Been using the P3 for about a month and a half and i am just having so much fun with this camera. DJI knocked it out of the park with the P3 and Action 4.
Re: stabilisation. I use Da Vinci Resolve for editing which - probably not uniquely, features a stabilisation method that is very effective. I currently use the Insta360 ONE and am looking for a gimbal mounted camera hence the interest in the Osmo Pocket 3. I have a trip to Norway in May 24 and want to travel light. I have a Fuji XT3 and the Fuji, XH2S for mainly its video specs. I will take one of those along and 2 lenses, along with the 360 One, and if I decide to buy it, I will also take also take an Osmo pocket three. It is a trip that has been organised by my local Camera club -York Camera Club and our hosts in Norway are Tønsberg Kamera Klubb, so it’s definitely a photographic adventure!
Sounds a great trip headed your way. I use Final Cut but have not attempted to add any stabilization in post for the Pocket 3. As I have shot more footage with it I am becoming less obsessed with the walking motion that I spoke of in this video.
For a smaller channel, you make really great content mate (this video anyway). Thanks for all the work that went into to this. Trust me, I know how much effort goes into good content creation.
Thank you for this real life review. It’s very informative and balanced. Unlike some creator content which shows a very biased approach, which then has to be re- balanced in a later ‘re-think’ video, which is irritating. You have elucidated the real pro’s and cons to a degree that enables me to know what I am getting for my money, and that is very valuable data. 👍🤝
I appreciate your comments, it is intended to be a real life review. I have some update/follow-up videos coming for the Pocket 3 but my overall opinion has not changed since this video was published.
@@ThisIsJulianC I’m of an age where I eschew hype and prefer calm and collected thoughts. I watched a review of the Insta Ace Pro and ended up contacting the reviewer with some observations about his initial comparisons with the Go Pro 12 . It was impatient, negatively speculative and quite dismissive of the Ace Pro. Then 2 months later , the reviewer had to issue a retraction and say that the Ace Pro was better than he initially thought. I commented that it was Not helpful to people wanting a measured assessment . My comments obviously irritated him and he suggested I set up my own review channel , as I’d make £millions very quickly! I responded that I wasn’t the expert, and that this was his claim. So it’s very refreshing to view your review and that which I consider a trustworthy assessment. Keep up the good work!
I just got back from London a few weeks ago and, like you, found myself using my Pocket 3 a LOT more than my big A7RV. It's just so dang convenient and easy to use. And since it rained constantly while there, I used the Pocket 3 in the rain without any issues (except having to the dry the lens a lot). I think it's more robust than they advertise. Not sure if you mentioned it, but you can now pair your Mic 2 with the Osmo Action 4. For vlogging, it's a sweet setup. And just one minor correction, you mentioned "low pass" filter - it's "low cut" or "high pass" (I always get them mixed up too)
I chose not to risk the Pocket 3 in the rain, the rain I had to deal with was pretty torrential first few days of January. Other than that I am delighted with what this can do. I do not have an Action 4 so can't comment on the use of the mic with it.
though one thing i have to react. id prefer there was no software stabilization becuase like the action 4, lowlight and quality has suffered abit due to the software stabilization. id take the pocket as it is for that
I've been using Pocket 2 for years but am being drawn to Pocket 3. The colours looking amazing, did you colour grade it or are they the colours straight out of the camera? Thank you in advance.
I still occasionally use the DJI Osmo action 1. The Rock Steady feature is really good. It's a shame they could not have Incorporated it into the software off the pocket 3. Unless they did not see a need for it with it not being an action camera. I am like you I love bags and zip pouches and hard cases etc
I'm in Thailand and they have loads in stock for some reason, but just the creater combo kits. Thanks for this video and the sample footage, it really helped make a buying decision,
Excellent review Julian. I’ve watched a few videos on the Pocket 3 and this is the best. I’m looking at buying one as I currently have a Dji Mini 2 and Dji in my opinion regarding drones are like Apple, and now they’ve made this. Thank you
I am contemplating buying one before we head to Italy in June, but I am not a big fan of walking around with my arm extended holding a camera. I have 2 action cameras that I strap to my body and my sony a6700 on a hip holster. I like the gimbal idea.. but just don't want to hold selfie stick all day!
