We have the Jayco Journey Outback 21’6 exact same layout of the Silverline you are reviewing. We love the slide out bedroom it’s the best! 👍👍This is our third Jayco van in approx 13 years of caravanning and we bought the JJOB new and the previous two second hand and they were very well looked after. Good value for money 💰 👍
I’ve had my 2014 Jayco StarCraft outback for about six years. Have yet to have a problem even though it gets used a lot. Just remember to ALWAYS check those lock buttons on the cupboards and drawers before you drive off. I changed mine to latches that catch every time so there’s no surprise. Everything ever built has the potential for problems. Great review 😊😊
Great video, we have a Silverline in this model but a tourer. With the bathroom door the first mod you do is get the small door magnet which stops the door from opening if not quite level.
hi guys, great videos. I recently decided to buy a 2022 Jayco Expanda. It had 2 AGM batteries and 2x180w solar panels. I swapped out the ABMs for Lithium (Jayco system allows that). In a storage area I've installed a Bluetti Solar generator expanded by 2 extra Bluetti batteries. 6kw 72kg and 240v for days and days. I can easily remove these if I want. The Expanda now also carries 4x200w solar blankets that charge the Bluetti...another 18kg.The 2 power systems are only connected through the 240v feed of the Expanda. Cost about $8k all up, it works a treat and I have redundancy for the prolonged off road trips. We went the Expanda for weight and massive floor area with a double/queen bed at each end. On long trips it is important to have your own space to mentally stay well. The 10 minutes setting it up or backing it up is a small price to pay to have a 17.5' van that is longer than a 23' tall van. I'm not a huge fan of the wood veneer in the Jaycos but it's ok, it works well enough. Must stop my jibber, thought you would be interested in this power option. Stay well and travel safe.
I have a paramount expanda second one I have had built this one keeps weight down gives us a bigger van , full van with en-suite , take it everywhere Great value the Silverline for the price
Enjoying your videos but the Silverline is frumpy and the internals reminded me of a Jayco Conquest Motorhome we hired couple of years back. We took it to Uluru and the West McDonalds sadly even on bitumen and minor dirt things rattled and became loose. Loved your Zone escapades, we have been researching them for 2 years and have just placed an order on a 19' Zone Peregrine.
I have a 2020 model, same layout. The newer vans have allot more factory USB outlets and you'll find the fridge is larger. Also the timber is much lighter so thats a plus. We love the electric awning, takes away all the pain !
@@caravansbythecampfire check out the offgrid power system I installed in my Silverline, I’m sure you will appreciate the benefits this gives… it’s on my UA-cam channel
@@craigsolaradventures watched your vid - outstanding system and explanation. Haven’t really seen anything presented in such a straight forward manner. I’m going to mention you on part 2 if you don’t mind, I’ll put a link to that video also. What sort of coin was involved there?
@@caravansbythecampfire no issues with a mention or link, that install is approx 25k. But a large part of the cost is the batteries at 3k each. It certainly can be done cheaper, but the Victron smart batteries are a premium product with outstanding specs.
I’m sure it’d be fine as long as you never take it off the black top Unfortunately the Auckland Jaco dealer over here has destroyed any expectation of after sales service I’m with your Mrs cross it off your lis, it’s not in the league of some of the other vans you have tested I didn’t even go and look at their stand at he the Brisbane show when I was there 👎👎👎 Keep up the great reviews 👍
If you are wanting to off road and off grid I would definitely be looking at Zone or Titanium- have excellent reputations and no issues with dust ingress 👍 keep up the great vids
I saw a 2020 or thereabouts, Silverline when we were staying near the Grampions, Vic. We have a Discovery Outback 2009..love it. We stayed in a private caravan park, off grid down there. A 4klm dirt road to get to it, corrigated and rough. We spoke to the Silverline owner later, as he was parked up nearby, he had owned it for about 2yrs, loved it. It hanled the dirt rd and conditions just fine, (getting to the park). I think your on the right track myself, Jayco.
Thanks for your comments and the info. The van is impressive but not sure about the kind of off roading we like - the beach for instance.... more challenging locations - the should make the Silverline in a fully off road version for sure. Departure angles and the lack of underbody protection are a concern. All fixable no doubt - I just love the additional room a slide out provides.
@caravansbythecampfire My younger brother loves his. We have a brotherly competition. " he who dies with the biggest toys wins" I collect my 20.6 Zone Sojourn 28th March. But I am 2 ft short.
Ooo just a reminder about the Zone. You were mentioning the cable and wiring of the jayco. Zone wiring is harnessed and out of view with access points. It's wiring is I believe really well done.
Just curious . You brought the slide out in without lifting the bed ! That is one thing we all Silverline owners have been advised to do before sliding in or out !
Typically all big vans have a queen size bed, they have a bolster that allows you to insert it at the head of the bed, you extend the bed out from the bottom and it turns into king size length or longer.
We discuss this in part 2 - all you do is raise the bed and you can walk past easy. It took me 3 days to work it out!! Thanks for your comment @Mixos_place
I’ve only just started video and I have a question. If you wish to stay hooked up overnight for a quick escape etc the electric slide out doesn’t work? Ok well you can’t get to the loo past the bed. Hmmm 🤔 I see you’ve answered this in another comment.✔️
@@ladysusanjane2682 There was a comment today about that - we were there several nights in the wind and rain and I didn't notice anything at all - first thought of an issue was when it was suggested today. Appears fine.
We have a motorhome with a slide out at the back c/w rollout awning. The noise of the flapping awning is evident when the wind reaches around 40kph. Depending on the angle of the awning to the wind direction you can sleep upto around 50kph. My sister/bro have a Silverline, she says you can sleep in the bed with the slide out retracted so no problem on windy nights.
I will never understand why the slideout needs an electric motor, on this van or any other for that matter. Surely it would not be hard to push it out by hand and save the complexity of the motor etc. Just my opinion.
Interesting - not sure what you are looking to do with your new van?! Are you going off road and off grid? If so then Zone. If it’s caravan parks then yeah the Jayco.
If it wasn't for the outdated interior colours, I would almost consider buying one. That and the outrageous price......come on $100k+ and then extra lithium to run the optional inverter.....you'd be looking at an easy $115k ( I'm sure Craig has done the numbers ).....no wonder you want to buy my Zone.......airbags, more power, better off road ability, nicer interior......shame you cannot get a Zone for under 135k now, but you get a hell of a lot for that.....
Good Luck if you go with the Jayco and want to take it off the bitumen. That’s why it’s called outback because that’s where it belongs, out the back of anything else
if you want to do reall free camping and well off the bitumen then a slidout is not for you. if you want to get off the tarmac please do yourself a favour and at lesdt look at Essential Highlander or Essential C Class off road.....both available in many floor plans and sizes....bright airy modern interiors....

The one thing with the bed is when traveling and you want to use the loo can you get past the bed without having to extend it?

You unplug the power connection from the car, leave everything else hooked up - works then. You can always lift the bed and walk past it easily.
