- I don't usually do unboxings but when the package is this pretty how could I not? This is NOT a review, I will post a full review once I have used them a bit. From the few swatched I did on film here they seem like a pretty decent quality for the price and the packaging is really gift-worthy.

On the box for the red, yellow, green, and blue sets, the Chinese character in the center says South, West, East and North. The creatures are mythical creatures that are associated with the four bearings, and their names are in the lower right corner. For the gray tone set, it says Center, and the lower right corner reads The Law of Heaven and Earth.

But man am I a sucker for fancy packaging. It wouldn't be particularly practical to keep a set of pencils split over four books like this, but it's darn pretty 😂

The struggle is real
How was it not practical honestly curious? Haven’t you ever seen any other set of colored pencils sets in this fashion? I know I have. Simple too because sometimes they’re already color coded.
I LOVE these pencils!!! I'm sitting here repeating that I do NOT need more colored pencils but these are a work of art in and of themselves!

Here's some quick google translate for those who don't have it on their phones. The main center symbols are directions Blue Turtle Dragon = North, White Tiger= West, Green Dragon = East, Red Bird = South, Black Crane = Middle, the Lower right-hand corner symbols vary but name the creatures. Yellow says "White Tiger, and Red says bird, except the "middle "Black Crane - it says "Way/Law of Heaven and Earth" 🐉🐢 And whoo boy are those boxes pretty pretty.

My first thought after I saw the boxes was 5 beautiful artworks to have on my wall for only $15 each, and "free" pencils. I could make a beautiful collage out of the pencils even if they're no good. LOL I was feeling really bummed out because I had a security breach today and had to close/replace my credit cards so now I'm happy it saved me a $75 impulse buy. "When life gives you lemons............" Although I could go buy a plain vanilla card to shop online with...….??? I'll wait for your ful review = so tempting.

These are gorgeous. Just ordered the 50set from AliExpress. Giving them to my young niece, her mom is originally from China, so she can translate. Plan to give them to her for Christmas. BTW, I almost bought the student grade by mistake, so others be aware.

The boxes look glorious 🥰, the animals make think of the 4 celestial beasts, the 4 representations of north, east, west and south(black turtoise, white tiger, red bird and blue dragon) plus the Chinese unicorn Qilin maybe. Though it's different animals of course :D And the boxes remind me of those Irojiten ones somehow
The last set is “the middle”
@@YoungfaceYH oh yeah, if it were the 4 celestial beasts and the Qilin, but there wouldn't be a green box then, because none of those is associated with green and the black one wouldn't be one with a crane on but with the black tortoise

After I got the large prismacolor colored pencil set, no other pencil sets tempt me anymore! XD But wow, the packaging and the pencils are very pretty.
Im the same way...After I got the full set of Prismas and Polycromos, and half set of Luminance and Derwent lightfast, I dont really crave colored pencils anymore...watercolors are a whole different story...no matter how many tubes and pans i get- I NEED MORE!!! LOL.
I have prismacolours (not the full set) and the full set of Polychromos. I’m debating whether to buy Lightfast and/or Luminance. Which are your fave and which do you recommend? 🤔

Harry at Art Gear Guide did a great review on these as well. He also said the packaging drew him in. I have been trying to justify buying them (I have so many pencils without proper lightfast ratings...uhg... but the packaging!!!...lol). Maybe for my home office desk. Yeah... that's it. I need a pretty set for that desk since it's out in a diff building behind our garage. . Yeah I'm always needing to color while I work (lol...not). Great review though. 👍

I’m thinking I could use these for artwork that I will sell prints for. That way it doesn’t matter about the lightfast aspect.

Linsay, it looks like the packaging was created where you could fold the top back underneath the pencils so you wouldn't have to take the plastic tray out. I look forward to the review!

Of course I don't NEED more pencils, "practical use" wise. I may put these on my wish list strictly for decorative purposes though. They not only look stunning, but would be a fun tactile experience too. I would have to pick them up occasionally just to feel the raised texture of the cover artworks as well as rolling the pencils inside just to admire the gold foil.
(I'm very "swatch dependent", so for sets that aren't individually numbered or named, I use a sharpie directly on the barrels or on stickers/masking tape to assign numbers to them for swatching purposes.)
Oh my - the presentation (as you said) is stunning! Here goes my 'want monster' again! You are killing me, my friend! I just received both my Paul Rubens Granulating Watercolor paint set (six colors) and the Super Vision dual color Watercolor set (ten paints) yesterday. I haven't even tried them yet. And I swore as the box(es) came in the door - "OK! I am DONE. NO more supplies!" . . . and here you are! This will be an exercise in restraint for me. I have a full set of Prismacolors as well as a full set of Polychromos and some extrea great pencils (like DerWent Chinese white,) to fill in where those sets are weak. But now I am looking . I look forward to your full review. I do believe I should be able to wait and not order them. You make it hard though. They do look awesome.

