    This current test shot of the mannequin shows that you've come a huge way since your early videos! It's head and shoulders (pun intended!) above the old stuff.

    Note that all of these filters' strength & look will vary widely depending on what focal length lens you're using them with. The 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2 etc. system was actually developed so cinematographers could have a consistent look across different focal lengths! If you image search the confetti filter, you'll also see how it can look wildly different on a wide-angle lens as opposed to a tele lens. By the looks of this test, I'd guess you were using it with an 80-100mm.

    I have a fotga swing away matte box - swing away is definitely the way to go as a cinematographer. I wish mine had 3 slots and the ability to angle them though

    • @JustinPhillip

      The angle thing and the three tray is very unique to the Wooden Camera, BUT, no rotating trays 😞

    I've been wanting to try the True Streak 4mm filter on my Isco Ultra Star anamorphic. It has no flares but is a great looking lens. The True Streak might just do the job.

    Super interesting! I want to try out that confetti filter, just for fun. Do you have an opinion on the use of Polarization filters? Is it important for adding contrast in general, or is it more like something you use only in special circumstances, like shooting through glass?

    • @JustinPhillip
      @JustinPhillip  2 роки тому

      always when shooting thru a window or looking at reflective surfaces, but i also always tend to use polarizers outdoors

    do you have the same problem with the corners on wide lenses? the lens flare streaks are bending at my 16mm

    Thanks Justin. Which Digital Diffusion FX strength do you suggest for standard use. I believe you have the 1/2 there? I like the subtle looks of black pro-mist 1/8 so something comparable would be nice.

    • @JustinPhillip
      @JustinPhillip  5 років тому +1

      Paul Singh I think 1/2 or 1/4 is good. but if you like 1/8, i’d stick with that. For me 1/8 isn’t enough for any diffusion, but then again, every situation and preference is different. I’d say go with 1/4

    can u use a real person for hour subject? using a dummy doesnt give proper context when it comes to skin, especially when it comes to digital diffusion filters that smooth skin out.
    also, the neon light is distracting the effects that skin tones have.