I either hold the body of the Pocket 3 directly, or I hold the tripod and extension grip that came in the Creator Combo kit. I find that gives me enough reach without having to use a selfie pole. Enjoy your time in Italy this summer!
Superb! Absolutely superb Julian. Your review is honest, technical & well crafted. I am looking at different blogging tools and honestly cannot see myself parading about with an iPhone on a gimbal. It’s actually a deterrent IMO. I think ease of use, features and portability are the most important. This product covers the bases for me! 😊
I'm going on a 6 week long trip next year to south korea and Japan and wanting to get a decent camera to keep a record of my time there. I've never really recorded like that before so I'm pretty settled on getting a dji pocket because I love how discrete and portable it is. I do absolutely love the new design and upgrades of the pocket 3, but I can't afford it unfortunately so I'm looking to pick up a pocket 2 on ebay if I can. Thank you for the great video though! I do still love the quality of the pocket 2 though!
That sounds like an awesome trip! I can't recommend the Pocket 2, it is quite a few steps below the performance of the Pocket 3. A Pocket 2 creator combo in good condition will cost (US) around $250-$300, for that money IMO you would be better with a DJI Action 4 that will give you better video and audio quality than the Pocket 2 and without the shortcomings of the Pocket 2 as well although you do give up the gimbal. You can use the DJI Wireless Mic 2 with it too. Action 4 currently retails (US) for $299.
@ThisIsJulianC oh wow thank you for the reccomendation! I haven't really heard of the action line before so I'll have a good look into it and see if it's something I'm interested in, thank you so much! Really appreciate this so much!
The sensor has a 9.4 mp resolution which is perfect for video but lower than most cameras today. It's not something I would use for photos, however it does have a good pixel count/sensor size ratio. There are examples of the wind reduction feature on the Wireless Mic 2 in the hiking clifftop scenes. There is some clipping of the audio but I was very impressed with the clarity given the wind strength that day.
Great review, I also have been using the pocket 3 on a daily for roughly 3 months, all in all it is great but has 2 faults which are yet to be addressed. 1. When used as a webcam (On a Mac) the pocket 3 erractically powers down or switches from selfie mode to normal mode. This happens both on intel and M powered macs. 2. The Active track... is not as good as most claim it is. It is ok for moving side to side and normal movement but thats about it. It can't track without failing active movement of a dancer, a boxer doing shadow boxing or anyone doing movements that involve quick changes... the gimbal fails... if I say 90%, i am being very modest! Mind you, the active track issue has being around since the pocket 2 and has still not been addressed by DJI. If you intend to use the pocket 3 to self record exercise workout or dance routines... I personally can't recommend buying it. Other than that it definately raises the bar.
I haven't tried the webcam mode yet and I am a Mac user, I'l try that out. Mines an Intel. Does it do start that behavior immediately or after some time? I'll let you know what I find. Interesting point on Active Track, that it doesn't track fast moving people/dancers/boxers.
Excellent video. I've just purchase an Osmo Pocket 3 so your review is very reassuring. My first impressions (and I'm in UK waiting for the rain to stop so I can take it outside🤣) is exactly what you describe, a beautifully engineered high quality product, incredibly portable and I'm looking forward to taking it overseas (oh got some Freewell ND filters....they're excellent too) on my upcoming holidays to capture moments. Thanks
Glad it helped! I have some Freewell filters now as well (I said I wouldn't get them... but then I did) but I am yet to try them out. Have a great vacation and enjoy your Pocket 3 #thumbsup
Hey Julian, what camera did you use to record your studio parts when you were talking? I like how when you showed the mic, the background went blurry and the camera focus on the object up close.
I do not think this would be a good choice, the zoom capability is all digital, and the zoom range is not very long. So if you are standing by the edge of the pitch it's not going to do much.
Can you do stabilization in post processing (say in Davinci Resolve) to eliminate the bobbing effect and avoid doing the Ninja walk, so the net effect is similar to in camera stabilization like on the Action cameras?
I know I can run post production stabilization in Final Cut, but there is always some cropping of the footage that it stabilizes. I have not tried it with the Pocket 3.
