I served 4 yrs in the Air Force. A buddy of mine spent 27 yrs there. He was gone a lot because of the war on terror and had marital problems because when he got back home there was friction. Being away for any reason causes stress. I told my friend that he had to understand that his wife had to live without him and when he got back he disrupted her regimen. He had to understand that it would take time to get back to living with one another. Thankfully they weathered the storm and are still married today.

Politics have become serious issues for the common person. I know people who have never been interested or involved in politics in any way but who have now been affected by what is going on politically. When you were asked "If your daughters asked you" -- Your answer was a true fathers answer, it is understood, and you earned a hell of a lot of respect from me personally as a father. Regarding money, i lived by 3 rules:
1.Use money as a lubricant, not as a fuel
2. Money is not my God
3.If i won't do the work for free i will not do it for money.

Family kept me from ever going back. I built a business while keeping family first and retired at 55.

(no regrets, no apologies, no excuses, no explanations, no justifications) People need to be aware of what's going on around them. Get them to take their heads out of the sand. Michael, I for my own thought is that you are so upfront and honest. As far as being in prison anyone who has done this time has paid their debt back to the community. You are hard on yourself, what you are doing now is great. You are blessed.
During my time in the military, Uncle Sam came first. However, we had benefits such as 30 days leave per year, paid medical and dental care, and (for those who did the full 20 years) a retirement pension. We also received job training, and assistance in finding a new job on the outside.
The mob never offered anything like that. It was a one-way street. You were expected to devote your life to them, but it didn't work both ways. When you got in trouble with the law, you were on your OWN. That's why it was such a raw deal. No wonder so many people became informants. Loyalty up depends on loyalty down.
I have turned down jobs that would have paid 15k to 20k more. I make good money, 11 miles from home and weekends off. I wanted to be home at a decent time and be with my family. That money i passed on can't replace my family time.
I love getting advice from you, Mr. Franzese. It's amazing to hear someone's opinion who has both plenty of life experience and who is also a devoted Christian. I promised my father before he passed that I would never drink, but I would love to buy a bottle of your wine to put on display, along with one of your books that I've already finished.

I appreciate the Mafia, the dedicated family part. The separation of knowing we're not all good guys, but civilians, women, and children are looked out for in our neighborhoods.
They modeled a type of government structure. And ironically, the same government that condemned them are capable of the same acts these days.
I'm the 10th youngest of 11 siblings my parents had. The typical big Italian family of the 50s,60's from Brooklyn.
I have many cousins, uncles in Brooklyn, Sheepshead Bay, Scranton, PA.
Although my father worked all his life at a regular job to provide and raise all of us, he wasn't part of the "Mafia", he did get to meet Carlo Gambino, he came home from work one night, I was about 12, and he was proud of meeting him and getting his autograph.
My parents were just middle-class, proud Americans, and proud of our Italian heritage.
I guess my father could've been involved, but instead, he worked his own business, put in 20+ yrs with Dietz oil in Farmingdale,N.Y. and put the family first.
Don't feel bad, Mr. Franzese, everyone knew what they signed up for.
99% of Italians that came here were just proud to call themselves Americans and helped build many things in our country with their hands.

Literally just went thru this. My brother in law chose his business over family. He got mad bc we chose not to move and work for him as planned and instead chose my Mom (dying of cancer) over the bakery. We had a huge fight and things got ugly quickly. It destroyed our friendship, and he had to close the bakery. My mom died six months later and then I took care of my Dad, lost my job, then my Dad died eight months later. We haven’t really spoken since. I was so mad that he didn’t seem to care of what I was going thru. Sometimes I regret not going but there was no way I could have. I lived the closest to my parents. Anyways it destroyed our relationship and I miss him now. But very hurt over his behavior. I respected him and trusted him, he’s a warrior for Christ and has been thru this. His wife was my BFF, and she died of cancer also.
I thought out of everybody he would understand and be there for me. But all he cared about was the bakery.

Mike, what has worked for me is having family work with me. I enjoy your videos. I came across you by accident. I am a musician and was asked to work in a praise band so I was you tubing jams praise band might play and one of your preaching videos popped up. I still work with the praise band and still follow mike. That was over 10 years ago.

Hi Michael, I enjoy watching you. I'm 65 now, grew up in Brooklyn, saw the mob guys all the time. It was normal to buy everything out of a trunk! I live in Dallas now with my family and we also found Jesus. Life is much more peaceful. I never got in trouble because I was afraid my Dad would kick my az!
