Hey man, I just wanted to say thank you so much for your detailed info. I have learned so much from you and though I am a newbie, I think I can have success with some of your ideas. I hit the dollar store (gloves and mask on) and grabbed my storage containers, got my shammies and seeds, my larger storage containers and my nutrients. I am geared up and so exited, now I am watching my plants grow.....I am impatient lol!
I actually took advantage of the 2 month shelter in place and went nuts on amazon to begin this hydro journey. It kept me busy learning from all the expert you tubes like this one. I’m finding it’s still a learning process and you can make it as simple as you like or go whole hog. I’m in the middle somewhere lol.... thx for your videos!
Getting my first ever solo studio apartment tomorrow and i wanted to start a small garden for veggies, spices and such...your videos just convinced me that i can and very likely will enjoy it. Thank you so much sir.
No problem, I am glad it will help. Be patient and experiment. Every place has a different environment, lighting etc. You can do it! Enjoy and thanks for the kind words!
Mike, amazing video to tell what to do in a very quick way. I also admired the bird that you created a feeder to attract it. Amazing. It makes you relaxed to see it.
Thank you. Most of this has happened in the last few months. The important thing is people are sharing and learning how to grow some of their own food in an easy and inexpensive manner. The summers were fun last year! Have an awesome weekend and thanks again!
Just learning about this stuff as I would like to try it and Mike has shown me a very effective way to start with low cost. Another way for me to be frugal.
Thank you 🙏 by far the easiest system I’ve seen. I’ll have to look thru your videos to see the recipe for your nutrients and if they must be changed every so often. Loved the hummer.
I love the content! I am starting my hydroponics garden now. After building myself a greenhouse and it ran for a year I wanted to add some hydroponics onto a wall that’s just empty. A combination of some of your ideas and some other things I’ve seen plus things I have around the house means I get to do it for relatively cheap which is great!
This is super! If I had my life to do over again, this is something I'd do from t he get go. Since I don't, I'll do what I can with what time I have left, and enjoy it like nothing else! Ever since I stumbled onto hydroponics, and to your videos, I've been begging milk and juice jugs off of people. I got a one dollar pool noodle the other day, and I'm really looking forward to getting started. You've really inspired me to get going with this, and I'm very grateful for it. All I have left now is to get the fertilizer. I'm hoping I'll have the money at the beginning of next month in hopes that there will still be some time during this summer to grow a few things, or that I can continue growing things in my window through the fall, winter, and early spring. The Great Plains are a harsh environment for plants, but my dad used to manage to grow a pretty good garden out here, and most years had a lot of things for us to can, freeze and cook. I know it really cut down our grocery bill to a manageable size. I only wish he had have been willing to share with us. His garden was his decompression from a very stressful job though, and he wanted to be by himself out there. He used to tell other people that his garden was his country club and his gin and tonic. It was definitely a more wholesome way of getting through life, and we all benefited. Thanks for sharing what my father could not. I am sure that he'd be grateful, as am I.
That's an awesome story, thank you for sharing. If you email me at keepongrowin1@gmail.com, tell me you are Mamma Duck and I will send you a few free samples of fertilizer to experiment with the hydroponics. Each one makes 5 gallons of nutrients. Make sure you get the email right, there is no "g" at the end of growing.
I was just on Twitter found a comment that you left Dan Mace one of my favs and I agree with you 100% I love what you wrote your comment brought me here and I'm willing to smash and hit and Crush everything you just earned a new subscriber here with that one comment. Toronto Canada. Peace
Cool Joe, nice to meet you. Dan is awesome, let's make this world a better place. Gonna sub you too, you have only been on 6 months, you are off to a great start. Will check out your vids this weekend. Peace and love brother!
Hey Mike just wanted to say thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us, I been growing micros almost 2 years now and I put up a poly tunnel 3 years ago but due to health issues can't keep up with it so was looking for an easier solution, long story short watched a bunch of your vids and went shopping yesterday got some downspouts and ready to start building, thanks again!