Hi Julian. Great video. I just got back from a trip where I used my DJI Osmo Pocket 3 for the first time for videos and loved using it until I got back to find that about 90% of the mp4 files were corrupted and all footage was lost and unrecoverable. (I could not see the file thumbnails on the DJI pocket, but thought I'd be able to see them once I hooked up to my laptop - not the case). Do you know why that may be? I used the SanDisk card and on the same card, the footage from the first 2 days is great, but then the footage from days #3-7, I'm unable to play even though the SD card is full and I see hundreds of files of different sizes. I used a Philps SD card once the first SD card was full and on that, I was able to record & view my day#8 footage again. I ended up with great footage but even on that card a few (4) files are corrupted. Any thoughts on what might have happened that caused some files to be corrupted and others perfectly fine?
Sorry to hear that. You should be able to watch the video clips on the Pocket 3 so that’s the first sign something was wrong. Could be a number of things. Most likely is a defective or improperly formatted micro sd card. Less likely is a fault with the Pocket 3. Try some different memory cards, make sure you format them in the Pocket 3. If you have the same problem it’s more likely a Pocket 3 fault.
Osmo Pocket 3 is not an action camera, its lack of weatherproofing and more 'delicate' gimbal explain that. DJI Osmo Action 4 is a very capable action camera with excellent optics, if you had to choose one camera as an action camera out of the two you list that would be the one.
I bought this camera with great expectations. But alas and alack I am quite disappointed. The times I wanted to use it I have ended up using one of my insta 360 cameras to nail the video. I recently made a 3000 mile trip to Paris, Strasburg, Karlsruhe Germany, Rheims, London then Brussels. Great opportunty to use the pocket 3 but no, weather was crap and its difficult to mount in a car. So again I reverted back to my insta 360 cameras. I am at loss what I can actually use it for? For ease of use I prefer my insta 360 X3 or believe it or not my insta 360 Go3 which is incredibly good for such a tiny camera. I like my pocket 3 I just need to find a use for it.
The Pocket 3 is not a replacement for an action camera. I enjoy using it for vlogging, traveling, time lapses and low light night scenes. It does those very well but doesn't do some of the other things an action camera can do. So if you are looking for a do-it-all camera the Pocket 3 isn't it. I agree on the GO 3, I can use it easily on a windshield or just about anywhere else. It's not close to the video quality of the Pocket 3 however, it max's out at 2.7k. Same for the X3, after the 360 footage has been reframed it becomes 1080p resolution.
It'd be good if you could show the issue about covering the microphones while holding it without the battery & tripod and also the issue you have with storing the gimbal tin the case that is included, but otherwise good information
I’ll look to add them to a follow up video. The microphones are visible as small holes around the Pocket 3… just don’t cover the holes and you are good 👍
York railway museum…. it’s an outstanding low light camera. For travel, no one needs more than a Pocket 3 and an iPhone or whatever. Great video mate. I’m wondering whether I could ditch my Mac Air and just use an iPad for a complete mini travel setup?
I was in train-nerd mode that day - Mallard, Evening Star, a Deltic... I travelled without a laptop and just had my iPad, worked well for just about everything but I did not attempt to edit or publish any footage with it.
@@ThisIsJulianC I've always carried mine just in my coat pocket. But admittedly, that's partly because I just received the camera less than a month ago, and (being cold here around Toronto in February) my coat has fairly thick, puffy padding! But, once the warm weather comes, I may have to be more protective of it somehow.
Thanks for the info, I have the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo Kit also, I am just starting to explore with it, I plan to travel by train to New York for 5 days and want to capture our entire trip. I purchased a second battery as well, so onboard plus to extended batteries, did you find that the wireless mic battery will last as long as the batteries? I am still trying to get the hang of getting this thing to point where I want it to, seems like it is always pointing in an upward direction.
When you say a second battery do you mean a second extended battery grip? That only adds 60% or so additional battery life, it's very convenient but it's not the best overall battery pack in terms of capacity. The Pocket 3 recharges insanely fast, 15 minutes and I was good to go again (didn't time it but it was in that range). If you are unsure take a USB power bank and you can keep the Pocket 3 charged up for your trip, just connect it to the power bank every so often. The Wireless Mic 2 is officially 6 hours of battery life. I found I did not need to charge it at all when out and about, it will exceed the battery life of the Pocket 3 even with the extended battery grip. As regards direction of the camera, this might be a bigger topic than this reply can provide, as it also depends on what you are doing and which gimbal mode you are in. I generally use Tilt Locked as that gives me movement that I feel is the most predictable for what I am doing. You can also double click the joypad and the camera will recenter. You could take some very engaging hyper lapses on a train journey, and IMO some time lapses too. Have fun and enjoy it!
