Correct! This is the purpose of the forward tees. It's to even out your driving distance so the course plays more similarly. If you can only drive it 225yds and you're playing the tips you're going have a higher handicap... Not the systems fault.
Good show guys. I enjoy what you do and look forward to every edition. FYI: RM initials on the Wilson 1980s/1990s 8802 putter sole and several iron sets refers to club guru Robert Mendrella a long time Wilson Golf engineer and industrial designer.
Listening to this, I started laughing my ass off. I caddied for Duke Delcher for one round of the US Mid-Amateur qualifying at Hazeltine in 1994 when he had just gotten his amateur status back. What a great guy and man, could he play.
@kostismccord - is it true that you can't hit yourself while putting (one's foot, as Gary was demonstrating with that Skyway putter around the 30:36 mark)? Checked out that new rule, 11.1, and it seems to indicate that there is no penalty for accidentally hitting yourself with your putter when putting in golf....? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Backwards Peter - 12 hdcp who can't hit it far is really a scratch if they could hit it far - so take that player and pair with someone who can hit it far and the 12 hdcp gets it in the hole
Golf is a cheaters paradise sadly!here in northern Ireland we have only been using the whs system since it was rolled out, about 4 years ago, it's so open for anyone wishing to get a very high handicap in a very short time
Just do A,B,C,D Player and no HDCPs - silly string, Mulligans, inside 2 ft gimmes all that stuff needs to go. This is how folks are shooting 40 something. The HDCP is having a Great Player to a Hack that is enough. Also force teams to use a shot each side off the tee from each player.
Screw the Handicap system. Each golfer shld be honest about their ball speeds and play accordingly to the Tees. A,B,C and D flights.. no strokes just play🏌🏾🏌🏾🏌🏾and decide the outcome by pure stroke play!
Wait til you see Billy Bob😂😂😂😂. As far as the Handicap System, anything that relies on human integrity, is going to be gamed by the scammers(sandbaggers). I think the PCC is lame. I think how each hole is rated for handicap purposes is flawed. Every hole should be rated 1-18, and not odds and evens based on the front and back 9. Also, how accurate are the course and slope rated for the course. Are courses going to be required to get their course rated say one time every 3 years. And a course can play entirely different based on rough, and how wet/dry the course is. I am not sure there is a perfect system, when humans are involved
Scrambles? Of course you get ripped, if you played in one it's happened to you. Worse yet are these Pro-Am's where guys show up with bogus indexes, most of them are a joke, and nobody polices them. The USGA has done little to help. But good news, their new Handicap Review tool is out there, we'll see if it is put to use.
Golf is based on honor system so because of that, the handicap system will always be skewed because there will always be dishonorable people. Sandbaggers and cheaters will never go away.
How many guys do you know who give each other putts all the time, then come tournament or event time can’t score to save their souls? Their handicaps are a truckload too low because they hardly putt out a hole in their weekly rounds!
Scrambles really are a sham. What happens is that a group of modest players find out a private christian school having a fundraiser scramble at a closed country club. They have nothing to do with the school otherwise. They pay their $800 fpr their foursome, which they never would be able to play the country club any other way. Then, they go on to play with no witnesses and then forge a card with a winning score, then walk away with $1000 in gift cards and door prizes. Meanwhile me and my buddies, two of whom have kids at the school, go on with a modest round of 8 under and look at a four "outsiders" clean house.
The WHS makes playing a match using different tees easy. A short 12 vs a long 12? Those two shouldn't care, if one happens to have a great day putting or with the short game or on the approach or off the tee, and wins, good on them. That happens and having one skill 'locked down' doesn't increase the likelihood of another skill suddenly dropping you 8 shots below your established level of play. In fact, isn't it something like a 1 in 10,000 chance a player shoots 5 below their 'cap? Eight below? Maybe fewer than a hundred times a year across the USA among players who post every score! Moreover, to return to the long vs short theme, isn't that exactly the same as male vs female? Just play different tees! The WHS is so much simpler because there is no complicated math like there was in the old system -- you just put in the tees and the players and the match handicap is provided. This discussion was just dumb bar talk, guys.
I’m 80 years old and have moved to the “forward” tees. That evens the drive and puts the emphasis on the short game.

Always entertaining and informative 👍

I agree, a high handy cap player that can drive it longer than the same high handy cap isn’t fair

love you guys, but Pete you've got to take the cardboard stiffner out of your new hat, keep up the great vids
Oh…Your gonna bring up that honesty thing.
😂😂😂 Bingo
If I remember a few years ago an amateur at Pebble Beach on the winning team for the Pro-Am had a really unrealistic handicap do you recall that

Or they move forward to the tees they should be playing on and then they'll be scratch.

We need to stop trying to call a scramble a golf tournament.

They don't need to change the handicap system... If you can't hit your driver more that 200 yds you need to change... To the red tees.

A bit too much of an old school production. Just sit down and talk guys.
