Got that exact combination, D800E, Grip and 70-200 2.6 VR2.
May I just add this: With the Grip and put the camera in DX mode, it will give you 15MP, but no ordinary 15MP, because NO AA FILTER.
AND: Then you will get a nice 6 fps - I use this for photographing surfers at our local beaches - works a treat. You just can't do the same amount of cropping as FX, but still FANTASTIC!

Gr8 review mate. I love your laid back style, honesty and amicable nature. Power to ya and your parents that raised you! I researched lenses quite a bit and have recently upgraded my old D90 of 4 years to a D7100 with a 18-140 3.5-5.6. Love the 7100. I found a guy selling a new 24-70 2.8 for 1500 so I grabbed that (anticipating finding a spare 3K as soon as I can and getting a D800E). I put off going to full frame due to D600 problems and then when comparing 600/610 to D7100 I found little advantage so chose to save up for D800E. That 24-70 is a sweet lense. Zoom ring is a bit different to the cheap kit lenses I used b4 and now, but it is so sharp and fast. Thank you for your informative video and keep being a happy free soul treading your own path! Cheers Wayne.

Excellent job. Very informative review. You have gone into D800E features that others have not. Your point about not needing more than the 4fps is exactly right. that is exactly my argument.

Oh well, you're review of the D800E is the last review I watched because you pretty much sealed the deal. Earlier this morning (well, since I kinda live on the other side of the globe) I purchased a D800E and never looked back. I purchased a Nikon 24-70 F2.8, the 85 F/1.4G, and an old school Nikkor 50 F/1.2. Sad thing is that I'll have to cut back on food a bit and work alot more, but its worth more than every penny I spent and work that is probably gonna drain me. Thanks bro :D

Thank You, I am just starting out with Full Frame and I thought a older FX dslr body would be more economical to buy versus shelling out $2500. Up Front. Buying a used D800e might be a way to get around the Full Frame Price Tag on a Newer Model!

Thanks man! Its a great camera. Be sure to use the 14-24mm, 24-70mm, and the 24mm 1.4G ED prime. Those are best with the D800E. Also if you decide to grab one please support the channel and use the links in the info box above.

I came from a sony a850 background. I now own a d800.... paired with good glass this beast can produce some amazing RAW files with so much tonal detail you can literally change the hour of the day in post, without any noise punishment....
most people will judge a camera from portraits and more or less subject oriented shoots. Try shooting a forest with a d800 and ANY OTHER dslr... and look for the individual leaves....

Well, just being honest, please don't bash me *I'm scared shitless for saying this* you look like someone who's either on drugs, a rockstar, a skater, but not looking like someone inclined to photography at all. However you are very informative and you sound like someone who not only knows what you're talking about, but you actually sound like you're like one of those who are a friend that you'd really look for to hang out with.

Corey thanks for a great review. I agree D800/e are the the best DSLR for the money today. 4 fps is fast enough unless covering crazy fast movement like Nascar or Downhill ski racing. If you need to spray and pray you don't have the skills to own a camera at this level anyway. Crazy dynamic range and color bit is beautiful. You can choose 36mb, 20mb or 9mb for those crying about file sizes. And for those crying foul about ISO, Google D800 night photography or star photography and tell me this isn't gorgeous. Practically medium format for under $3k

    • @pradipta03

Do you won one? In that case I will want to know what will be the difference between D800 and D610? In terms of image quality and ISO mainly...? If pictures are taken in 20mp does the noise increase or it has nothing to do with that relation? Thanks in advance.

Tokina 16-28 is a great lens. The Nikon 14-24 is a better tho. Better build, better AF and optically slightly better with Nano coating. The 24-70 will get you most wide angle shots that you need but there is those times where a 14-24 will save you. Big wedding party or family photos in a small space is one of them.

I had read somewhere that the D800E since it is minus that little filter will give you a tad sharper image in photo mode but it does something when filing video that the D610 does better. I don't know how to explain it. Let me commend you on your FANTASTIC reviews of the D610 in the New York night setting and the 800E in this video. Great informative reviews. :-)

Great review, thank You so much. I just aquired a new to me D800 and am learning. However if I may suggest this: keep the review to the camera in question solely, in this case the D800 and not the D800E. I i had the dole for D800E I would look for reviews on that camera.
But while on the subject of that "other" more expensive camera, can the filter on the D800 be removed?