@@ThisIsJulianC Thanks for the reply, yes I did order a second extended battery grip. But a battery pack sounds like another good option. I will continue to practice and hopefully can capture some good footage.
This was a helpful video. Thank you. I'll be using mine for travel as well. I thought the colors looked good on the video. Did you use Normal color, Log or HGL?
Thanks.. it's a terrific travel companion. Everything was shot in Normal color. After editing the footage I'll be pulling the exposure down 0.3 in future, it does tend to overexpose in sunlight.
I am not very happy with the active tracking, you have to double tap at least a few times over again to activate it and it doesn't take much for it to lose the subject. I have Olympus and Lumix 4/3rds cameras that are much better at the task.
Just ordered mine today, you’ve a great channel and this video brought me to it! As a fellow smaller UA-camr, here’s to a big year in2024 and you’ll do great
Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭 Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I agree that the only down point is that it’s not waterproof and there’s no container to make that happen, like it was the case for the one of the 2nd generation. At the end of your video, I was thinking maybe he has a GoPro and we’ll see the stabilisation difference, when you walk along the curb, between a mechanical and electronic system :-)
Hello. I recorded video of my city and festival. I need a camera that i can record video about 1:30 hour. Between insta360 ace pro and pocket3 which one is better for me??
I took a look at some of your Valencia videos. You are doing a lot of handheld scenes and handheld night scenes. I think you should consider the Osmo Pocket 3 as a better choice than any of the current action cameras. The Pocket 3 is going to give you much better low light / night time video quality than any camera without a gimbal that relies on software stabilization. You will get more than 90 minutes of 4K recording with a Pocket 3 under normal conditions. Hope this helps
This was a nice review and the Osmo 3 looks like pretty sweet gear. I have a mini 4 pro and I love it. It is kind of hard to imagine though that there are enough vloggers out there with $519 to lay out for a dedicated (basic) piece of vlogging equipment. The whole time I was watching your video and thinking to myself whether I would want to make a purchase, the mere fact that I don't vlog put me at the same conclusion. When I considered whether I would want to spend the money just to entertain the notion of "starting" to vlog, I reached the same conclusion. Best regards to all of the burgeoning vloggers out there. Apparently DJI is going to the bank with it.
I can't speak to the demand from bloggers for the Pocket 3 or the sales figures for it, only that it has been back ordered in the US since launch by a few weeks. That is unusual for DJI to not anticipate launch demand for one of their products so it may be selling better than they expected.
@@ThisIsJulianC DJI is onto some kind of strategy. The DJI Ronin 4D-8K (basic) coming in at $13,000 is equally perplexing. Who's using that kind of gear?
Check out the 4L tomtoc Compact EDC Sling Bag. Fits the pocket 3 in its hard case, an extendable selfie stick, tripod, filters, mic 2 and some other knickknacks. Cheap and good.
@@ThisIsJulianC Yeah I just don't think anybody can pause or "Hold" their recordings on the pocket 3 at this time' we will all have to wait for updates to be added by DJI hopefully it will happen very soon! "You had this feature on the pocket 2 but for some strange reason its not on the pocket 3!
Thanks. This was all shot full auto default settings, and in normal not dlog. Since that video I have lowed sharpness, and set EV to -0.3 as my general settings.
Ah perfect thank you very much for your reply that’s exactly the settings I’m on I think ev-0.3 and minus two levels on sharpness your footage looks that good on default I was wondering if i should of changed it from default But if you did in the end these alterations must be just right cheers ^^
Julian thanks for a well made, concise informative video review, i’m definitely thinking of purchasing one of these. I do have other DJI products and I was wondering if the pocket 3 can be operated from the DJI MIMO app and if so this may help you to get your time lapse recordings. You’re from my neck of the woods btw. 🍃🌊😎
Thanks! You can use MIMO with Pocket 3 and it connects wirelessly too. You got me excited about a timer start function on MIMO so I took a look this morning but don't see any options for it. If I find it I'll let you know. If you find it please share!
