2023 BMW iX1 xDrive 30 Review - Fancy Small Electric Crossover

  • The iX1 may be based on BMW's smallest crossover, the X1, which is based on the same platform as the MINI Countryman, yet it feels surprisingly grown-up and cosseting. Its exterior bears the marks of evolution compared to the model it replaces, yet its interior is a big step up in terms of design from what the model had before.
Its electric powertrain comprises two electric motors, one powering each axle, and together they give the iX1 athletic performance. The 64.7 kWh (usable capacity) battery provides a claimed WLTP range of up to 440 km, yet you will realistically get around 320 to 350 km on average if you don't try to drive especially efficiently.

I'm stuck between the EQB and the ix1? As you have reviewed it would be great to hear your thoughts on the family best car between these two?

If you don't need the third row of seats, I'd go for the BMW even if it offers slightly less range on paper. The real-world range difference is negligible and the iX1 drives so much nicer than the EQB, which feels wobbly and weird if you take a corner too quickly. I also prefer the BMW's interior, which feels higher quality.

Good review, thanks. To your last question MY is just too big to be a contender imo for someone looking for a compact versatile car.

It’s not available here yet, so I can’t say. It has just the front motor, which makes around 200 hp, so it’s going to be nowhere near as quick as the 30 model that I show in the video. I’d go for the extra performance of the dual-motor over the longer range of the single-motor version, but that’s just me 😁

75k OMG! It is not make sense!

Yeah, it is quite expensive, but it doesn’t feel like a cheap car and there are more affordable versions - this one is a fully-loaded example with the most powerful powertrain. Many governments also offer incentives that help bring the price down too.

@@OneTireFire i have live in korea and this car price over the government discount limit. It is 75k entery level electric car! In my opinion electric cars still overprice.

1)adaptive suspension is passive, it doesnt change harshness with driving modes
    2) weird but everybody is saying that the adaptive suspension is way unconfortable and too stiff, you say its comfy...

      1) I don't think so. What's your source? The press release clearly states the X1 and iX1 can be equipped with frequency-selectable dampers.
      2) This review is based on my empirical observations. I don't know/care what "everybody" is saying when I can just use my own experience. And maybe you're only referring to the M Sport model with 20-inch wheels, which is known to be uncomfortable.
Anyway, thank you for watching the video and taking the time to comment!

No, I believe this one came from the BMW Regensburg plant. I think it's made in China for other markets, but not for Europe.