You’re right I wouldn’t be able to bring myself to use them more than the original swatching. I would need them to be open stock. Looks like they are encased in origami paper. That would make an amazing presentation gift or hostess gift.

Hi, Lindsay… I had to take the time to pull out my beloved Irojeten pencils and color a mandala to refresh my opinion about them. LOL… well… Although I didn’t remember how off center many of them are, I still enjoyed how the lead laid down color and blended together nicely and especially how well they blended with the final burnishing with Caron d’Ache bright stick blender which is perfection! I originally fell in love with their packaging but more importantly was the way they grouped similar tones and shades together making them perfect for mandala coloring because you could use any of the pencils together within a set or group and know that they would look great together. I keep mine in order in a 120 count pencil case as many of my sets are stored… the cute boxes are somewhere in a box in the basement because I couldn’t throw them away! LOL… thanks for sharing your impressions on this latest set of pencils with cute storage boxes… I like the way they grouped them into color families. I will look forward to your review because from the on-screen swatching,they didn’t seem very pigmented. Have a great day! 🙂

About 30 years ago, my inlaws went to England, and brought us a large folder assortment of Derwent colored pencils. We were impressed, but they were never too precious. Along with acrylics and some crayola crayon-style fabric color (totally wash safe and I have one shirt I did for them, as a keepsake. ) my kids used them all throughout school and numerous dining room table art sessions. I still have them! They’re doing well, but the plastic pocket they are standing in has become brittle. I was always glad we had them. I guess they didn’t get used up because I personally used oil pastels and watercolor paints.
That set you’ve got is a triumph-of packaging!

WOW 😳 THOSE ARE SOME BEAUTIFUL PENCILS!!!!! I'm like everyone else, I don't need more pencils, I don't need more pencils, BUT I want them!!
I don't have the sound up right now, but it looks like they go on fairly smoothly and without crumbling at all. Wish these people would sell the boxes, because they'd have a buyer in me. Now I think I'm going to make cute vinyl decals for some of my pencils so I can feel like I have a piece of this. But these pencils will need to wait in line behind the Derwent Inktense full set and the Albrecht Durer 36 set. Hope Amazon has the Phoenix's soon.

Lovely boxes and pencils. You could frame the fronts of the boxes. I too love beautiful packaging and beautiful colors. I got a set of 72 Nyoni pencils and loved the colors as some were very different than any other pencils I had. Then I had a chance to get a box of 120 with a whole lot more pretty pencils. :) I also have their 72 watercolors pencils that were not duplicates of the regular pencils which has happened. I love seeing your vlogs. Those colors are so pretty. I just love colors!!! Definitely a great present!
Wow interesting. I always thought the regular and watercolor pencils are the same range of colours (with some standard deviations due to the formula). I learn so much from the comments 😊

These are just one of the most gorgeous packaging in pencils I have ever seen. SO beautiful, perfect as a present to impress. I checked in the link and they are 70€ which is certainly not cheap but it is possible to save and get for Christmas.
Oh, I covet that box of yellows! (And the greens, to a lesser extent.). There are never enough yellows in most sets for my taste, so I really hope they sell those boxes individually.

I have the square pencils you reviewed a while ago in my amazon save for later basket as well as some oil pastels you recommended. The want monster is also after the complete set of Caran d'Ache Luminance pencils. I bought three white ones a few weeks ago and I have been using them ever since because they are so nice to use and I get the results I want.
Blick Art has a sale on the Luminace pencils. In got a 76/set for $193
I’m weighing up between getting Luminance or Lightfast but my pencil spending is getting out of control 😬

I love watching you get excited over a product like this, Lindsay! I've read the highlighted comments on the boxes descriptions, which are really sweet! That final box of pigments ... is it possible that's a portrait set? The pigments just made me think of other sets with skin tones that I've seen. 🤷🏼♀️ I would love to get these, but I will wait and hope for an Amazon listing. 😊

The art are part of some legends, associated with directions (NSEW + centre that was printed in the centre of the box). The names on the lower right are actually the name of the characters. Unfortunately i don’t really know much about the legend, only that they exist 😅

I bought these pencils, and am enjoying them. As for the beautiful boxes, as tempted as I am to keep them, I think I'll send them to my grandsons who know Chinese and study it in school. They enjoy art and will appreciate the die cut art on the front, they will love the dragon images.