@@ThisIsJulianC I used it by accident. I've told many this, just be wary of all the fancy settings youtubers tell us about, (not you) as lots of hardware and software struggle to work with it.
This is such a good video.👏🏻 👏🏻 One of the best I've seen talking about the OP3. And I've watched a lot of them!😂 I'm still not sure if it will be a little to fragile for me to use for travel vlogs. Maybe the Action 4 would be better. Currently using a GoPro but looking for an upgrade.
Thanks! Watching some of your videos I think the Pocket 3 is going to need too much attention to taking care of as you travel. Defo when compared to a GoPro. Which GoPro are you currently using? My preference for your scenario would be Hero 12. I do not have any hands-on of the Action 4, the ability to use the Wireless Mic 2 directly with the Action 4 however is a major benefit compared to GoPro right now.
Thats what I'm worried about with the OP3. I have the GoPro 10. I did have the original Osmo Action but it got injured in the line of duty and my only option at the time was a gopro. Yes the dji mic 2 is very appealing. I just liked the idea of one portable camera that could do it all...vlog and get decent B roll shots. I'm not in a rush for it anyway as I'm not travelling for a while. Thanks for taking the time to watch some videos and reply.👍🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😊
Hero 11 and Hero 12 have a better sensor than Hero 10 but if I currently had a Hero 10 I wouldn't see an urgent need to upgrade, it's still a very capable camera.
I'm heading to Italy for the first time this summer. I am REALLY STRUGGLING trying to decide if I should just take this or my Sony A74 with lenses 24-70, 70-200, 24mm, etc. If I DON'T take my Sony, I know I am going to complain and say "man I wish I had my Sony". Then I think, so what, I take some amazing photos and videos with my Sony, to do what, post on Instagram? I'm just thinking out loud here. With the Pocket 3, I wonder if I will feel "more in the moment" as there is no viewfinder. I'd love some feedback from others. What would you do? Ugh. GREAT REVIEW.
Tough one. My thoughts - I would take both and maybe limit the lens selection for the Sony. I now use the Pocket 3 for video, and my Sony (A7CR) for photos when traveling. The Pocket 3 isn’t really a photography camera, it is a 1 inch 9.4MP sensor, so no 24MP images here. It will shoot RAW however. Others can chime in too, but that would be my 2 cents.
Love how you have the wrist lanyard attached . The hero 11 on an auto setting is possibly a stronger camera but more xomplex to the dji One think ive noticed with your camera is the shrunken head at a metre. Its just wrong visually . Thanks for review
Very useful tutorial, thanks. Someone should explain that though DJI says the pocket 3 has a 1 inch sensor it is NOT really a "1 inch" sensor in the literal sense but is only 13.8 mm x 7.8 mm in length and width respectively and thus has a diagonal of 15.86 mm (resulting in a crop factor of 2.728 compared to a full frame camera sensor), thus NOT "1 inch" which would be 25.4 mm ! I guess MOST people do NOT know that and thus are a kind of "left in the dark".
That is correct but is not specific to DJI or their Pocket 3, all manufacturers sensors that are claimed to be 1 inch do not measure 1 inch in any direction even diagonal. It’s a legacy marketing description that goes way back before digital camera sensors.
I am sure there is a cover that can be attached but thats already too much admin for me when I can just reach for the GoPro instead. The Pocket 3 is not rain proof but I know people that have used them in the rain with no problems, its not something I will do however.
Hey Julian, thanks for the insightful review. Just got one of these last month and heading to London and Athens with it. The color of blue in your jacket shows up well in the videos, what brand is that?
Interesting point about your GoPro doing a better job to eliminate the bobbing effect you get when walking due to its EIS vs the gimbal on the Pocket 3. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks. You will still see head bobbing but it is less obvious with a software driven stabilization. Overall image quality and low light performance however are better on the Pocket 3.
Fantastic, you are going to love it! I got the black mist filter after my UK trip, still need to test it out. If you have any cityscape night shooting planned it might be worth adding to your bag :-)
@kevin, Amazon sells tempered glass for both lenses as you have to take it out the protective case to use it. The tempered glass should protect it while in your fanny pack or if you accidentally drop it.
Great video. You are one of the few people that I have encountered who has posted video from a Pocket 3 that is correctly exposed. I see so much overexposed footage. I have been reducing the exposure by -0.7 EV. Have you done something similar?