Another well explained hydroponics set up! Just got my pool noodle delivered today. Got all the stuff you mentioned now and i am all set! One forward step towards self sustainability! Thanks Mike! for sharing your knowledge and experience on hydroponics and gardening!
Very helpful video. Thank you! I'm just now learning and collecting needed things to try hydro. @ about 1:45 there is a sweet hummingbird visiting the feeder behind you. Thanks for sharing the beautiful scenery.🌾🐦
Kay Dee That is such great news, makes it all worthwhile. Anytime you would like to share some pics, my email is Keepongrowin1@gmail.com. Thanks so much for watching.
I saw that little Hummingbird to the right enjoying himself 😉That bag has been lasting 5 years??? The nutrition was one of my worries, I figured that fertilizer for hydro plants would be a very expensive expense but if it lasts quite a while, then it's well worth it in my opinion. The pool noodles are fabulous! This was a very helpful video!
Thanks much. Yeah, it only takes 10 grams of Masterblend for 5 gallons of water. These downspouts and Kratky containers use very little and not much is lost to evaporation. It was a 25 lb bag, I think I paid about $50 for it. Have fun.
Nice video very informative,,,love the hummingbird at the feeder in the background...had a great relationship with an owl last hunting season, we hung out on several occasions.

@@KeepOnGrowin, I only thought I knew a bunch about growing microgreens, then I began watching your channel. By the way, I just tossed out the last of my rock-wool and will be using only pool noddles from now on. So damn simple and cheep too!

Yesterday I was searching for those net cups.. they are no where to be found except on Internet... I did however find a perfect substitute.. it is a small 3 inch stand they use to hold rebar off the ground. It’s perfect... anyway check it out.
Hey brother you got a great camera presents your voice is good we can understand everything nice and clear I don't know if it was planned but the interruption by the wife was perfect okay my question I probably haven't watched enough you probably answer it you're the second person I've seen doing this with no pumps no bubbles how is the air and the nutrients etc etc getting to the roots without the roots rotting how is it even getting to the moisture in the beginning
Dr Kratky figured out that as the watet evapoates small air roots grow in that void to absorb O2. No need to oxygenate the water. Never refill completely, always leave a gap.😎🌱🤘
Ammonia, is Nitrogen. Epsom salt is potassium. mix them for a good fertilizer. Or if you have saltpeter which is s potassium nitrate use that. ( for people that can't get Masterblend) For phosphorus I use eggshell in the bottom of the containers. You can use urine but I don't.
I had someone save me those red coffee containers. My first hydroponic attempt looked good! I sprouted some baby choi seeds in a zip bag. They even stayed green for a few weeks. But they didn't grow and eventually died off. It was maybe too cold back in February, or ph was a problem. For the growing season I'll use those containers to root cuttings. And I might try a hydroponic basil or lettuce while I'm at it!
Astrid Prescod Nice to meet you. That is a tough one. You are going to have to see if there are any hydroponic suppliers and try one of their hydroponic nutrient, I really couldn't say what is available.
Hey man! Really great videos. I have a project for Hydroponics and I needed a jumpstart... I'm gonna use your way to do it. But how do we grow it? please tell me in detail so I can submit it successfully
Looking for advise on Masterblend to Calcium Nitrate to Epsom salts ratio for growing leafy greens. Just came across your channel Mike. Thanks for your videos. You do a great job keeping it simple and affordable. I'll continue passing you along to others.
Hey Mike sorry if this was asked already I couldn’t find it in the comments, after the micro greens get bigger do you remove that little foam plug or just leave it in ? I’m wondering if you have to adjust that to make room for the larger stalk. Thanks
I'm wondering if I could grow hydroponically on my pond. Maybe use a 4x8 styrofoam slab- put holes in it and use the noodles to plant the seedlings. There are fish in the water to fertilize it. Do you think that might work? If not- why not?
