Been playing guitar for almost 4 years... never had a "guitar hero" but I think I just found my guitar hero, Takanaka makes music that makes people feel joy and I want to do the same.
I only recent discovered Takanaka-san, he has rocketed up to number 1 in my favourite musical artists, and I listen to A LOT of music of all genres and time periods. Just sublime. The music I've been waiting all my life to hear.
I started this up thinking I was only going to listen to a few minutes to get a taste of it, Here I am almost done with the entire show and Takanaka is a machine on guitar. Every note is so soothing and always with the right timing. I listen and can't hear anything I don't like. Wanted to add props to the other musicians in this as well. Bassist, TWO Keyboardist, Back up Guitar and TWO PERCUSIONISTS all adding to the flavors. Such a well oiled machine
UA-cam was also to thank for me learning about him, though it was All of Me compilation album that was suggested…for like a freaking year until I finally clicked on it
Breaks his string at 14:05 - but makes it sound incredibly cool by letting the guitar naturally ring. I didn't even notice until I rewatched that part a couple of times, curious to why he did the shrugging motion :) So cool.
He shrugs like that to let the string fall away from the others, the fact he didn't lose a beat to it was proof of his experience and practice in music.
@@nevoyu for me it was that he had to hit the same note again a few seconds later and used a pinch harmonic off the cuff to get it. That’s not easy stuff, you gotta know which fret on which string is going to allow you to get the pitch you need, and then you have to know where to activate the harmonic with your picking hand to get it to ring out right. A couple millimeters either direction and you’ll just get the sound of a muted string. He did all that calculation on the spot and nailed it. That’s seriously impressive.
I love how these Japanese jazz fusion bands sound cheerful and happy and the music sounds like soundtrack for winning a race at Mario Kart (or any kind of achievement in a Japanese 90s video game)

I was amazed to find out the inhouse S.S.T (Sega Sound Team) band actually had Issei Noro of Casiopia as a guest in 89. Credited for "S.S.T. Band (Sega Sound Team) - Rush A Difficulty(Arrange Ver.)" There is a good interview (SEGA 60th anniversary interview with Hiro) where Sega composer Hiroshi Kawaguchi mentions he joined Sega hoping to work on music and found himself in programming until Yu Sazuki ask for his help in Hang-On, Hiro said that he "had been in an instrumental band as a hobby and had made copies of songs by people like Masayoshi Takanaka, Cassiopeia, and Naoya Matsuoka (the “leader” of Latin fusion music in Japan), and Yu had known that. Apparently he also knew that I had wanted to be on the sound team, so he offered that to me."