Thanks. I now have the exposure comp at -0.3 which looks like a good compromise to me. Other than that its set at standard colors, auto exposure and ISO range limited to 50-6400.
The only risk is potential overheating when shooting for extended periods. I have not tested it for this but checking with the community; assuming a full battery and a large enough memory card, shooting at 4K/24fps all other settings on default, people shooting outside report no overheating issues. There are some examples of overheating at 30 minutes but I do not know the details behind what they were doing, whether indoors faster frame rates etc. The battery will last much longer than 45 minutes when fully charged.
Sorry to hear that. Did you have the DJI refresh program? To quote their own words - "DJI will replace your product if an accident occurs whether it's from water damage, collision, or any other reason."
I don't believe DJI was looking to achieve a field of view to match a phone's wide angle lens. However, if the wide angle adapter's field of view was a lot wider, and DJI was able to reduce distortion with software & processing power (like an iPhone) then I would perhaps use it more.
Been using the P3 for about a month and a half and i am just having so much fun with this camera. DJI knocked it out of the park with the P3 and Action 4.

Excellent review Julian. I’ve watched a few videos on the Pocket 3 and this is the best. I’m looking at buying one as I currently have a Dji Mini 2 and Dji in my opinion regarding drones are like Apple, and now they’ve made this. Thank you
Thanks… glad it was helpful. DJI continue to build their fan base, I am definitely one of them now.
Thanks, it's a great video taking my pocket 3 to France at the end of March to walk the Camino France. This was helpful
Happy that the video helped - have fun in France!
Subscribed, Hands down one of the best review on DJI Pocket 3, without any nonsense!!
Glad you liked it!
Great video. Very informative and I love the way you talk: I guess it feels genuine and comforting? idk. Thanks!
Awesome... thank you!
😊
Thanks… glad you liked it!
I've found the DJI Mic 2 was slightly quiet with the Pocket 3 but, since the latest update it sounds great as it should.
I have recently reduced the gain for the wireless mic 2 to -1, I found it was bumping too high at the default setting.
Cracking content Julian and a most enjoyable watch. Subscribed and about to place an order for the Osmo 3 Combo.
Thanks... glad you enjoyed it!
Would have liked to have seen the photo ability... and the noise canceling feature on the Mic2 when it was windy.
I have it too for my vlogs. And I can’t put it down. It is becoming my primary camera since i can take it anywhere!!! So as the quality ❤
Fantastic!
Thanks Julian - a very informative presentation of DJI Pocket 3 - I just went online and bought one.
Thanks for the feedback - glad it helped 👍👍
I use my P3 in my photo studio, to film Photography courses Online videos. Perfect !
That is awesome! I might film a studio based video sometime soon just to compare with what I use today. Do you make use of the tracking?
Wow! That view and that audio! That mic is holding up great!
Got mine too a week ago. Im still figuring out how to use it. Thanks for more info. Additional to my knowledge. Goodluck to your channel . ❤❤
Thanks... It's a fun camera to use for vlogging.
Hey Julian, what camera did you use to record your studio parts when you were talking? I like how when you showed the mic, the background went blurry and the camera focus on the object up close.
Sony A7C
Great video! Thanks. I’m currently very tempted by this little camera.
Glad it helped 👍
Would this camera be suitable to shoot my sons soccer games? zooming in and out?
I do not think this would be a good choice, the zoom capability is all digital, and the zoom range is not very long. So if you are standing by the edge of the pitch it's not going to do much.
thanks. What device would you recommend? at the moment, my iphone 14 aint doing the job @@ThisIsJulianC
You did a fantastic job covering this pocket camera
Thanks!
Is the image quality much nicer than gopro?
Specific to image quality - yes much better. Biggest gains are in low light where the image is stabilized much better than a GoPro.
Nice video but you said the word I dread -- "game changer" :-) You are the first person to say 32 bit float. THANK YOU!!!! That was my question.
You are welcome! 👍
You can add software based stabilization in post if you need to.
It doesn't bother me enough to do that but it can be done.
If I only have money for one action camera, would you recommend DJI Osmo 4 or DJI Osmo Pocket 3? Thank you.
