty clear that indie studios are finally starting to one up AAA games, and im so happy for it.
Actually, if you’re looking for recommendations, play in stars and time. I lose my mind every time I find someone willing to check it out. Fuel my neurodivergence.
I tend to avoid a lot of rants about the animation industry since it's mostly depressing and terrible for my mental health as an artist, which is why I really appreciate videos like these, cutting up the more serious bits with intervals about stuff like the Book of Bill. I also have a hard time buying into doomer mindsets, so I'm glad that more people are talking about and starting to have hope regarding the fact that AI can't really replace artists, and that art will exist regardless of whether or not we're doing it as a job. (Also love the brief mention of Witch Hat Atelier, I've been obsessed with it lately and it fills my artist's heart with joy lol)

Glad the algorithm recommended something good. I've been ootl since I deleted Twitter and don't go social media as much anymore. I heard about the animators striking or unionizing. But I can't believe CN shut down. That's crazy! I had that channel since I could remember. There were really good shows coming from them. And then HBO and WB kept canceling them! Seriously, capitalism hinders us more than it helps us. Also, now this explains why I keep seeing a lot of Billford "Good Luck Babe" AMVs. I didn't know a new book came out. I need to check it out!

Four days late from this video, but I really liked the things you went over this video, even I'm not much of a Gravity Falls fan (although I have watched the show at some point it's very good), but as a animation fan. And since around the end of the video you said to mention any indie animated series we have or know, I would personally like to talk about one I've watched before, and liked to see be a full fledged show. It's a mini series called "Day Job" I found on UA-cam that has a cast of Australian people working at a bowling alley that... Doesn’t have the best conditions who are too over qualified to even work there, so for them to take the job that they do it doesn't make sense, but they kind of have to because money. And paying the bills. Anyways it's mostly a comedy I found on my recommend page that at first I was like "haha silly college aged people working at a job they hate" until the third episode ended up becoming sort of serious and it got me like "damn.... this shit actually compelling". If you want to know who created it, Paul Georghiou is the person who created it I think. I don't know much about the creator but I do know he has a UA-cam account under the same thing, so maybe I'll try searching for him in other places. Honestly a lot of the things discussed in the series, from the three episodes to the (I'm guessing non canon ones from his youtube), are pretty relatable and true for many people, especially young adults. As for my favorite character (although I find interest and likeability in everyone), my favorite character in Day Job is Ivan. I just love him and I always hate how he's given the short end of the stick... Let my minimum wage living fictional guy get a break
THIS IS AWESOME i agree with all of your points!! i refuse to feel hopeless about the animation industry cuz yeah sure its in the dumps right now, but like? as long as we fight back (and we ARE) and stay together as a community, animation workers are gonna get the rights they deserve!!! honestly seeing people speak up against all of this discourse makes me pursue an animation career even MORE so i too can have a voice and kinda pay the deed forward yknow? also, deltarune fan!! god i love deltarune its like one of my longest standing hyperfixations lol

It’s a space exploration game that’s really cool and blends not too hard puzzles with a great narrative. It wants the player to be curious about what to do and where to go
