    my therapist told me it’s good news i have pdd instead of major depressive disorder. i felt so belittled until i found out that the main word is persistent. it is just as severe and don’t let anyone otherwise...

      Shitty therapist. PDD is harder to treat than MDD, both are absolutley horrible though.

      Especially when you can have episodes of both and have double depression

    One thing not discussed in this video is what I was recently diagnosed with: Atypical Major Depressive Disorder (or MDD with Atypical features). It essentially means your experiencing Major Depressive Disorder but you still have moments of mood reactivity like when something happy happens in your life that can temporarily give you a mood boost but you'll return to your depressive state once those moments pass. Other features of this include: Hypersomnia (sleeping over 10 hours a day), over eating, feeling like your body is heavy or leaden and most notably intense emotional distress to being abandoned, critiqued or rejected.

      That's a tough diagnosis. Good luck. MDD with Atypical features is MDD and was covered. All of the disorders covered in this video have individual variables not covered in this video.

    I am like 99% sure that I have Cyclothymia - BTW, does anybody else get easily affected by music, and like darker music on the lows and happier music on the highs?

      Yeah for sure

      99% sure of nothing - you equate listening to different kinds of music as some kind of doorway to "your depression" - I suggest reading information , or going to a mental health professional instead of talking out of your hole

      Yeah, music normally influences mood. I listen to unhappy music during any mood, so I'm a bit desensitized

    I know ADHD is on a different axis on the DSM... But I would love to see ADHD explained in the mix amongst all these. It would be really helpful for the public. Especially because there is such a high misdiagnosis btwn bipolar ii and ADHD.

    • @peggygenoway
      @peggygenoway 4 роки тому +1

      I am a psychotherapist. First of all, things are no linger diagnosed using an "Axis" and that changed years ago. Secondly, there isn't a high misdiagnosis rate, mistaking Bipolar II for ADHD. Compare the Diagnostic Criteria up in the DSM-5, instead of in your misinformed mind.

    • @shimonfrankel2422
      @shimonfrankel2422 Рік тому

      I have not seen these diagnoses mixed up. ADHD is an important diagnosis to understand, for sure, but it would be inappropriate to included in a short video on the Depressive Disorders such as this one.

    Thanks. I was just diagnosed with Bipolar 2. I don't really know if I was an overall happy kid or what. I remember being happy from age 5 to 8 but then I started to get somewhat depressed after that. I started to get more depressed, angry, etc. I even remember slamming a front door and seeing it break. Not sure if that even happened though. I felt insecure in school, unlovable most of my life. Unwanted. What's pissing me off now is the fact that people keep telling me who I am. Some girl from church said, "Who ever told you that you're unworthy?" I don't even think I felt that way but who knows. Then my sponsor just told me yesterday that no guy is ever going to like me if I am the crazy girl. So it's easier for me to pretend. I remember pretending to be happy on Christmas just to please my family...it worked well.

    I think I might have Cyclothymia.. But instead of constant swings it’s like a very watered down BP 2, with depression still worse than mania.

  • @rksilvally
    @rksilvally 3 роки тому +3

    important thing to note: individuals with bipolar 1 do not have to have depressive phases. mania lasting around a week or more is enough to qualify for a bipolar 1 diagnosis

    I thought I had MDD and idk why i had that in my head because it turns out my diagnosis is actually PDD and it makes sense. I’ve always said it feels like my baseline is just lower and my happy is other people’s sad. It’s confirmation that I truly have never been happy. I also have episodes of extreme depression that last for about a year

    I’ve literally been describing it like this for years! I’m glad someone put this all together. When I tried to explain this they misdiagnosed me and thought I was bipolar because I talked about ups and downs, but what I meant was that instead of the [normal] ups and downs revolving around the x-axis, it was in the negative range. I’m now diagnosed with PDD and it makes a lot more sense now.

    What needs to happen is the "normal" line needs to be revised. As long as the person's life is not disrupted, miserable, or their functioning or relationships impaired--use it as a creative zone. Stop turning everyone into a potential customer for pharmaceuticals.

    • @mr.mayonnaise5488
      @mr.mayonnaise5488 4 роки тому +5

      Peggy Genoway this doesn’t make sense. There has to be a baseline to compare everything to. You have to have a a control variable

    I went to my specialist I forgot their name but at first, I was diagnosed with depression but later on, they made a test on me and found out I have Dysthymia ever since I was a child just that it wasn't as strong as it was when I was on my pre-teens.
    To Be honest double depression is not bad until you get the really bad extreme depression along with panic anxiety .

    I think I have Cyclothymia because since 2021 I've been having Hypomanic symptoms and then just- depression. When i was younger a mostly experienced Hypomania but more recently I've been experiencing short periods of depression. I just thought I was depressed and my ADHD was being weird but i could have Cyclothymia and my Mum does have Bipolar II and it definitely would make sense for me or my siblings to have a mood disorder or be neurodivergent
    I'm still 99.99% sure i have Cyclothymia and at first I looked in to Bipolar and was like "OH GOD-" then I looked in to Cyclothymia and was like "Nvm- wait."
    But I've been very emotional the past 2 years and everyone is like "GeT oVeR iT yoUr fAkInG HaVInG ADHD aNd whAtEvER cRap YOu hAve FOr aTTEnTIOn" but... If I'm doing it for attention... WHERE'S THE ATTENTION??? 😃
    Anyways i honestly do think i could have Cyclothymia and i can't really explain everything but- yeahhhh..... 🙂

    What if I show the symptoms of cyclothymia but they don't interfere or disrupt day to day life?

    • @asmryag108
      @asmryag108 7 років тому +5

      TacticAl Cyclothymia has been referred to as a "stable instability". It can be less disruptive to daily life because the lows aren't as low and the highs aren't as high as bipolar 1 or 2, but that doesn't mean it has no effect on quality of life. If it isn't disruptive to you it may not be Cyclothymia or maybe you're just managing it well. If you're worried the best thing you could do is go talk to a licensed professional. If you have the disorder you can learn how best to deal with it now instead of when it is seriously impacting your life.

      If so I suggest you go to therapy. I might have bpd, or cyclothymia it sucks my moods always change but when the sadness hits I just want to die. It's been like this for 3 years and the depressed part for 6 years it sucks. Please if you think so go to a psychytrist & psychologist it helps or at least for me, kinda.

    except there is no average person and there is no average mood. ... and there is no bipolar suddenly when there was once only manic depression. Bipolar disorder as a term serves a pharmacological approach which while necessary is over complicated by an unspoken belief that at some point a drug will appear that will cure everyone suffering from the disorder and the industry sacrifices people who would likely have far better outcomes by not taking the very newest drugs that can have very upsetting if not dangerous long term side affects.