Osmo Pocket 3 is not an action camera, its lack of weatherproofing and more 'delicate' gimbal explain that. DJI Osmo Action 4 is a very capable action camera with excellent optics, if you had to choose one camera as an action camera out of the two you list that would be the one.
Great video. Informative. Well edited. Interesting and considered. Nice work sir.
Thanks... appreciate it
I bought this camera with great expectations.
Lots of great info and examples. Thanks!
You are welcome 👍
Dude, you have to use the hard case if you’re throwing it in your pocket. The hard case also easily protects the wide angle while mounted.
I realize I am likely in a party-of-one that’s not using the hard case.
@@JoeSzilagyGlad its not just me then 🙂
Thanks for the info, I have the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo Kit also, I am just starting to explore with it, I plan to travel by train to New York for 5 days and want to capture our entire trip.
Haven’t found that, good that you mention it. Is that when tracking you or when tracking an object?
Great video! And You’re a good Dad!
Subscribed. Hands down - AWESOME review. Thank you!
Awesome, thank you!
Just ordered mine today, you’ve a great channel and this video brought me to it! As a fellow smaller UA-camr, here’s to a big year in2024 and you’ll do great
Thanks... same for you
Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭 Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
… that sounds like a great follow up video idea (it’s in the works 😁 👍)
Last time I checked there is a water proof case, but it is rather extreme, even for diving and such
fantastic video, thank you! Did you notice any issue with overheating, when filming for longer periods?
No, none at all.
@@ThisIsJulianC thanks for the feedback. the order is out :)
Can you flip to selfie mode while it’s recording or do you have to stop recording.
You can flip while recording.
Great video Julian. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Who's using that kind of gear?
do you use AWB or manual whitebalance of manual do you think 5600 kelvin does it for the most??
This was all shot in AWB. If I was using this outdoors with manual WB then 5600 would be my choice, then drop it down when heading inside.
@@ThisIsJulianC thx 😀
Check out the 4L tomtoc Compact EDC Sling Bag. Fits the pocket 3 in its hard case, an extendable selfie stick, tripod, filters, mic 2 and some other knickknacks. Cheap and good.
I’ll check it out but I am still enjoying my Peak Design 6L sling
Nice to see you on the Tubes Julian👍🏻🖐️

can i know what memory card you used for this, already got a creator combo, cannot decide which SD card to use
Hi - I am using this one: amzn.to/3uiuW71
Can you use it for video conferencing?
It can be used as a webcam - USBC connection to a laptop. If that’s what you are thinking then yes it can.
I also don't use the hard case! I only transport it in its soft case. Great video, you've given me some inspiration on how to use my pocket 3.
Thanks… I am happy it was inspiring!
Where is the pause when recording on the Pocket 3 ?
You mean pause to stop recording?
@@ThisIsJulianC Yeah I just don't think anybody can pause or "Hold" their recordings on the pocket 3 at this time' we will all have to wait for updates to be added by DJI hopefully it will happen very soon! "You had this feature on the pocket 2 but for some strange reason its not on the pocket 3!
Lovely footage what are your settings did you change the exposure or sharpness settings ? And did you shoot in d log or normal ?
Thanks. This was all shot full auto default settings, and in normal not dlog. Since that video I have lowed sharpness, and set EV to -0.3 as my general settings.
Ah perfect thank you very much for your reply that’s exactly the settings I’m on I think ev-0.3 and minus two levels on sharpness your footage looks that good on default I was wondering if i should of changed it from default
But if you did in the end these alterations must be just right cheers ^^

Julian thanks for a well made, concise informative video review, i’m definitely thinking of purchasing one of these. I do have other DJI products and I was wondering if the pocket 3 can be operated from the DJI MIMO app and if so this may help you to get your time lapse recordings. You’re from my neck of the woods btw. 🍃🌊😎
Thanks! You can use MIMO with Pocket 3 and it connects wirelessly too. You got me excited about a timer start function on MIMO so I took a look this morning but don't see any options for it. If I find it I'll let you know. If you find it please share!
@@ThisIsJulianC I will, and thanks for the reply. BTW i’ve placed an order for the creator combo. 🥴
Hdr video?
Pocket 3 supports 10-bit HLG video recording, HLG is the only mode that'll give you HDR straight out of camera.
