This patch was the reason I bought the sub 37 lol

The Sub 37 Editor looks more interesting and better than the Synth itself.

This plugin is one of the best I've heard.

Yeah, I was really surprised actually. Of course they'll always be _some_ shortcomings in software sound Analog-Modeling, but still. They both sound really good to be quite honest.

Just bought the Moog Grandmother, love it, it is the right synth for me and my interests and way of working, just absolutely love it unlike any synth or sampler I've ever bought. When I was buying it new, saw a used sub 37 come up at the same time for just about the same price. Really had to scratch my chin on that one. And your comparisons totally informed my decision, actually, your comparisons were dispositive, the GM was right for me. I suppose if the Sub 37 was new, sameish price, I'd have snatched it up, regretfully, like I would have had to. But I really wanted the Gma! But 2x, that sub 37 really is a paragon of a bass synth! Love that one osc glide, absolutely brilliant capability. I think Moog really smashed the 37 out of the park, and for a reasonable price too! At the end of this Golden Age of analog, the 37 is going to be one of those synths that stick around, are sold and bought again and again as the price rises, serviced and repaired, and bought and sold, just always sought after. And if you're a dance producer and you're into the analog sound, I can't think of a better monosynth, the 37 is designed to give a really technical, on point, rock solid sound with maximum impact required for dance tracks. If the 37 were a car, it'd be a Ferrari, imo. Very powerful, but very controlled, very technical, very balanced, perfect power bands. The Grandmother, on the other hand, would be a Lamborghini, too powerful, unbalanced, unbridled, out of control.
Sorry to go on, as I'm extending this metaphor in my head, the Grandmother is designed really intelligently though. As you use it, perform on it, you can see how thought out it was. It wasn't, like, feature stuffed. It has just the right capabilities, it is finely tuned to play. I'd contrast this with a Behringer clone, where things aren't thought out. Features are included, but they're hamstrung because of a thoughtless implementation. Behringer's V2's and V3's are going to be really competent synths, I hope. I think they'll learn the craft of synth building, beyond the simple technicalities (which aren't so simple, but are by comparison to the real craft). But who ever the project manager was for the Grandmother, give that guy a raise, he landed a beauty of a synth. What sucks is the finer attributes, these subtle perfections don't show up on a spec sheet, they aren't revealed by a feature to feature comparison. It's only through programming and playing the GM that the cleverness of its design is revealed. Damn, I'm turning into a Moog fanboy, after lambasting their high prices, and Apple like brand price multiplier.

Thank you for looking at Rob Papens eXplore plugins! I think they are awesome, and don’t get the attention they deserve! As another commenter stated Blue 2 is an awesome synth and is still my favorite synth out of this set! I’m also a fan of Punch 2 as well! Once again, thank you for taking the time to make this, and I look forward to more content from your channel!

Cool! Thanks for the video! Pitty that you had the 'drift' in the playmode set to 'off' . This simulates the little analog drifting of the oscillators. My own MiniMoog was an example for the amount of drifting. But maybe you liked it better without :D. About the Sub37m Indeed this glide on different oscillators, interesting idea! The first time that I saw this feature in a synthesizer. Cool

For the ones that own B.I.T. I created 4 presets, inspired on this Singularity preset Starsky does mention:

Yeah good point. I’d been messing around with the settings and started recording with it off - which I never noticed until I saw this comment. A shame, but I hopefully it doesn’t do it a disservice - tbh I never realised as it was sounding so nice anyway ...it still sounds great!

    • @RobPapen

@@StarskyCarr No problem. The difference is not that huge. And as mentioned, the drifting amount I use is inspired on my old MiniMoog and maybe the Sub37 is tighter in tuning.
Good video and as shown, I also dived into this preset and created a few. Will do this also with SubBoomBass-2 because it is nice sound, this semi tuned 2nd oscillator.

Hi Rob, is there a chance you could port bit as auv3 for ios in future?

    • @RobPapen
      @RobPapen 4 роки тому +1

@@Cray23_Official Good question. With the latest SDK for VST this is possible. But then we need to adapt the user interface and also check if CPU wise an ios device is powerful enough. This last point I doubt a bit. Maybe for the iPAD Pro it would be possible. But for now, this is not really planned.

Get the whole package Starsky; you won't regret it. Blue 2 is amazing, but so are most of the synths, and his reverb can compete with anyones. It and the delay are incredibly programmable. The new XY Transfer is as good a filter manipulator as there is and Punch 2 is a great drum machine you could use over any other software drum machine.. Updates to the package come frequently too

Another commenter said it runs really light on CPU. I don't know if that is true, just a heads up. My production pc I built in 2009, with 4gb's of ram, lol, still work on it. My Native Instruments installation was messed up on my old OS, so never had access to Monark, but I'm on Win 7 now, I'd really like to try Monark, I just don't think it is worth the trouble of installing (and dl'ing) the Service Center, and all that content. The Service Center always sucked, always needed to be downloaded and updated before some little piece of software could be updated. Such a hassle, I don't really have time for all of that BS. Still would like to try Monark, though! Haha! All the best.

That singularity patch is a tweak of one of the factory patches. That makes sense because he tweaks it throughout the track. I just packed mine forca move so i can’t recall which patch but a keen ear will pick it out.

Just realised after reading Robs comment. I’d been setting up the sounds and playing with the settings prior to recording - just forgot to turn it back on - probably because it didn’t really matter in the end, it was working so well on the sound anyway. Cheers.
