- [Hi-Fi Mono] From the eclectic music program helmed by the late Hal Willner, and hosted by David Sanborn. Ms. Bley and Mr. Swallow perform as a duet on this occasion. I consider myself very fortunate to have seen them perform together, once, many years ago :)
This was a great show for cool music. Possibly the only show where something as interesting and non commercial like this would be aired. Carla was the best!
Hard to believe this was on network television
I’ve listened to Jazz for most of my life, and you learn standards and hear similarities but then you hear things like this that are SO unique and mind bending. What a pair these two are whether they’re together or separate.
GENIUS.. REST IN PEACE CARLA BLEY
Gotta love these two. RIP Carla, and thanks for so much great music...
Could never decide which was more beautiful...Carla or her music . So unfathomably sad that some beauty passes , then inconceivably fortunate some beauty is eternal .
What a treasure this show was. And is...
R.I.P. Carla
She will be hugely missed
Carla Bley s'en est allée au vent mauvais de l'automne... Heureusement son jeu subtil restera toujours...❤
Though lacking some of his rhythmic elasticity, Bley's solo piano intro is pure Monk.
RIP dear Carla so great!!
Romantic Notions No.3 is the solo piano intro (piano pieces written for classical pianist Ursula Oppens), then they segue to Walking Batterie Woman
Thanks for that!
Thanks for posting this. I believe this dates from Fall 1989.
You're very welcome!!
Beautiful!
Love the Parker 5-string bass.
Beautiful.
my favorite Real life is in here!
so great combination.
Hal Willlner put together a Monk tribute album called 'That's the way i feel now', and Carla and her big band (including Johnny Griffin, Hiram Bullock, Steve Swallow, Kenny Kirkland) are featured on a rollicking version of Misterioso - ua-cam.com/video/Y26ew9x15Gs/v-deo.html. I think this album, found in a cut-out bin in the 80's, was my introduction to Carla and her various band formations. Thanks Hal and Carla for all the great music over the years
wow
RIP