It may work, I thought of doing that, but I was afraid it would blow away when I was gone. Some fish may eat the roots. Also no way to adjust the nitrate/nitrite levels. You could always try one small raft and see how it goes. That is how hydroponics started, they built floating islands out of reeds and put some soil on top of it to grow in.
@@KeepOnGrowin I was thinking I could put it in a corner by the dam and tie it off on 2 sides so it would be stable. Maybe put a weight on the outer corner thats away from land so no wind could catch and blow it upwards. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for your videos. By the way- this was the first I've seen of them. I'll take a look at others now.
No problem, thank you for watching. Stonework gets pretty expensive, especially when I was experimenting and failing a lot. Let me know if you have more questions.
Very helpful as I price out literally 100s of dollars worth of equipment. The pool noodle hack is brilliant. For your grows in down spouts, are there plants with roots too large for that?
Pool Noodles have saved me lots of money😎🖒🖒 Some plants are too large like chard, collards, tomatoes, etc. I move those to bigger containers ehen needed.
Not with the Kratky method. It is better if you can, but this is a scaled down version of hydroponics so anyone can grow. I usually just use fast growing leafy greens so I harvest before I worry about the pH getting out of whack or the water needing to be aerated. I don't even own a pH meter, lol.
I am new to grow hydroponic plants, and thanks for Mike to share so many valuable experiences and knowledge. However, I am confusion about how the plants can get oxygen from your static solution methods. It seems to me that a key requirement of your methods is to remain a significant portion of roots above the solution to obtain oxygen and let the submersed roots to get the nutrients. If all of the roots are submersed into the solution, then the plants should die from lack of oxygen. However, this was not mentioned in your videos.

Thank you for the inspiration! I love the hummingbird! So - can you explain why most hydroponic systems use a aerator - and you're not using one?
Dr Kratky figured out to leave an air gap at the top. Air roots absorb oxygen.
Thanks you've given me some great ideas.
Awesome! Have fun with it!
Thanks for sharing your experience. I can't find the stonewool so I was wondering what other kind of material I could use to grow my sprouts.
No problem, thank you for watching. Stonework gets pretty expensive, especially when I was experimenting and failing a lot. Let me know if you have more questions.
Pool noodle FTW!
😎🤘🌱
Very informative. TY for sharing.
Thanks bro!!😎👍🌱🌿
That smoothie looks soo good!. What does Mrs. VanDuzee use besides greens?
A little ginger, mint, squeeze of lemon and a few pieces of whatever fruit we have laying around or in the freezer.
Thanks for the video! Your methods would be hard to improve on!
May I ask where you are located?
Thanks much Marilyn! I am in Florida, south of Jacksonville.
Great video! Can you please explain if there is any need for adjusting pH and air bubbler? Thank you.
Not with the Kratky method. It is better if you can, but this is a scaled down version of hydroponics so anyone can grow. I usually just use fast growing leafy greens so I harvest before I worry about the pH getting out of whack or the water needing to be aerated. I don't even own a pH meter, lol.
Mike VanDuzee Great! I prefer simple method. Thanks foe the info!
Where do we find patience at the super market🤔 that's the only thing I'm missing from the list🤣
😂
I am new to grow hydroponic plants, and thanks for Mike to share so many valuable experiences and knowledge. However, I am confusion about how the plants can get oxygen from your static solution methods. It seems to me that a key requirement of your methods is to remain a significant portion of roots above the solution to obtain oxygen and let the submersed roots to get the nutrients. If all of the roots are submersed into the solution, then the plants should die from lack of oxygen. However, this was not mentioned in your videos.
I never fill the containerd all the way up. I keep them between 1/2 and 3/4 full. Thanks for watching my videos 😎🤘
Great intro. Only back of mind concern " will the amount of "plastic" used get into the food chain?"
Farmers use lots of plastic today. Most irrigation, nursery trays packaging etc is plastic.