  • @hawg427

Cory, what about not being able to adjust the audio while filming? I guess you could always put any type of "Zoom" audio recorder and adjust the audio that way. Now when I was messing with my D800E it did not say 1080P it was telling me 1080i on video? I will probably give B&H one more try with the 800E. I guess it just had bad luck with the First Two I received.

I shoot 8-10 weddings a month on a D800E. No issues whatsoever. I am on a macbook retina. Just use the setting in the camera "Lossless Compressed". That will bring the file size from 75mb down to 45mb. No loss in RAW quality at all.
Buy the D800E, learn it, love it, and be happy with it. You will be glad you listened to us.
P.S please use the links provided in this video to Adorama, B&H or amazon whichever you prefer. To support our channel and efforts to keep the reviews coming.

Now you've got me drooling over a D800E from my other camera I was drooling over the D610. LOL Big difference between them? Your 610 review was great BTW. I'm an old school protographer that went to Daytona Beach Photo School for 2 yrs. Worked as a Pro for about 8 yrs. Long enough to collect a Nikon F2AS and a Hasselblad 500cm film camera. I just shoot for my pleasure now but was disappointed with the quality of my D-80 which has long bit the dust. Any suggestions? I would love to use the Nikon 14-24 I think it is. Great lens. Good video again.

You need to read about dynamic range. There is 14.7 useable stops with RAW shooting. I use this camera every single day. It has much more than 5-9 stops. For pete's sake 5-9 stops is below what a Nikon F2 would shoot. LOL

Also, @ a chopper (helicopter) show here in Australia last weekend, I spoke to a local Photog for the regional Mag and he was a solid Canon Shooter for the last 2 decades. He has recently dropped the 5D and all cannon for his D800. He wanted the D700 but all sold out so he went D800 and has had no problems. Swears by his D800. He said it is no good for sports stuff that was his only gripe. So a D7100 and a D800(E) is a killer combo!

Are you still impressed with the D800E or have you found issues that have changed your mind? I have a D5100 and I enjoy using it, but wanted a step up. The D600 and 610 seem to have lots of complaints. so this looks like a good choice, albeit expensive. Thanks Man. Enjoyed your video.

As a D3 user Im a little afraid going over to the D800E mainly because of file size. Im getting the D800E next week most probably. I have the 70-200 VRII and 28-70 2.8 and 16-35 f/4 VR and 500 f/4 all nikon. I presume these will be ok with the D800E. Im a little worried about the older 28-70? Have you heard about DNG from adobe? where you can convert your large files to around 20mb while keeping the pixel size? If so what do you think of this process? Also have you tried HDR? how would that go in photomatix or whatever HDR software is used with such big files? I also use macro retina but only 8 gig ram hope its fast enough. Great review.

@1:53 I think the sun just so happened to be in a spot that the lens hood can't really do its job well to prevent sun flare, Nikon lens hoods are kinda not so good, or the lens used in the video is either a bad batch... or something else. I uses my Canon DSLR the most, but I still can't deny how I admire Nikon's cameras for being so damn good. Then again, I'm shitty when it comes to their interface (my first DSLR was a Nikon) and I take more shots with Canon.

  • @hawg427

Hi Cory, Well I've gone through 2 800E's so far. Main problem is having the CF card pins being bent. My First one it came with a bent pin and they sent me another one no problem. I put my SD & CF card in. I was very careful with the CF card and I get an err message. I took at the CF card and my 800 had a bent pin on it. I then looked at the CF card and it had part of a broken off pin in it. For such a great camera the CF pins are way too weak and to me that is a deal killer. I can't have a camera and use Kit gloves with it, I don't abuse my Digital cameras like I did as a Pro with my Nikon F2AS cameras. Even my Blad is a tough camera.
I think I may have to go with the D610 or just go to the "Other Side" and get a full frame Canon like the Mark III. Any input?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention something since Adobe has this thing that's called DNG (I dunno if thats the name of the program/app) that adds an extra step in post processing photos (well, more like the new first step) that helps reduce the file size through mega pixels (I think) but the quality isn't compromised at all. Coupled with the lossless compressed of the D800E, have you tried it?

my sony a6000 has twice as many focus points and double the fps at a fraction of the price, ppl still falling for a brand name, oh and it probably has a sony sensor in it too, how ironic...

brazeers1 Yea same for me. You should never belive the hype about sony or other cameras like it. Canon and Nikon, Hasselblad and Pentax deliver the best quality.

A very expensive camera in the hands of a guy who's lacking a TOTAL sense on technical data.
    Video take is poor.
Don't let the wife do the video, please.