@@ThisIsJulianC ah, didn't know that. Had my osmo a few months now lol
@@Life_of_John .... I cant speak to how good it is, I generally don't use HDR on any cameras. If you try it out let me know what you think.
@@ThisIsJulianC I used it by accident. I've told many this, just be wary of all the fancy settings youtubers tell us about, (not you) as lots of hardware and software struggle to work with it.
Just purchased mine 2/3 and in 17 days the price has jumped by $200…I guess I got mine at the right time
Wow... yes looks like you did
This is such a good video.👏🏻 👏🏻 One of the best I've seen talking about the OP3. And I've watched a lot of them!😂
I'm still not sure if it will be a little to fragile for me to use for travel vlogs.
The hero 11 on an auto setting is possibly a stronger camera but more xomplex to the dji
One think ive noticed with your camera is the shrunken head at a metre. Its just wrong visually .
Thanks for review
Always use the lanyard :-)
Great review! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
That mic is amazing...
Superb upload..thanks..👍🏻
Thanks!
Great video. I just picked up the Pocket 3 and hope to use it for travel videos. You should have way more subscribers, btw!
Thanks! Every subscriber greatly appreciated :-)
You are going to have a lot of fun with the Pocket 3 for traveling.
Nice review and good explanation of everything I needed to know. Keep it up!
Thanks, glad it helped you!
Great Video Julian. I enjoyed it,
Awesome, thank you!
I thought you could use it in the rain .that's not great if you can't. There's a a cover for the pocket 3 I'm sure
I am sure there is a cover that can be attached but thats already too much admin for me when I can just reach for the GoPro instead. The Pocket 3 is not rain proof but I know people that have used them in the rain with no problems, its not something I will do however.
Loving your videos! Thank you
Thanks...glad you like them!
Great vlog. Did you upload directly from the Pocket 3 micro sd card to UA-cam or there was some specific settings/software?
Thanks. Yes correct, I remove the microSD card and download the footage directly for editing.
Hey Julian, thanks for the insightful review. Just got one of these last month and heading to London and Athens with it. The color of blue in your jacket shows up well in the videos, what brand is that?
It’s a Mountain Hardwear Down Jacket. Have fun in London & Athens 👍
Did you ever feel the need for 2 mics?
No, not for the situations I am using the Pocket 3 for.
Excellent video! Really concise. I have a pocket 3 and I'm still getting used to it.
Glad it was helpful - the more I shoot with it the more I love it
Awesome video. Thx 😊
I pick up my pocket 3 Friday for my trip to Asia.
Fantastic, you are going to love it! I got the black mist filter after my UK trip, still need to test it out. If you have any cityscape night shooting planned it might be worth adding to your bag :-)
Great suggestion. Does the creator bundle come with a hard protective case for the camera. I’ll keep it in my small fanny pack for easy access.
@@kevinmckinney Yes, mine came with the hard case, I should start to use it…
@kevin, Amazon sells tempered glass for both lenses as you have to take it out the protective case to use it. The tempered glass should protect it while in your fanny pack or if you accidentally drop it.
@@AccordingToRobinFYI, the tempered glass on the lens will prevent any filter lens to stick.
Good video!
Thanks!
The wireless mic audio seriously lacks hi frequencies even in the voice frequencies.
I did not put much focus on mic placement, much of the time it is stuck under my jacket collar.
Just love the pocket 3
can i do a 45 min video with this
The only risk is potential overheating when shooting for extended periods.
The battery will last much longer than 45 minutes when fully charged.
like it. unusual sharing-
Thanks 👍
I’m so used to having everything on the iPhone 15 pro max.
👍
Mine lasted less than 24 hours thanks to some water splashes reaching the gimbal area: 😡. Besides that, a great camera. Stefano
Sorry to hear that. Did you have the DJI refresh program? To quote their own words - "DJI will replace your product if an accident occurs whether it's from water damage, collision, or any other reason."
Apparently that program doesn’t apply outside the US
The lens should've been a wider angle than the Pcket 2. When compared to the iPhone 15 Pro in wide-angle mode, this device doesn't compete.
I don't believe DJI was looking to achieve a field of view to match a phone's wide angle lens. However, if the wide angle adapter's field of view was a lot wider, and DJI was able to reduce distortion with software & processing power (like an iPhone) then I would perhaps use it more.
thanks for the review
No problem!
