I hate how he says that card counting isnt "technically cheating" as of its morally or logically cheating? Its playing the game and paying attention. In what universe can just looking and counting be considered cheating, especially when you dont use a device to do it.
Which is more funny because most casinos usually let you track winning numbers at other games tables to encourage people who dont know how stastics work to bleed money. But sit down at a black jack table and suddenly knowing the history of numbers in the game is banned.

Correct. Any purely mathematical function will be 100% deterministic. There has to be an _OUTSIDE_ source of uncertainty to make the function unpredictable. The best ways (radioactive decay) are not so simple to use, esp. on the scale of millions of slots. I'm told many slots today use internal clocks timed to the millisecond - not perfectly random, but without knowledge of the function and internal clock, it's difficult to predict, and _very_ difficult (but not impossible) to hit the button at exactly the right millisecond.
Of course, any modern casino will be overflowing with networked technology. Chips have RFID - basically the same sort of thing as your "tap to read" credit card.

Card counting in general isn't even frowned upon. All basic strategy players card count to a degree.
Card counting ruins the game for the majority of people though. Card counters are selfish honestly.
As someone who deals at a casino I can tell you for a fact we could stop all card counting if we wanted to. But it would come at the detriment of the majority of players.
All we have to do is use a 6 deck shoe and shuffle at the end of each hand. Boom. No more card counting. But now everyone else at the table has to wait between hands for the 6 deck to be reshuffled just incase someone is trying to count cards.

I love the Harris story. The one guy who's supposed to catch the casinos cheating their patrons finds casinos cheating, and nothing comes of it. So he starts rigging machines himself. Then gets greedy and stupid, and instantly hits a keno jackpot. He had to know that was virtually impossible, and he and his friend were going about this the wrong way in every conceivable way.

The only time I’ve ever been to a casino was with my family a number of years ago. I was up $173 dollars on horse racing and (mostly) blackjack. Between hands I looked at my chips then looked at my sister, looked at my dad and told the dealer I was done and I cashed out. Watched the rest of my family lose money for the next hour before we all left.

Anyway, I remember the entire poker room and tourney floor was a buzz with talk about it. There was even a couple announcements because they had to suspend play when it was quite deep in the tourney as well! I will never understand why he flushed the chips rather than just finding some random location and burying them. I do remember the story was a bit different and that he was under pressure and time when in his hotel room.

Trying to steal from the house has always been difficult and dangerous, but I'm always happy to hear that someone was successful in getting something off of a casino. Aside from the fact they carry insurance beyond anything any of us plebs could ever imagine, they get absolutely stupid amounts of money every single year and wind up paying little to no taxes at the state or federal level when they are owned by people who could afford to give the most and not even feel any pain from doing so.

  • @sicatrix_x

“The casino is rigged, why is it legal” “dealers are shitheads omg they are taught to make the house win” blah blah blah, don’t go to the fkn casino if you’re unhappy with it. It’s a privately owned property to which you are not promised to win but you may win a bit of cash. Now if you’re saying oh but gambling is glorified and targeted on the weak… whomp whomp, get a better job, get a hobby you’re either there to chase excitement or money if you have a gambling problem.
